It was around september 2005. I only had my drivers license for a few months, when I saw this Interlagos blue M5 parked on the streets. When I walked to it to take some pictures with my phone, the owner walked up. We talked a little and he invited me to drive along once. We picked a date and he took me for a drive in his car. Ten minutes into the drive he offered me to take the steering wheel. 5mn later I was doing 250 in an e60 M5 of a stranger. The memory of that moment will last forever. What a car

I got to surprisingly drive one at a small dealership. The guy said I could drive it for 30 minutes. It was the best experience of my life. Such an emotional moment. The V10 is amazing.

Amazing car. Wow and a real manual rather than a conversion. You describe it perfectly. The same reason I love the E90 m3.

I remember when Project Raleigh hit m5board, before it made its way to @M539Restorations Great seeing Raleigh living the greatest second life! I’m at 190,000+ miles and going on 13/14 years with my 6 speed Dinan S2 e60 m5. Had all, but the current gen, of the m5s. The m5s that I kept are my 3.8L e28m5 track toy and 6 speed e60m5. e60 is running a full Motorsport MCS 2Way suspension, custom 3.91 multiclutch diff, LTW Dinan wheels, and LTW BBK, and full bespoke Ti exhaust from Einhorn Industries. Basically built the “CS” BMW was too afraid to build with the e60. So much fun, going on track with 3 pedals, 4 doors, and a baby seat running down fast cars with slow drivers. 😂😂 The v10 is only a money pit if you have no money for proper maintenance. Lots of broke “ballers on beer budgets” picked up s85s that were unable to stay ahead of maintenance and sold them off to the next unsuspected owner with a mountain of deferred maintenance. How many high revving v10s from VAG Group can last to 100,000 miles and beyond without maintenance?

Nice driving. I'd like to give you just one suggestion for future videos. Don't know which camera you use, but that autofocus although very quick it is very distracting because it is not precise enough. You should consider something like sony rx100 or canon g7x, very light, great lens and perfect autofocus. Cheers

The E60 M5 feels so special to drive, I have owned and driven every M5 and pretty much every M car and along with the E92 M3 I also feel it's the pinnacle of BMW M. I have since moved over to Lamborghini and beyond in love with my Huracan but the BMW V10 sounds next level despite a lower redline (8250 vs 8500). My M5 has a custom exhaust with genuine rear section+carbon tips from Akrapovic (they never made a system for the M5, just the M6), Eventuri carbon intakes and a Eventuri full carbon plenum and it just sounds fantastic. Fully loaded with the cooling/heated/auto-bolstered seats, extended leather everwhere ie dashboard, doors etc, alcantara roof, E92 style bonnet, LCI lights, carbon bits everywhere including a full carbon CSL boot from seibon and despite owning it for 7 years and putting over 50K miles on it, still has a BMW warranty on it! It truly defines the word 'legend', I'll never sell it and there'sa reason despite all the BMW M cars I've had this is the only one I'm keeping for life. As Jeremy Clarkson said - "it's the best car I've ever driven". 🙌

Great video & amazing car! I never know what’s most impressive about the car - The rawness and sound of the engine, how it goes (thanks to the short gearing) or the balance of the chassis. But it is also true that you need to own a petrol station and a workshop to run this thing 😂

One thing that I am going to suggest to you Robert that you do before you go any further in terms of driving the car especially at high speeds for god sakes put more petrol in the car! I can see the gas light is on in the video! Last thing you want us to be cruising down the Audubon or wherever you are and run out of gas! That would suck!

Well, yeah.. Truly A Masterpiece. I used to own an E60 530d (2008) - also had comfortable seats and driving 600 - 800 km a day was still very comfy. I might get back to the BMW, but not sure what model....

Legend has it the M-division had a 6l version of the N/A V10 ready to go into the next M5 but exec management chickened out and went turbo V8… Lot of good people at M then realized what would be coming and left for other jobs.

It still blows my mind the US (land of the automatics) got the manuals and the EU (continent of the manuals) not 😅

My brother was at a bmw dealership one say buying a car so after a car show a buddy and me swung by the dealership and his salesman owned a manual e60 m5 and he let me test drive it. I’ve always wanted one. I own an e90 m3 and I will buy an e60 to go with it but manuals are so hard to find

These m5's are really cheap in the US where I live. Wanted one over the years but never pulled to trigger because they could be a real money pit. So many things that could go wrong. Tons of manual ones too. Amazing car though.

Everyone I know who had this gen M5 had bearing go out or a transmission.

The speedometer on these cars is lying much more than it should be. Especially on a high speed. But the drama is there.

Great car, and video (👍), but with all due respect, to say it’s the best m5 is horse shit! ;) the best looking is the e28 and the best to drive is the e34. There’s nothing like opposite lock on a e-34.

Could be the best of all times ..IF the WEIGHT were decent for a SPORT car. Everything start and ends with INERTIAL forces. None of recent times PIGS of two ton is not SPORT CAR, but just powerful cars, sometimes fast ones. Never SPORT ones.
