Why Van Halen took their time with “Right Now”

Жыл бұрын“Right Now” by Van Halen is an inspirational song about living in the moment, but it took a long time to come together. Released on 1991’s For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, their third after Sammy Hagar joined as frontman, it was purposefully written without a trace of reference to fast cars, girls, or partying. The video for the song was so ahead of its time - dealing with world issues and cultural hot button topics - that Hagar was afraid that the lyrics he had so painstakingly penned would get lost in the concept, at first. And of course, there’s the incomparable Eddie Van Halen playing piano on “Right Now,” a musical note that has its own backstory. Unpack it all in this episode of Behind The Song!

Right Now and Dreams are my all time favourite songs. Right Now is a masterpiece in so many ways.

I think this is the song that because of some recording glitch or some problem Eddie was forced to play the entire piano part with out even a click track. This song or the alien song. One of them. Just shows Eddie's sense of time. Among his other groups traits. But most bestest trait was that huge smile plastered across his face as he was being the best in the world with his love of music.

I saw Sammy Hagar live before he was with Van Halen When I heard he joined Van Halen I told my friends they would be better with Sammy as I knew he was that good. Nobody believed me and whether or not they preferred Roth everyone was happy Van Halen was back.

I'm a much bigger fan of this song than I was of Crystal Pepsi. 😝This is a very anthemic, motivational song, which is why it won so many awards im sure. 🥇

Thanks Janda for sharing this! I'm a drummer and I can't tell you how much this spoke to me! Loved this song as well as Jump and reminds me of my deceased son SSgt Charles Parent who was a Bronze star with Valor recipient hero during Iraqi Freedom who traind as an air defence specialist with the 101st Airborn Division and 2/44 ADA and also ran the Phalanx weapon system during his second tour in Iraq!
