My path to becoming interested in watches was not one that happened all at once, but there is one moment that tied me to the world of watches forever, the time I first heard the story of an old watch owned by my great grandfather, Canio. In this video, I'll share a bit of family history through the lens of a relatively simple vintage watch that, for me, represents why I do what I do.

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback on this. I was a bit reluctant to make a video of this style as I knew it would be a very personal video for me to make so I am glad to see it has connected with many. As a cool and important side note, all the music used in this video was composed by my father.

Well..Courtney...we hope to see a proposal, wedding and the patter patter of tiny feet soon! Make sure they're boys! After all, you are now part of this legacy and you also have responsibility! Wow...bet you didn't see that coming! Seriously, this was a heartwarming video and very meaningful to me. I too was the last in my family to carry forward our namesake. It turns out we were only able to have one daughter..so the bloodline ends with me. It's something that crosses my mind from time to time, so instead of a family lineage, I've focused on external legacies through my day job where I can make an impact to society. Wishing both of you the best..and many boys!

Beautiful story! I volunteer at Veterans Watchmaker Initiative in Odessa, Delaware, where disabled Veterans are taught the art and science of watchmaking. The students eventually graduate to working on watches and in time take positions for other companies. I can't tell you how many people call to have their beloved watch repaired and share their precious memories with us. For many, the value of the piece is measured in sentimentality, not in monetary value. Your video is another testimony to that truth.

Teddy, this is beautiful. Forgive me a little (lot) of my own story. I'm a year younger than your dad, so the man I'm talking about is the same generation as your great grandfather...my granddad. Grandpa learn watch repair back in the late 30's, early 40's. Mom remembers him looking at watch parts at the kitchen table when she was very small. I have only a very few memories of him. About a year ago, I decided to pursue something that has held a deep fascination for me...learn watch repair like him. So at 60 years of age, I have done that, thanks to many great teachers on KZfaq, and passionate watch people like yourself. I have been buying, repairing, and selling for about a year, and I love it. And I called myself the Legacy Watch Guy in honor of my grandfather's memory. I wish he would have lived longer...I may not have waited till I was so old, but his picture, and a forged copy of his diploma with MY name on it (compliments of my daughter) hang next to my bench. Thank you for sharing your wonderful story, and your legacy.

I had a moment while watching this video; in that I went through a similar exchange of heirloom from one generation to the next. My great-grandfather immigrated from Italy to the U.S. when he was 10. His parents and all of their family members moved here and they all worked hard to put food on the table and a house over their heads. Eventually they moved around and settled in a small town in northwestern Pennsylvania. My great-grandfather was a musician in his spare time when he wasn't working construction or raising his 5 children. He had a drumset that he bought in the late 50's (a Ludwig WFL for those curious) and he played shows and gigs around PA and Ohio. Eventually he passed the drumset down to my uncle, who eventually passed it down to me. Watching this video made me connect in a surreal way that I felt every word you said ring true to me in a connected way, Teddy. Great video as always!

I love family history stories. This was an amazing little production, Teddy. I admit, during the video I kept wondering where you found such perfectly fitting and well timed music. Then I saw the credits and that your Dad composed it for you! Most excellent. My wife and I were blown away. Thanks for sharing, we truly appreciate this beautiful story. It’s all about carrying on the family name. 👌 You have a special story and that’s always worth preserving and continuing.

Absolutely amazing video! I was given my grandfather’s Watch one year ago by my father. An Omega seamaster he bought new in the early 60s. He passed away when my father was 6 years old, so for me its a connection to him, and to my father. Easily one of my most cherished possesions.
