Hello everyone! Welcome back to Fast Lane TV. This video is about " Why True Bikers DESPISE Can-Am Rykers ".
First things first: what are these Can-Am Rykers and Spyders? These vehicles are referred known as "three-wheeled motorbikes" or "reverse trikes" due to the fact that they have two front wheels and one back wheel. They have motorcycle-like motors and are meant to simulate the feeling of riding a motorcycle without the risk of falling off. That's fantastic, right?
Well, that's not how serious bikers see it. You have to understand that for true bikers, a motorcycle is much more than a means of getting from one place to another. It's more than just a hobby or a creative outlet; it's a way of life. It's about the bond they share with their bike and the sense of independence it gives them when they ride through the open road. True bikers know that learning to balance and control a two-wheeled bike is an essential part of the experience of riding a motorcycle.
If true bikers feel this way, though, why is that? Can-Am Rykers and Spyders, after all, provide certain benefits over motorbikes. To begin, it's significantly less risky to ride one of these. They are less likely to topple over thanks to the added stability provided by the two front wheels, especially while turning or traveling at moderate speeds. In addition to being more comfortable to ride, they also have more space for supplies, making them perfect for cross-country journeys. So, what exactly is the issue?

Truth of the matter is most of us Can-Am riders are not trying to be bikers lol. To me the reverse trike is the next evolution. I've owned motorcycles since 82 and when I bought my trike I was looking for something different and new there ain't much more the motorcycle industry can do other than go faster. We are creating our own community and definitely not trying to be known as bikers. Don't get me wrong, I still ride my bikes but the thrill of the trike is new and different.

WTF is this? Real bikers - if such a generalisation already was called for - wouldn't give a crap what anyone else was riding. They'd be enjoying their own ride and would be happy that others are enjoying their ride too, be it on two or three wheels. Yes, BRP has it's issues and yes parts can be belated or a good dealer/workshop can be hard to find, but all brands have suffered from delays recently. I'm rather disappointed in the quality - or rather lack there of - in the video. You can do MUCH better!

I agree. There are plenty of boomers/Xers that can afford and have bought $30+K Harleys..... but aren't very talented/skilled riding them. I don't really consider them "bikers". PS.... while a Spyder/Ryker isn't a "bike", they are both "motorcycles".... as in "motorized tricycles" that you ride, not drive (like you would a Slingshot). Also, above about a dozen mph, you aren't balancing your bike. Not say'n there isn't skill involved in riding it, just that the "balancing" the channel is talking about is overrated. My son was riding a bicycle at four for Pete's sake.

I have a mild case of cerebral palsy and the can am Ryker or Spyder are really the only option of motorcycle that I’ve been thinking about because they seem like the best option for me. I just passed my written learners permit test today and I’ll be happy to get one of these.

You sure know what bikers worry about? I ride a ryker,my husband a Harley,he has no problem with my trike,matter of fact,he takes it out for fun sometimes.water down the culture,what a bunch of ridiculous spew,maybe having a open mind to other types of rides

I’ve ridden for 60 years, raced a few seasons, and owned many motorcycles. Those years are behind me, and I love my Ryker Rally. I have no trouble keeping up with fast riders on sport bikes.

I’ve owned 4 motorcycles and now went to a can am lol I love it tho it’s so much more relaxing to ride and it’s automatic with a reverse , shit mines 900 CC with a 3 inline engine and easy maintainence I’ve seen some with 100k miles on them they are very reliable. But it’s up to preference I guess I just got sick of shifting constantly and no abs brakes which is dangerous.

For someone like me that has balance problems a 2 wheeled motorcycle and bikes don’t work for me but my 3 wheeled electric bike does which is why the can-am is perfect for me

This is a silly video…. Rode almost every type of bike. There is including a Can-Am. It all comes down to what you prefer. Don’t let anybody stop you from riding what you want to ride.

@@Bluis5445 the only problem with your comment is your opinion when I was in Europe they didn’t think Harleys were bikes and when I got back to America, the Harley people thought the crotch rocket people were stupid and they’re not riding real bikes, so it’s opinion that’s it but like I stated before I rode several bikes

Yeah, I just sold my 5th Harley/12th motorcycle to pick up a Ryker. Its all personal preference and a "True Biker" would acknowledge that instead of spewing bias.

I own both a two wheel motorcycle and three wheel motorcycle. Each provides a certain type of ride. I love both and wouldn't want to decide between the two if I was forced to. I don't get the hatred, it's bizarre, it's weird. Ride what you want, who cares? No one should, it's not their business and I would remind anyone of that, no matter where I was.

Real motorcycle riders ? So they hate can am rykers and spyders because it’s not a real motorcycle and the riders are lazy and don’t want to invest the time to learn to ride a “real motorcycle “ ??? Here is a little info that blows 90% of this hatred out of the water…… Buying a can am reverse trike that gives people a chance to experience something akin to real motorcycle riding at a lower cost and safer ride overall is bad but a bunch of the can am hate mob wouldn’t say a damned thing if you show up riding one of those Harley Davidson trikes! It’s ok to get a HD trike that costs 3 to 5 times as much and that handles so much worse than the can am 3 wheelers its laughable. So buying something that costs way more and is way more dangerous to operate is good? What kind of horse crap is that???? Things change and some people don’t like it. Being so closed minded and stubborn is really telling. So all the 3 wheeler haters need to GROW UP and realize that its none of their business what someone else rides or what experience they have doing so. Get a life…

I think true bikers don’t care what you ride as long as you’re safe and having fun. We dodge the same traffic as 2 wheelers. And age injuries etc all come into play. Also it’s fun to ride!!

