As a dane, I would say part of it is also cultural. Many people from Greenland come to Denmark for studying or working, and I have personally known people from Greenland so I can say so from personal experience. Also danish is taught in schools in Greenland and Denmark is very familiar to anyone from Greenland.

For comparison the American state of Wyoming has a population more than 10x larger, and Wyoming is the least populated state in the USA. Society in Greenland is from what I have heard fairly modern and people have free education and internet and stuff. But due to the rough terrain, cold temperatures and geographic isolation no one really drives cars or anything and people live in small houses in small isolated towns. There isn't much to do in Greenland so many people go to Denmark for a future with more oppurtunity. Sadly suicide rates in Greenland have been very high, which is probably because of the lack of a future many people in Greenland have and because of how Greenlandic traditional culture of whaling and hunting has been largely neglected which we Danes are guilty of😕

Russia didn't want to sell it tho. They fought the british empire and knew they couldn't hold Alaska so they sold it to the USA instead of giving the british empire more territory. The british were busy with Russia and other countries so they didn't want to fight the US too.

Times have changed... Greenland is very close to being its own country. The parliament in Copenhagen has already approved it. Greenland already rule themselves internally and have 100% rights to their soil - it's now almost exclusively up to Greenland to decide if and when. I am from Greenland and that danish and The greenlandic people have a deep connection. The danish does not get enough from Greenland but there is multiple Chinese mining companies that operate in Greenland. But there is no way that people are getting moved up to Greenland because the ice I melting. Everybody lives on the coast. But there is a lot of Asian people moving to Greenland as well as many Eastern European workers.

They can be independent if they say so. Denmark has no control over that. Greenland pretty much controls themselves. It wouldn't be a good idea though, because they're only about 56.000 people there and they couldn't possibly defend themselves against USA or another country who will try to take over Greenland instantly. Now, they get money from Denmark, they're free to have their own culture and language, they get resources they don't have themselves imported from Denmark and they're protected by NATO. I understand why they want to be independent, but they have a lot of benefits being a part of the Danish kingdom.

@@spinnofferr US is nether the main country or administer of Nato, yeah it is the biggest and the one with the most firepower but that does not mean that they can do whatever they want to, US can't do anything without Nato, yeah they'd still be strong but if they attacked another country, they would be basically excommunicated from Nato. And banned from trading with Nato and EU countries and US is already complaining big time about inflation and that is nothing compared to this would be And just because you are the biggest and worst does not mean you can do whatever you want to

But in real life the US actually controls politically and economically 80% of the NATO countries, and the government of little Denmark is almost completely subordinate to the US government. The US does not need to attack directly, it is enough to put pressure on and force little Denmark to give up Greenland. Of course, it will look like a purchase of Greenland, but a forced purchase.

I honestly wish America was more colonial. We could’ve had countries like Green land, more of Mexico, Cuba, the Caribbean islands, even the Philippines. We probably could’ve token Japan, instead of dropping bombs in it. Then maybe the development of nuclear weapons wouldn’t happen so quickly, then the Cold War wouldn’t be a huge deal, the space race could’ve been much safer with out nuclear weapons blowing holes into the atmosphere and the Vietnam war probably wouldn’t end in such a disaster if we actually held the sections of land we fought for in that war. Also with the Philippines, transportation of troops and supplies would be much easier. Think about it, America could’ve become a great and success superpower.

No, america didn't like colonialism,it was a former colony itself, it's what America wanted to do the least. Plus those countries like their own sovereignty despite their own struggles.

Clearly you're forgetting one thing while Greenland is a part of the kingdom of Denmark, it is a self-governing country only relying on Denmark for currency and military within the Kingdom and we cannot sell it, you cannot sell a free country, that would be like if the Brits where to sell Canada to the USA it's just not happening
