they are a scamming company whit good converters but poor drivers and firmware which means you cant work seriously mix and mastering whit out bugs latency and sync problems that disconnect the device from your computer whit no reason has for afx 2daw its pure scam that brings more latency to the game and in plus they have the native versions of the same plugins and wont give it to the afx2daw users that have been victims on the scam the only thing ok are the mic preamps

Antelope aftersale is non existent. If you have an issue, they will tell you to downgrade firmware and move on. If it doesn't work. They will tell you to downgrade even more. AFX2DAW is completely non functioning for WIndows users in most cases despite them charging 299 for it. On the ZenQ, there is an issue where most compressor plugins will stop working after a few moments and sometimes it produces a loud beep when the plugins fail as well. Still hasn't been fixed after more than a year. The hardware might be solid. But the software and the aftersales is anything but. Also don't confuse the realtime AFX which runs on the DSP with the regular AFX plugins which don't run on the DSP and you don't need any special interface for. When you buy one, you don't get the other.

It's 1 thing to say you agree with others saying that their support is "terrible" but you don't give any examples I'm sure just like any business charging out the behind for audio products (that are not expensive to make) there is some "shadyness" but at least stat your experience (albeit one sided) so I can judge based on that rather than, Source; trust me bro

@@Notinserviceij Not sure why my original reply was removed (or maybe it's just me who can't see it anymore?) but I can give you examples if you want. Coming from someone who generally loves their hardware but still wouldn't promote it to anyone. - All their firmware 'fixes' when you have an issue with firmware of an interface are (in order): downgrade firmware, reinstall firmware, reinstall downgraded firmware, reinstall your computer OS (even tho it's a hardware firmware issue), send device for repair but get the same device back but with firmware upgraded firmware which they told you to downgrade. After that, it's your fault or you get ghosted. -Their AFX2DAW on their USB interfaces are advertised to work and you are able to buy a license for it. But it will barely work. As in, mostly the software crashes the interface the moment you load the VST. -There are a lot of issues with their AFX plugins for years now and they haven't been fixed or even updated and most of it gets ignored. And this isn't just me. You'll find a lot of people having give up on their interfaces. Especially those who bought it specifically for the DSP processing. I still run Antelope because their routing is fantastically deep and complicated and they do sound good. But people have to know what they are getting into.

I used an Antelope for 2 pain staking years. The software was very buggy. I would turn on the phantom power and then go to turn it off, but it would show that it's still active, and it was. Sometimes, the software wouldn't pull up. Freezing up was an issue, and a few other things. The plug-ins were great. The routing was very easy. When it worked, it really worked. Unfortunately, the support service was terrible. They would get back with me but never could solve one issue. Oftentimes, i would have to start at square one every time someone got back with me because it was a different person who had no idea about the issue tickets i would send in. I bought mine for around 1500 dollars, i think, and they would never consider me returning the product because it didn't meet the "return policy " ( if they really had one). My troubles started just about a week of my purchase. I really hope it's a different story now a day's. And yes, i ran it on an IMac.

Q: How important is the interface to your DAW for guitar? Are the expensive ones worth it in general? I don't actually own a fancy/expensive standalone interface. I typically use my L6 Helix as an interface for DI into a DAW. I also have a nearly 10 YO Apogee JAM 96k which I use with macs, ipads, etc. In a pinch, I've even used my L6 Powercab+ 212 as a DI into Helix Native when my Helix Floor was being repaired (both the Helix Floor and Powercab+ have 1/4" iinput jacks and can digitize the signal and send it over USB to you PC/MAC). They all sounded fine to me. Do I just have a tin ear or something? An interface is basically just an ADC with the necessary analog electronics to get the analog signal into good shape to be sampled, right? Obviously, there can be differences in the quality/design of the analog part (which I'd think could possibly make a big difference), and of course the ADC itself, its max bit rate, sample size, etc. But can we really hear these differences in the end?

