I actually forgot to mention one other severely bad aspect: vibrations. Taking this thing to motorway speed gives you vibrations through the handlebars which are very, very, very annoying. How on earth Triumph was able to actually think "yep, that's it, that bike is perfect and ready for production" is beyond me. I have never ridden a EURO-4 or 5 machine with this many flaws.

If this bike is bad, then you've officially become jaded from riding so many bikes! This bike is literal worlds above many other ADV bikes offroad and onroad. The only bikes that really compare are the Multi and the KTM. This Tiger wheelies past a GS You failed to realize they made this engine change so it can actually compete offroad. The regular triples were extremely vague offroad. These new T-planes are meant to give you feel and feedback offroad, and it shows because basically everyone agrees it kicks ass offroad. You kinda judged it as a sport touring bike, not as an ADV. Just from your comments i can tell you wished it was more like a S1000XR or something.
@Schaaf

"This here still is a very well-working bike" I literally put this very sentence into my review. I'm still looking for that part where I said that the Tiger was a bad bike. I have not heard a single person so far (except for biased Brits) who are saying that this bike works better than GS and KTM offroad. Little power down low plus jerky throttle response are actually absolute offroad nightmares. I'm afraid you and your "everyones" are not exactly good at judging offroad capabilities themselves...
@thembones6976
@thembones6976 Жыл бұрын
@@Schaaf kinda hard to say Brits are biased in this case, seeing how Brits have been enamored with the GS for a long time, and Brits also have harsh criticisms on the last generation Tiger. Id love to hear you tell Ricky Carmichael himself that he's a poor judge of offroad character 😂 he literally helped design the new Tiger and put it through its paces offroad. Two-time Isle of Man champ Cameron Donald just completed the Hardi Australia 24-hour trial with the new Tiger 1200, and this race was the most technical course yet!
@NicePantsLance
@NicePantsLance Жыл бұрын
@@Schaaf little torque down low huh?? The Tiger 1200 makes more torque at 3000rpm than the Multi V4s and Africa Twin 1100. Also makes the same horsepower as the SAS at 3000rpm, despite being 10 lb-ft shy of the SAS at 3000rpm. Having done a decent amount of offroading on big bikes, i can say huge torque down low can get you in trouble in technical situations. The KTM is great on open firetrails, but is like wrestling a bear during technical sections. The GS definitely has most of its grunt in low rpms, but its saved by the fact that its barely putting down 45 horsepower to the ground at 3000rpm, and it carries its weight so low. Think what you want about the Tigers offroading ability, but alot of top-tier riders have said great things about its offroad capabilities. Not surprised seeing how Ricky Carmichael helped design the bike. Ill agree to disagree with you on that one

@@Schaaffirst of all, the header on this video says "Why though?" That's the first indicator of bad things coming. Then, you went on to mock Triumph for thinking this bike was actually ready for production. If that wasn't enough, you went on to say "I have never ridden a Euro 4 or 5 machine with this many flaws." You clearly think this bike is a piece of garbage. Why not just own it? As far as the "jerkiness of the throttle" being bad offroad, there was no offroad component in this test. You had it in Sport mode the entire time. Off road mode has different mapping where the throttle is not as crisp...similar to rain mode. As far as vibrations go, you're obviously someone who is very sensitive to that. New bar end weights and ten minutes clears up what little vibes there are. I don't understand the cult following of the GS. It's not all that. Shaft drive and electronics issues. Satnav is a joke and the bike is too damned wide, with those cylinder heads jutting out, ready to punish your shins. KTMs are butt ugly and their reliability is suspect. The Multistrada is overpriced, has a faulty infotainment system, horrible heat management and the cost of ownership is probably worse than BMW. Nobody likes talking about those things because they've already made up their minds. We all have opinions. Good thing there are so many options to appeal to our whims and biases.

Mam Tygrysa - Tiger 1200 GT Explorer 2023 - ten motocykl to prawdziwy kocur. Tiger to inny motocykl i albo się go lubi albo nienawidzi, zero półśrodków. Tiger to szybki turystyk, który pojedzie na wyprawę bez zadyszki, będzie połykał kilometry bez względu na podłoże, tylko trzeba się z nim umieć dogadać.