I might be making a switch from my road glide to one of these after suffering a stroke and now prone to vertigo 2 wheels is just unsafe for me. My Harley has been sitting 2yrs now. I feel this would be a safer rout for me to go. I’ll miss 2 wheels for sure cause I already miss it.

Well some bikers that are now disabled want a way to ride again. There are also some people who are not experienced bikers that have disabilities that want to ride a motorized trike to be on the road with other bikers.

I've been riding for 15 years. I've owned cruisers sports bikes. ZX10 R6 Indian scout many different bikes. I'm ready to get one of these rikers because it's different. I guess that makes me not a real biker anymore

It is definitely not a motorcycle. In most states if you take your road test on a spyder, you are restricted from riding a bike with two wheels.

Here in Georgia you have to have a regular motorcycle license to ride this. But can ride a slingshot with just a regular driver's license

@@davidparker6800 Here in NY, you have to have a motorcycle license as well to ride a spyder, but if you take your motorcycle road test in a spyder you get a restiction on your license saying that you can't ride 2 wheelers.

It's just a stupid argument. I rode a two-wheel bike for 35 years and now I'm on a Spyder. There's a difference between a biker and an enthusiast and I've always been an enthusiast. I am very proud to ride a Spyder, but I was also very proud to ride my Roadking. Like I said, the argument is simply stupid.

This commentary is stupid! I'm 54 and I've been riding motorcycles since I was 13. As a real bike, per the video, I've never had a problem riding alone or considered these 3 wheeler any different than the 3 wheelers with 2 on the back, 1 in front. And then the narrator compares a automatic car to a manual one. That's still a car to a car! We should be supporting anyone getting on the open rode and taking on most of the same risks as a 2 wheeler. Except for slingshots. F thise guys! A bike doesn’thave a steering wheel or passenger seat to the right of the driver

I'm also 54.... and bought my 1st motorcycle (Yamy DT175.... probably about a '72 or so) at 13 (paper route money 😀). I agree with you mostly. While I would never consider a Slingshot a motorcycle (you get IN it and DRIVE it like a car), I still think they're freaking cool. I'd buy a Slingshot before I'd buy a convertible deuce coup (unless I could afford a 50s Vette or Tbird). But I wouldn't trade in either of my bikes OR my wife's Ryker for it.

Haters gonna hate. The fact is a Ryker is not a motorcycle, it is a three wheeler that is unique. So I have ridden motorcycles for 42 years now, and still do, my wife enjoys her Ryker and I take it out from time to time as it is an enjoyable experience in its own right, but have never thought about comparing it to a two wheeled motorcycle. Dual sports riders don't care about street bikes, street bikers dont care about super sport riders, and Harley riders hate everyone that doesn't have a Harley. Opinions are like bungholes, everyone's got one.

I disagree with the lack of attention you say is needed to ride a Ryker or a spider. You actually have three points of contact with the road that you have to worry about. Not just one. And as far as the leaning goes, you still have to lean to properly ride them. It is more like riding a snowmobile than a motorcycle.

Passes are usually given to old timers that can no longer hold a bike up that switch to a trike. But if you are a young healthy guy on a Harley trike expect to get some puzzled looks.

This is all bs. its just rage bait. most people buying these motorcycles have different poblems than just not being able to drive safely. i personally know over 6 people who have trikes. one of which has this one. they dont drive trikes because they are easy. they drive them because they have a leg injury or mental block that makes them scared to ride a bike. like trauma from seeing their friend get runover by a car. i was thinking of buying this trike because its the cheapest available witb the most costumization from the factory. and idk who these true riders are you are referring to. but i personally seen many hells angels who drive trikes. maybe not this trike but a trike is a trike. doesnt matter what it looks like. oh fun fact. just because it has 3 wheels doesnt mean it isnt a bike. because news flash. a bike with a sidecar drives almost identical as a trike. yeah its a different layout. but it has the same benefits as a trike.

@@kjjosker Everyone has their own opinions. As an old guy who has owned 203 motorcycles in my life, and raced for decades, I can tell you that these three-wheeled trikes are fun to ride. I still have some two-wheeled bikes and love riding them, no doubt about that. It's really two different things. I'm of the opinion that most riders, if they had a chance to ride a Ryker or a Spyder for a while, would figure out the differences and enjoy both. And I'm not talking about a 2 or 3-hour test ride, I'm talking about giving one a fair chance and riding it for a while. When I purchased my first Spyder it took me between two and three thousand miles to feel competent and comfortable cornering at speed while chasing my friends riding sport bikes. Whatever you ride, Enjoy it!

I almost forgot to mention, I owned and rode a Yamaha Niken for a year. Great machine! I think Yamaha calls it a Multi Wheeled Leaning Vehicle.

So I rode Hondas and Harley's for 35 years and because I ride a spyder now I can't be a biker. Since I ride with around 60 guys on Harleys, Honda's and Can-Ams I'd say they all disagree with you. Stop pretending to be something. You're not my friend. I know bikers and I know riders and with that attitude I would say you belong to neither group. To disrespect, any rider is to disrespect the freedom of riding.

@@blackpowderpapa I'm glad that you found people to ride with and that you have fun riding your spyder, but we must run in vastly different circles. Spyders just don't get the respect that bikes get. Old timers on trikes is a different story, but spyders no.
