America/Western-standards in general, nudity and such is hardcore explicit and inappropriate but everything from guns to a character getting their organs violently harvested and their cranium evicirated is typically PG13 or at least not taboo. Though tbh Japan/Asia can be just as bad, a bit too casual with sexuality, the amount of hardcore perverted doujins placed right next to the kid's hello kitty stand is just as absurd. It seems society in general has pretty ridiculous concepts of what is or is not "appropriate".