Riding a bike differs from person to person. I took the Triumph RP on a 1 week test ride with the missus and luggage. Never once did i feel the suspension being too soft esp after adjusting it properly. Why? Because i rode it like and adventure/tourer bike and not as a sportsbike. As for vibrations, all bikes have it, the GS, the SAS, the Multi etc. The quickshiffter on the Tiger is brilliant, once again riding it as intended and not as a sportsbike. The one on the GS is agricultural at best. The one on the SAS and Multi were better, but those are basically sports bike on stilts. I wouldnt touch a KTM with a 10 ft pole having own the previous SAS. As for the multi, you will spend a ton of $$$ on their parts and fuel as the bike is thirsty. I do however agree with your point on the slow maneuvers, its a bit jerky, which i suppose could do with a software update. Triumph made a mistake putting the t-plane engine on the GT. In the end, there is no such thing as a perfect bike, only what we make of them. As for reference, i loved the test ride so much, i sold my 1250 GS and got the RP. Dont regret it one bit. Brilliant riding videos as always. Have enjoyed them immensely.

I have a 2023 Tiger GT Explorer and the vibration is terrible. I think people just get used to it. I have a buddy with a GS and another with a Multi. When riding their bikes, it is so obvious how much vibration is transmitted to the bars. I have 2200 miles on mine, and it will be traded as soon as a good deal on a Multi can be made. The heated grips are terrible as well. I paid 27k out the door with bags so It's not like I want to hate it, but I do. There are quite a few with under 1k miles for sale near me.

my guy , i accept the fact that it differs but how can you say the quickshifter is better when the normal shifting is as stiff as concrete ? i mean how did they manage to throw at the trash the smooth shifting gen 3 tigers had and replace it with that ? Also the engine is soulless and terrible , it sounds like a tractor 2 cylinder machine , if i would take an africa twin i would do it , nothing like a 3 line triumph oldschool engine and that of course is because of the needless t plane order , which i dont know why triumph manage to promote it to all her engines , it makes bike to vibrate like a sex toy , come on .

I can agree with schaaf, my rally explorer does definitely not have a stiff suspension even on lowest and hardest adjustment, also, I find myself using the sporty settting on trails to avoid the shaft rattling (just some of it) but agree overall that the tuning could be better and I´ve just got used to the settings and accepted the vibration as a tradeoff of the tplane

For the suspensions I feel like most recent bikes are just too stiff for rough roads (on big adventure bikes most would pick comfort over sportiness), so maybe that negative could be a positive for others. The other things you pointed out I think are very valid and bike probably needs a bit more development to compete with the kings of its category.

But it's crucial to have the CHOICE to adjust across the entire range of hard to soft, because riding conditions change, especially if you like taking the Rally model off-road. To have limited range of adjustability is ridiculous when one of the big selling points of this bike is the semi-active suspension.
@craigfinnegan8534

@@Schaaf I looked into software updates for this new Tiger 1200 to see if that annoying "catch" in the on-throttle could be fixed. The Triumph mechanic told me he thinks the problem is in the transmission, not the mapping. He said the engine could have the tuning changed, but it sounded to me more like a compensation for the problem than an actual fix of the problem. Not only is that a limited solution, but it could change other things you might not want changed. Keep in mind that if these problems could really be fixed that easily, Triumph would have done it themselves at the factory.

As far as the jerkiness goes, I don't know if I got used to the bike's throttle and adapted my wrist, or if it got better after break-in, but I did feel the jerkiness when I first got the bike. It is absolutely not an issue now. The engine vibrations don't start until 4500RPM, and don't get bad until you getting close to 6000RPM. This motor has so much torque and hp, I'm rarely in that range. And when I do, that means I'm riding very aggressively and I welcome the vibration and triple cyclinder screaming as part of the experience. I've rented the GS1250 for a week tour in France, rented a S1000XR for 4 days in Spain, and a few more middleweight bikes here and there. The handling and suspension on the Rally Pro is absolutely top-notch for a bike of this size, and my #1 reason for going for it. It has such better handling characteristics, that 2nd place is not close. This is the first review I've seen where that is mentioned as a negative aspect of this bike. Yes, the GS1250 is better off-road (mostly at low speeds), easier to move around at low speeds due to down-low boxer engine, has a proven track record, and a world-wide network of service and parts. But to chose the GS due to handling/suspension on the road?!!?!? Does not compute. To be fair, I've never scrapped the pegs on either of the bikes.

