I couldn't understand some stuff here, they said the conflict started in 2013 when Ukraine rejected an association with the EU in order to build a stronger relationship with Russia (This is good for both Russia and Ukraine, right??). Then the people protested, but why? What did the EU alliance mean to the people to even make them protest like they did. And then, why does Russia invade Ukraine when Ukraine had already rejected the EU in order to have a stronger connection with Russia??

There the conflict started. It also has to be mentioned, that if you wanna have russian citzienship in ucrainia you are treated there as a second class citzen.

As well as western ukraine. There's ethnic romanian, hungarian and polish territories there, although there are no conflicts there yet.

As another comment pointed out, the USA has been expanding NATO ever closer to Russia's borders despite promising after the reunification of Germany not to extend NATO an "inch" to the east. NATO has expanded and is no suprise that Russia doesn't want a U.S. army base on its border and is willing to support another countries internal conflict to stop that from happening. The U.S. would do the same, they've meddled with and invaded other countries for far less.

Sadly, when historical background is lacking, you can't really achieve proper explanation. For foreigners this is what they *need* to know to understand the terminology used in the current conflict. It simply isn't Vox's style to create a 20-60 minute video explaining the historical context to things. They could've explained without historical context, but that would have led to opinions that will more often be wrong than not. video title is clickbaity though, I agree with that.

And Russian army gives supply and people to help locals. Ukrainian and Russian armies tried reach an agreement to stop the fire but Ukrainian army failed many times.

Nothing about 70+%of Crimean pop' consider themselves Russian not Ukrainian.

Конфликт начался не из-за газа, а из-за свержения Януковича с законной должности без каких-либо процедур присущих демократической стране (силовым путем). Переворот поддержали страны Запада таки как Германия, Франция, Британия и конечно США. (Польша в том числе и ряд прибалтийских стран). Конфликт начался из=за того что часть страны не согласилась с таким положением дел и поняла что в такой стране им делать ничего (стране где власть нарушает свои же принципы, конституцию и т.д.). В итоге люди решили провести вполне обычный ДЕМОКРАТИЧЕСКИЙ РЕФЕРЕНДУМ на котором решили что они являются отдельной страной от Украины (отметим что голосовали именно жители данных регионов).. После положительного решения (то есть ЗА выход из состава Украины) власть отправила войска на подавления (власть - Украинское государство которое на тот момент было обезглавлено так как президент отсутствовал, а Киев был фактический захвачен протестующими, как и все правительство). В результате часть отправленных ВОЙСК встало на стороны так называемых "Российских войск". После этого на Донбасс стали отправлять войска с отрядами националистов которые пресекали попытки перехода на другую стороны и в основном они и стреляют по городом Донецка и Луганска. Именно такие силы как Правый Сектор или Свобода которые показаны в этом видео как "обычные политические силы" используют людей которые вооружены и не являются частями Армии Украины (не являлись на тот момент), а по факту обычные нацисты. На счету этих выродков множество преступлений (часть которые OSCE задокументировала), Азов например прославился множеством пыток и других не очень хороших действий. Эти люди даже не соблюдают правила ведения войны, но при этом тут они выглядят как АНГЕЛЫ которые борются на свободы страны. При этом это называют войной с Россией, хотя никакой России там нету, я больше чем уверен что около 40 процентов жителей Украины поступила бы также. Но в страны жесткая цензура, журналистов убивают разными способами (от взрыва в машине, до падения или стрельбы). В такой ситуации сказать об отделении равносильно подписанию смертного приговора. Вот почему я написал ранее что информация тут явно сжата и упрощена для создания в вашей голове простых мыслей. Украина - добрые парни что борются за свою страны. Россия- злые коммунисты что пытаются вернуть СССР обратно. На самом деле все намного сложнее. Украина - это сейчас именно те люди что захватили страны, а теперь убивают тех кто считает что это было незаконно. А что если бы у вас в стране пришла куча "соотечественников" и сказала бы следующее: "Это незаконное правительство и мы его свергаем". Тут два варианта 1. вы голосовали на ЭТО правительство и ваша тчока зрения состоит в том что ваш голос также имеет силу, не так ли ? По какому праву эта горстка людей считает себя главней тех что проголосовали ? Вот люди из ДНР и ЛНР думали именно так. Они были несогласны с результатами Революции и не признавали власть которая села на эти места по собственному желанию. Такой процесс обычно называют революцией и при них допустим раскол страны на несколько частей. То есть есть согласные и не согласные. Таким образом все вполне легально. 2. Тут вы ЗА. Вы один из тех кто всем недоволен. Вы стоите на пощаде в толпе и думаете что все правильно ("Ох, как нас тут много", "прямо вся страна против этого Диктатора" и другие мысли появляются в вашей голове). Вы конечно не думаете о других людях что живут не в Киеве и то что десять или пятнадцать тысяч человек просто не могут представлять 40 миллионную страну. Вы поддаетесь стадному инстинкту и убираете власть (можно даже сказать что ведете себя как стадо баранов). Ну и что ? Смена власти прошла, Неугодных людей убрали ... И что ? Да ничего.. В итоге вы у разбитого корыта. Страна трещит по швам и гражданская война. Почему так ? НУ а вы вспомните начало второго пункта. Вы стоите на площади и убираете власть которая держит эту страну, соблюдает закон страны. Разрушив систему власти вы меняете государство, вы меняете законы (предварительно нарушив их). По сути вы создаете новое государство из старого. Вы же хотели обновлений ? Вот вам что-то новенькое... Правда у власти те же олигархи, жить стало еще хуже, ВВП упал по сравнению с 2013 годом, да еще и война с собственными людьми что несогласны с вами. Куча кредитов для МВФ и повышения тарифов. Так кто в этом виноват ? Те что соблюдали закон и поступили по законы увидев что творится в их стране (провели референдум и спросили мнения людей проживающих там, даже когда Украина разрушилась !!!!), или те что отдали власть в руки преступникам которых посадили туда с помощью других стран (предателей). Решайте сами, я лишь описал это.

The funny part is that Ukraine in the long term would have returned to Russia... or become very close, like Austria is to Germany, New Zealand to Australia or Canada to the US, different states but the people still very close. The war changed this. If you ask me, the Donbass and Crime should be Russian, but Russia should had been more patient and negociate them. Ukraine would have gotten her wish to join the EU, but not NATO, becoming like a southern Finland in exchange of that allowing Crimea to become russian and some gas. Russia shall have bought Crimea and the Donbass back, that would has made Ukraine more ukrainian by the way and less russian. The war changed that. I think Putin overreacted, he has a Chuck Norris complex to balance the damage done by drunken Yeltsin to the Russian self esteem. Ukraine becomes a EU country economically but a neutral buffer state like Finland. That would has been a acceptable outcome.

@@kevinkegan1 The funny thing is that until Putin made his move in Crimea, ukranian nationalists were more worried about Polish nationalist claiming part of western Ukranie and Belarus for Poland that Russia claiming eastern Ukraine for Russia. Now Poles and Ukranians seems to have become best pals as lesser slavs worried about big brother Russia.
