Do they serve decaffeinated coffees in these Viennese coffeehouses? Some people cannot drink caffeinated coffees for health reasons.

Wonderful video! But when you mentioned about intellectuals meeting in coffee houses I thought you would have mentioned composers. And I thought you would mention the famous story about Brahms. He was sitting in the Wien coffee house frequented by composers. An ordinary customer mistook him for Johann Strauss II, and asked him to autograph a sheet music copy of the 'Blue Danube'. Brahms immediately wrote on the music, 'Leider nicht von Johannes Brahms'. (And today is Silvesternacht with Die Fledermaus being played at the Staatsoper tonight, and the world famous concert at the Musikverein tomorrow!)

So informative! As always! I remember in some of the old traditional coffee houses there are even some pianists playing... But haven't seen them in a while...

Indeed some traditional cafés like Café Central or Café Prückel offer piano music, reflecting a historical tradition from around 1900 when coffeehouses provided piano music and Billiard as entertainment. Additionally, Café Weingartner has Billiard tables, continuing this legacy.

Are children welcome in coffee houses? Do they offer any other drinks like Hot Chocolate for non coffee drinkers? Thank you for making this video to share the history with us.

👍🏻👍🏻☺️🇦🇹😊🎉☺️✌🏻 Sorry, hab vergessen bezüglich 7:39 : ein _Americano_ ist eigentlich mit Wasser, ähnlich wie Verlängerter, aber mit heißen Wasser (am besten so 90° wie der Espresso) .... Oder ?!

Ein Verlängerter und ein Americano sind tatsächlich sehr ähnlich. Der Verlängerte wird meistens 1:1 mit Wasser gestreckt, der Americano im Verhältnis 1:3 bis 1:4. Ich mag beide Varianten gerne :)