Jaufenpass! @@craigfinnegan8534 One thing I like about Guzzis and my HD is they are both easily maintained by a shadetree mechanic like me. Only thing the HD ever needs is an oil change. The Guzzi requires 6k mile valve checks, but they are super simple to get to and can be adjusted with a screwdriver. My old Versys took longer than that to strip to change a headlight bulb. I've never been a power nut. My excitement comes from smoothly skewering twisty roads. That doesn't take an abundance of HP. I can do it faster on my Thruxton, but its fun if a different challenge on the HD or something like the V85, though I demo'd a V85 on some twisty roads and it was sportier than I had expected. The best thing about the V85 was the ergonomics. Just fit me like a tailored suit.

I bought one in 2022 and I almost fully agree with you : jerky driveshaft, too soft suspension even in hardest mode, vibrations in mirrors, not enough ground clearance when cornering, despite weight loss compared to the previous Tigers still gravity point too high, the feel of the clutch is like a dry clutch and not as a hydraulic one. As a matter of fact, I have had two clutch issues in less than 6000 miles : an air bulb formed into the hydraulic system causing almost a standstill : I couldn't almost shift gear anymore and it was very hard to get it in neutral. Clutch lever got very hard (stiff) as well and the travel became worrying . They purged two times at the dealership ( first time at 3000 miles, second time at 6000). My confidence in the bike is lost. Although the engine is not top compared to the GS, KTM or Ducati, it sounds nice and the quickshifter is smooth ... and fast enough to me. Anyway : the bike has nice looks, but is generally deceiving in riding it. No wonder that it doesn't sell well. Hardly anybody buys it. You don't see them around. Missed chance, Triumph !

Great video and possibly the most reallistic sound experience compared to other YT channels. Thanks for great work. I’ve noticed the vibes when I first tried the bike. But somehow I managed to ignore them after some time and enjoying the ride quite a lot. I guess it could get some improvements in the next iteration. But as the overall package, including the appearance, engine, and handling, it won my heart.

Ok, I had a 2 hours test-drive of 1200 GT Pro. It was raining a little bit all the time, but still managed to make couple of open throttle runs up to 7000rpm. Ok, it's doesn't have a twin cylinders torque from 2000rpms, but from 3000 and up - more than adequate. Vibrations for me were about the same as on Tiger 900. Suspension was very nice. I'm not Schaaf so didn't manage to scrape foot pegs 😅. Throttle was indeed a touch jerky when using on lower speeds and revs. I think Tiger 900 had better throttle response. Dash is a little bit glitchy, but overall very nice bike. Expensive as any other bike in that category. Don't really need one.

A long time ago he reviewed the tiger 900s. To summarize, the sound of the old ones was better but the performance of the new ones significantly improved. Performance for character, it seems. For my opinion, these sound like fast revving twins, which triumph does well with it's modern classic bikes. I suppose that's their goal unless you pickup their sporty triples.

Nice road. Where was that? In terms of your review, I have to ask myself just how objective it really was? I‘ve seen dozens of reviews of the Tiger 1200 (in all formats), and none were as negative as yours. I‘ve ridden the GT Pro and had no problems with vibrations (nor on the 850 Sport which I currently own). Are you sure you don‘t have some anti-Triumph axe to grind, because many reviews I‘ve seen rate this way above the GS and other major competitors.

I couldn’t agree less with your review, I really couldn’t interesting how different people see things. The damping on the GS for example is okay on a smooth road, but on a U.K. pot holed carriageway the Triumph is infinitely better and more adjustable I’m surprised you didn’t customise the settings to your needs? Bottom end torque doesn’t rival the GS that’s true, but mid range onwards the Triumph is disappearing out of site, biting at the heels of a multi (the seat is much more comfortable than a multi as well) The vibes, people keep mentioning the vibrations again I don’t think they’re intrusive, they don’t really appear until around 5 and even then it’s never been an issue for me??? It does have some downsides, but comparing it to the current GS it’s far more exciting just my opinion

Bit of an outlier review but I can agree with a couple of things. Throttle response is snatchy and there are vibes above 6k. 1st gear could be lower. I do have to question some of your comments though. Quickshifter for example is brilliant yet you don't like it. Hmm. Did you actually tweak the suspension for your aggressive riding style? I don't know about the new GS but the 1250 has terrible suspension on anything but good roads and that can't be adjusted.