I will speak an owner of an Antelope ZenQ TB working on PC The bad: -It took them almost two years after they released the interface to release the Thunderbolt 4 driver. In this time I was using their interface as a door stopper. -You need to download a third party software (free) to work with windows audio -You need to be very tech savvy (nerd level required) and even then their products have a learning curve. These are not plug & play. -Their plugins are good but no match to the UA plugins The nice: -They now have excellent customer support. I mean EXCELLENT. They always respond ASAP. They even fixed my interface for free when the cat stepped on the thunderbolt cable and broke the TB adapter 😛 -ZenQ sounds so much better than the Apollo intefaces. I am really happy that I chose it. These converters are real studio quality. -Their plugins cost a lot less that UA plugins when they have them on sale which is almost always :) Some people don't like this practice calling it "shady". For me it's no biggie.

Customer support was great for me! I will be the first to say it. As usual, people only type to complain, not to compliment so it’s easier to find the odd complaint than good reviews. I have used Antelope for over 10 years. First unit performed flawlessly the entire time. Not one issue. Ever. I got a new Galaxy 32, it had a couple of faulty inputs. Reported it to customer support and had a brand new unit from the factory to my door (in New Zealand!) within 5 days. Best customer support I have ever experienced new unit is flawless and performance is incredible. Drivers are rock solid. Most of the complaints I see come from people running a PC and for many reasons they will always run into some kind of compatibility issues by virtue of what they are. Antelope and Apple are rock solid together. Over the years 99% of customer complaints to ANY audio manufacturer have come from PC users, it’s not an exclusive Antelope issue.

I also run a control surface for mixing, but adding the audients knob into the equation is extra control I like. The mic pres it has aren’t too bad either. They’re kind of there as a couple extras if needed, but when I’ve used them I’ve gotten good results. The converters are solid too. We live in an amazing time in recording. I bought an antelope interface when they went on sale a few months ago. Massive upgrade from my presonus interface. The only complaint I have… The software is finicky.. sometimes you will go to track, and will get no sound. After some trial and error, it seems like the onboard plugins will just stop working. You’ll have to remove them from the signal chain and build the chain again. That seems to have fixed that issue, until it decides to do it again. All in all, I’m very pleased with the purchase!

The reason you buy units like these is because they will offload plugins to run on the device using dedicated processors, so it reduces cpu load on your computer. It made sense at the time, because it was the 2000's and early 2010s, and computers were maybe dual core, and much slower, for much of the time. and if you're spending that much to run plugins, why not build a nice interface as well? M4 is only an interface, no offboard processing.

I only say this from experience. I had an earlier zen interface. It was cool. Until it bricked during a firmware update. I will say between their customer service and Sweetwater, I got it replaced. But while waiting for the new one I got to reading and realized they don’t seem to support their interfaces for very long and are always coming out with a “newer better” one. I didn’t like that so I sold it and went back to metric halo. They are the only ones I know of still supporting their original interface (the 2882) that came out in like 2002. And then recently another studio reviewer posted his experience with the contract he was asked to sign before even getting the gear. He didn’t say which company it was, but…. I've owned two antelope interfaces... one on the middle of the 1grand mark and one at the 2 grand mark. One died after a week of use, and the other one showed up dead. It bums me out because I wanna love them.

Just picked up an Antelope Orion Synergy Core with 8 modeling mics and all their Core plugins (not Native) from VK at a good price, and I have to say that Antelope’s support has been excellent so far.🤷‍♂️

Hmm I wonder what advantage this interface has over audient id44, which is about the same price... I still can't find an interface that is more bang for buck than this one but this one may be different?

sorry man, but I thing you got something wrong... in the old good times of cakewalk 9, I used to use 3 soundblaster 16 to get 6 channels (at that time, interfaces were way more expensive in Brazil) and I didn't had any problem...

Is it actually better or just cheaper and maybe even marginally worse? It's a huge difference in price. I would treat like being a quote from a contractor -- don't get the cheapest or the most expensive.

