Well he did run Thor through, at the start. If Thors friends hadn't been there and forced him to spend time fighting them he could've capitalized on that surprise and stabbed him again. Even if Thor still had strength to punch him into orbit he would've gotten pretty badly Hurt from being repeatedly impaled

To be fair, even without the Captain Universe mojo, Spider-Man actually IS strong enough to yeet Hulk into orbit. Thor's a bit different. One of the canonical reasons he holds back is that he literally doesn't want to one up his friends on Midgard, cuz he's a bro like that. As opposed to Superman who's afraid of hurting people around him. Thor is completely cool to take the kiddie gloves off when shit gets real, or when he has to remind Tony Stark exactly who the fuck he really is and knock him down a peg or two.

Been reading a fanfic called 'Avengers of Steel' that is basically 'Man of Steel' Superman in the MCU. Only unlike Zack The Hack, the author actually respects the characters. Superman and Thor get together and spar a lot, and have enormous amounts of fun doing it.

Thor suffer the "superman" treatment where he is either the strongest person on the team resulting in the writer having to worf him or remove him to not run into plotholes or end the conflict before it begins. There also a divide now with comic Thor who is a serious warrior with strict honor but has moment of humor and merriment and then their is MCU thor who just a medieval frat boy with some moments of being serious and self reflective but mostly just wants to drink with his bros

Some people just got different tastes. I can see someone more into sci fi tech stories liking iron man more for instance, or more down to earth stories liking spiderman. I like hulk more cause he’s more associated with the spooky monster of the week side of marvel while kind of getting a taste of multiple elements. Thors certainly up there on my superhero list cause the space fantasy edge is cool. I just feel like theres a bit of suspension of disbelief for all the mortal villains wholly willing to run hands with an immortal thunder god. With Hulk at least he’s a creature of science with exploitable weaknesses (ignoring IH) thor It feels like theres a limit to the kind of stories you can tell with him that have stakes.

@@cherryjubilee5201 That's a hard question to answer. I read Preacher when I was teen and liked it a lot, thinking it was great. The next thing of him I read was The Boys and it was terrible. Then, reading his Hellblazer and Hitman you get the impression he started sucking around the time The Boys started. But that's not a actually true. Ennis seems to vary a lot by work. Looking back, his Hellblazer wasn't nearly as good as Delano's and Preacher really isn't that great a lot of the time. Not to mention he wrote The Pro (which was terrible) in 2002. These days I honestly think there isn't a good period of Ennis, there's just works which he isn't shit and somehow manage to be great. Hitman is really good. Fury: My War Gone By too. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really don't like Ennis except in some rare cases where he tones down his inner edgy 14 year old to actually try and write something poignant. Also when he's not talking about The Troubles.

Considering many of the super powered heroes deal with normal humans or peole significantly weaker then they are, it's a given that they pull their punches, otherwise people would be dying left right and centre.

I agree that it's a tiresome trope, but probably not for the same reason because I don't think that it would be more "serious" if they didn't hold back and just went Saitama on their enemies (which is why One Punch Man is such a great parody of the trope and genre). For me it's the Superman syndrome, being too overpowered makes characters mostly uninteresting and boring, with rare exceptions, and it's become like this childish competition where they always have to one-up each other to be considered better characters (!?!?) or more impressive. I don't see anything impressive about a writer deciding that a character is 3948717489 septillion times faster than light, 9875927258352 octillion times stronger than a supernova, and can be anywhere and everywhere and throughout all time and space and dimensions and shape all reality with a thought and... what a fucking joke. It's an insult to people's intelligence. Just write a goddamn relatable story and use characters' abilities for the story, not the other way around. This was written by Garth Ennis. So, yeah, go figure. Thor's first "fight" against this viking was sad to read; he was written like a LARPer taking on an actual juggernaut of a monster.

Now I haven't read this series. But the thought occurred to me that Thor might let the big bad beat him around, so that his battle companions could have time to finish off the rest of the big bad's army without deadboy interrupting. When he noticed they were finished, Thor got serious. It is just an idea of mine.

But i do thing sending the guy into orbit was a poor choice. What comes up, sooner or later comes down, and then the fight is on again.