I have had about 600km on my GT Pro. First impression so far and compared to friends' GS 1250s: + Smooth engine, but roars loudly and proudly when revving hard. Great for highway touring with lots of immediate power on tap. + Overall great comfort. No noticeable vibration under 5k RPM (my bike is still breaking in so this may change). Pillion seat is nicely thick and soft. + Simple to operate the menus and settings. + Throttle is easy to work with in busy city traffic. + Shaft drive is wonderfully smooth and noiseless. + Much cheaper than an equivalent GS in my country. - It's too tall for riders below 180cm and has no way to permanently lower the suspension like the GS. I am 187cm and can't easily flat foot it even with the seat in lower position. - No TPMS - it is standard for the Explorer models only. Weird way to segment the trim levels IMO. GS 1250' base trim level has it. - The TFT is poorly executed - stutters, lots of dead space, turn signals remove the time and ambient temp readout, can't show odo/range in the basic view, etc. Well behind the GS. - The front dives easily and has no steering dampener - not the bike's fault, upside down forks tend to do that. The GS just refuses to dive no matter how hard I brake. - The handlebars are not really comfortable for me, it is a bit much of a stretch. - The rear perks up too much - maybe a design choice, but it does mean that the bike is a lot taller than it needs to be. - Crap Metzeler tires that grip worse in less than ideal conditions than my grandpa's hands. - Weird ass rear tire size at 18" (all other bikes in this segment use 17"). Difficult to find tire options. All in all it is great on its own but saying that this bike trumps the GS in most key areas is a bold claim at best. The GS is still better at the things that matter to an ADV rider, but I believe that Triumph did their best with what they had. I don't regret buying it over the GS and can live with the shortcomings.

A very interesting comparison - how does an adventure bike accelerate out of the hairpin curve? Does anyone count tenths of a second on a motorcycle trip? Are motorcycle tours only on twisty roads in the beautiful Italian Alps? If so, then this comparison is for a very narrow group... I was the owner of a Tiger 1200 Rally Pro. Yes, this bike has flaws, but not so much in the physical side as in other things: the dashboard is taken from the wrong motorcycle. The dashboard is definitely not that of an adventure bike!

Nobody counts tenth of a seconds on a mountain road. What counts is the feeling of satisfaction. Having something like a giant turbo lag on a big bike is the opposite of satisfying. While GS, KTM, and Multi V4 simply put the hammer down in the bottom of the rev range and that feels wonderful and satisfying.

@@Schaaf Hi, yes I understand you as I used to own a big Tiger and in July I rode dozens of mountain passes in northern Italy, including Stelvio. You are a very experienced rider and the videos you post are great but one sided. Very one-sided for evaluating the characteristics of a motorcycle. Twisty roads, full throttle, braking down. That is all, no more! For every type of motorcycle... Big Tiger was "fine-tuned" by Ricky Carmichael. Motocross rider. Apparently the bike was tuned more for offroad. If the fine-tuning had been done by Valentino Rossi, maybe the cornering acceleration parameters on mountain roads would be better and the offroad setup would be worse. What is absolutely certain - no motorcycle can be made perfect for all different riding modes. PS Triumph could tune their T1200's sprint acceleration at low revs. In the forest it is now very good, on mountain roads, in hairpins it is bad!

Some people like soft "real world" suspension. That's why I bought a SAR over a SAS - good quality manual suspension that I can set up how I like it (supple with good damping) - I can ride on any surface not even worrying about what's under me - it just grips. So what it it moves a bit when I'm being aggressive - a price worth paying for supreme comfort. I can still scrape the pegs - does doing the same feeling every ridge and bump in the road make it faster? No.

I like quality suspension. The SAR uses high class suspension parts. The Tiger doesn't. It's not about soft or hard. It's about damping characteristics

@@Schaaf Which is odd because Triumph usually get damping just right (for road bike use.) Looks like they dropped the ball on this one!

Couldn't agree with you more. The jerky throttle respond is a shame to Triumph. It's just not possible to trailbrake into a corner and get on the gas smoothly. Horrible😱😭 Only in RAIN mode you can try that, but still... and you loose a lot of power that way. I didn't think they made bad motorcycles and it isn't, but the mapping is terrible and I hope there will be an update soon that fixes this 🙄🙄🙄🤨🤨🤨

I was especially surprised because usually Triumphs are pretty good with their mappings

Wow that was a shocker. Triumph usually spends a lot of time and effort getting their bikes right. But clearly, in an effort to outdo the GS, they failed to capture the true essence of their bike. What a shame