Couple things: $600 is still a shitton of money. I have a super basic Behringer UM2 interface that...works? I've been looking at upgrading to a Focusrite Scarlett, but I don't want to waste my money if there's no noticeable difference in terms of tone or headroom (the Behringer seems to handle my EMG 81/60 pickups just fine). I don't care about whatever software comes bundled with it, because it's gonna be fed right into Reaper with my own effects and other stuff. Could we get a shootout between cheap interfaces (like my Behringer UM2) against some other popular interfaces? Thanks Glenn, and fuck you!

No reason to ditch my Tascam 208i yet. I have eight outputs, and with two Behringer preamps I have 20 in. I have two headphone jacks for monitoring. When you have gear that works, use it.

Glenn, you should look at the MBOX STUDIO - incredible value right now. $600 and comes with perpetual pro tools license. 21in/22out / reamp output on-board / two independent headphone mixes / carbon pres / adat in/out / bluetooth in/out It DESTROYS the twin in my opinion. Biggest update to my home setup in years and I'm really happy with it.

Glenn, I have a 2000 Marshall head and cabinet . The head stinks because we all know Marshall quit doing things right and 83 that being said I bought a katana GEN 300 W head which as our good friend would say can chug my problem is this I’m getting into the effects part of my amplifier in want to start recording, but I do not know all the abbreviations you use and you talk rather fast you have a show that just goes over a very simplistic set up for a guitar player to start recording thanks I love your show also, what is the definition of headroom? In fact the definition of a lot of the terms you’re using would be a great help and to understanding the technical aspects of what you’re talking about and trying to do I feel like I have a treasure map and a shovel, but no compass.

I've had a great experience with Antelope interfaces and have always been able to resolve issues with their customer service or a simple update. Maybe I'm just lucky? I am a Mac user, so I think that helps. Personally, I would go with RME or a newer MOTU interface before UA. They are both fast, stable/reliable, and have good sound quality. I do like the UA plugins though. Excellent stuff! Interesting that a hardware company killed it on the software, while the hardware has serious shortcomings (listed below). Of course, if you are happy with your UA interface, then by all means keep using it!! "The only problem is that it is $999." Honestly, If that was the only problem I would have stuck with the Apollo. They are certainly very stable and user friendly. But.....The UA interfaces are too slow to play guitar with native plugins. They don't have enough memory to mix full band tracks without buying more UA devices or using native plugins. The converters aren't nearly as good as Antelope, especially the DAC. There is no digital out in the Apollo, so you can't use a different DAC. The plugins are very expensive (I own most of them anyways haha). Maybe the newest high-end UA interfaces are better. I haven't had a reason to try those. At $999 for two preamps, I expect an interface to be competitive on all technical specs, not just 2 or 3.

I have 22 Microphones hooked up on my drum set. 4ch for the 2 Kick Drums, 2ch for Snare, 9ch for the 9 Toms, 1x HH, 1x Ride, 4x OH, 1x Mono Room And yes, most of the time I'm acually hitting ALL of the 9 Toms. Hooked it up inexpensively, with 3x Behringer 8ch preamps via ADAT to RME digiface usb then to Cubase. Works absolutely fine. Not everybody can afford a Simon Philips setup. But: For adequate A/D conversion of extremely loud Metal drums, you don't need all hi end stuff (mics/preamps/converters). Average quality is just okay.....the rest is ears and adjusting mic placement and gain level.

my new fractal I am about to get has spdif output and I can use it to play 4 tracks max instead of 2 max on the audient ID24 and it is very cool and has great headroom /specs for only $409 so that is why spdif is worth having and I had an antelope that I returned because it was impossible to get the free plugins to work and show up.

To output or record using multiple devices on Win10 & 11can be done pretty easily. All you need to setup is configure inside the stereo mix within the sound settings your 2 devices. There is a guide at how to geek- "How to Play Audio From Multiple Outputs in Windows 11". This works the same on Win10. Also, hilariously Microsoft had to recall the recall feature do to data like passwords being saved in plain text. Who's security, never heard of them??
