What they are not telling you is Oregon has one of the highest gas taxes in the nation. They have so much paid bureaucracy they could barely do simple tasks.

We agree that good, well-maintained roads are critical to Oregon's economy and citizens, and they do need to be paid for. At 2:08 in the video, it says, "Tough choices have to be made.” We propose that we add 'smart ', ‘cash-efficient ‘, and 'sustainable' to 'tough ‘. This is a moment for us, the citizens, ODOT, and Salem, to seize the opportunity and be as innovative as we were in 1919. Let’s come together, including the taxpaying public, to envision and shape the next 100 years of transportation in a way that is both efficient and sustainable. After all, they are not ODOT's or the Governor's roads - they are OURS!

How would you pay for road maintenance?

The gas tax isn’t something anyone should be proud of. It’s regressive and hits the poorest the hardest. Yet companies that use our infrastructure dont pay nearly the same rates.

The obvious solution is to implement a yearly tax due during registration, based on the total number of miles you drive in a 12 month period and the type of vehicle you drive. Not sure what the calculated conversion from a gas tax to a mileage tax would or should be, but that would probably be the easiest way to phase out a gas tax.

That's what I was thinking. The more you use (and abuse) the roads (freight hauling Amazon, and trucking companies being at the top) -- and also the more your business relies on them for making your revenue -- the more you should pony up. This will likely be passed on to the consumer, but consumers can stop consuming worthless junk 😂

3.5 Data breach may be involved in a group here in Salem covering up there crimes. Referred to possibly a A.I hacker group. The same group going after my girlfriend and I with Identity theft and stolen cars. Thank you Dan and Jessica

Short story indeed

the network is likely over built. gas taxes are becoming less effective (automobiles are getting heavier AND more efficient). and lastly ODOT and WSDOT both over spend on rural highways and roadways while short changing the major metros. Have you ever wondered why the state highways in Hillsboro or Bend are amazing, but I-5 in Portland is terrible? That's because ODOT routinely underfunds the major population center.

Your assumptions are not accurate. Half or all tax and transportation fees go directly to cities and counties with the Metro region receiving most of the funding. Additionally ODOT is directly responsible for many of the state highways within the Metro region which function more like local streets.
