Cats in mosques, decorated bird houses and blankets for stray dogs. These are common sights in Turkey. The special place animals have in the hearts of the Turkish people goes back to the Ottoman Empire when caring for animals was encouraged by the Sultan himself.

Living in İstanbul is a true blessing. When a woman walks alone at night there is always a big dog escorting the woman and making sure she is safe, if not it would protect her. This happened to me so many times. One day I was leaving a club and I noticed a man is following me and I saw a dog and walk towards her. She immediately knew something was wrong and barked at the man. Then she walked with me all the to subway. Another time I was crying my heart out on a bench and a cat jumped on my lap and started licking and comforting me. It was so wholesome. Every person should experience that feeling.

@@4rumani Armenian Historians reject the Armenian Genocide theory by looking at Armenian archives. First President of Armenia Ovanes Kaçaznuni; The ethnic cleansing and great massacres carried out by the Armenian Dashnak Government in the Turkish settlements caused the deportation of the Armenians. (Report to the Party Conference "The Dashnak Party Has Nothing to Do" April/1923) Protestant Armenian Deputy Zenop Bezciyan; Nearly 450 thousand people were Deported in the Armenian Exile. The 1.5 million definition is incorrect. Paris Peace Conference February 26, 1919 Armenian Deputy Bogos Nubaryan In the statement, he said that nearly half a million people were deported. Armenian Historian Artsunu Lalayan; He stated that the Armenians were deported due to the mass massacres and ethnic cleansing by the Armenian Nationalist Dashnak government in Turkish villages, the Turkish and Kurdish population in the East decreased by 77% and the Armenian population was deported for this reason. "The Counter-revolutionary Role of the Lalayan/Dashnak Party"(1914-23) American Historian Prof.Justin McCarthy; Looking at the Armenian documents, that the Armenian Hinchak and Dashnak Organizations brutally killed approximately 1 million Turks and Kurds in Eastern Anatolia, and that they did this with Russian support. The report sent from the Foreign Office to the British Crown Prosecutor's Office dated 31 May 1921; As a result of our research No clear evidence was found for the "Armenian Genocide" claim. "Maltese Tribunal" Russian Historian Prof. Oleg Kuznetsov; Considering the reports given by the Dashnak Party to the Russian government, the events that resulted in the massacre of thousands of Turks caused the Armenians to be exiled to regions far from the War by the Turks. The "Armenian Genocide" is a geopolitical fiction. "Armenia and the History of Terrorism in the 20th Century" Famous British Historian Prof. Norman Stone; No documents have been found to prove the Armenian Genocide Allegation. "Armenian Genocide" is a fiction based on Turkophobia. (2006/Interview with Serkan Koç) British Historian Prof. Bernard Levis; Looking at the documents, the Armenian Genocide is a lie. It is a product of propaganda. There are many documents proving the Muslim Massacres of the Dashnak Government in Eastern Anatolia. Armenian Minister A.F.Myasnikyan; In the Caucasus, the Armenian Dashnak Government carried out an ethnic cleansing against the Turks. Armenian Historian T. Hachikoglyan; The Armenian Dashnak government destroyed thousands of Turks. This was a political mistake. Armenian Deputy S.G.Pirumyan; The fascist Armenian Dashnak government has politically damaged the Armenians. The Dashnak government is responsible for killing many innocent people. "The Dashnaks in the Diaspora" Armenian Diplomat Artashesh Karinian; The Armenians and the Dashnak government committed an ethnic genocide on the Kurds and Turks. Due to the increase in the Massacres of Children and Women, the Russian Commanders were disturbed by this situation. "A.B. Karinyan Armenian Nationalist Currents" In the report dated September 4, 1917, signed by Russian Colonel Ostryanskiy, it was stated that Armenian gangs increased their looting activities and turned into genocide on the Turkish people. In his telegram dated February 15, 1918, the Commander of the Russian Caucasus Armies Odiselidze stated that the Armenian troops carried out mass brutality against the unarmed Turkish people, including women and children.

true. now it does rely on the individual animal. a dog that is generally a scaredy cat might be scared of everyone they do not know.. however like with my aunts dog. the pupper doesn't want anything to do with most humans except her owners, however when i visited (i was going to spend the night there aswell) on the same day despite the dog normally not liking people she wanted to cuddle with me and was jumping up at me for me to pick her up so she could get on my lap. and my aunt was absolutely gobsmacked that out of all people it would be me she would like. (though i do know dogs tend to adore me my mothers aunt also has a dog however this one isn't as shy towards people however he does have a certain way he acts around most people wich is greet them then move on.. in my case however he greets me then as soon as i sit down he decides he want's to be a lap dog and just plops down on my lap XD it's adorable and i love it)

I've been to Istanbul a few years ago and from what I've seen, turkish people are very friendly to people, as well as to animals. I had a smile on my face during the whole week I was there. Also, I petted all the cats and dogs I saw on the streets. So a considerable amount of my vacation was dedicated to petting animals) It is trully heartwarming how people treat animals there. I think it's a good sign when there is not one street I saw without an animal and several bowls of food and water. It tells a lot about the people that live on the street. I hope to come back to Istanbul in the future. ❤

We can also thank evolution. Also, animals are everywhere. We are so used to them. They are part of the society. In every city, every street. We grew up with them. Most of us love them. Some may say this is because of religion. But what i observe is, more that people are religious, more they dont like cats. I think the real reason that we love them is our culture and lifestyle.

It's considered "interesting" because so many countries have pretty shameful records when it comes to treatment of animals. The way we treat our animals is just not the norm in all countries. It can't really be pinned down why some are good and some are bad, Turkey is good, some of its neighbours are terrible. The UK is good, Germany too, but Spain is pretty awful and Greece isn't great either. So yeah, it is interesting to see and more so to know where that love of animals comes from.

I'm Indonesian, I have rescued 11 cats and now they're staying at home. Couldn't give them away because nobody wants domestic cats. It's very sad, really. But my family is grateful tho, luckily we never run out money to buy cat foods.

Been going on and off to Turkey since 1997. A lot has changed with new generations but mostly kindness and respect has not even the way the people address each other with respect. I was helped especially when kept falling after covid and becoming sick once. This was for nothing in return. Although sometimes feel too many stray animals the people do try very best to feed them.I love cats of Turkey and never alone asthere s always 1 or more by my side often for company.❤

@@supremetrashcan hello I'm pakistani too, I love animals and I always believe in caring and taking in strays or shelter animals rather than buying a pet. Unfortunately we can't say that for all of our country animal cruelty is pretty common here, the kids on the street thinking throwing rocks or tying up animals would be fun, frustrated or drunk men taking their anger out on them. It's become so common to see so many poor animals being abused by these type of people here. I really believe we need awareness for this issue because it's very prevalent.
