Harry Potter Theory

Күн бұрын

Hey everyone,
Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In today’s video, we’re going to be discussing the Death Eaters and the followers of Lord Voldemort. More specifically, however, we’re going to discussing one follower in particular- notorious mass-murdering werewolf Fenrir Greyback.
Now, not unlike our own world- the wizarding world is broken up in two types of people: the morally righteous and the morally corrupt. This dichotomy is a common theme in literary works- and in Harry Potter the darker side of this spectrum is represented by the death eaters.
It all started in the late 1930’s when a young man by the name of Tom Riddle began attending Hogwarts. On the outside Riddle appeared to be a normal, respectable young man. But on the inside, deep down, he had a lot of demons- demons that pushed him to do unthinkable things. He didn’t have a mother or father figure- he was just left at an orphanage- and so he never had any true concept of love, or family. This rough start to life only made Riddle worse- as if he had been adopted by a loving family things could have potentially been different. He was conceived under a love potion- and this facts suggests that he is incapable of love, but Rowling has also stated that IF Riddles mother were around to care for him- then he would have been able to comprehend love. Love aside, Riddle didn’t even have a concept of friendship, which is why Riddle’s time at Hogwarts was so significant.
When Riddle began at Hogwarts he was sorted in to Slytherin house, and it didn’t take long for him to form a group of ‘friends’- at least that’s what it looked like. Of course- these ‘friends’ were really just his followers- a group once described by Dumbledore as “a mixture of the weak seeking protection, the ambitious seeking glory, and the thuggish seeking a leader who could show them more refined cruelty”. Initially these ‘friends’ were known as the Knights of Walpurgis- but fast forward to 1970, and they were known by a different name: The Death Eaters. At this stage Voldemort had decided to fully act on his dark nature- and he brought other witches and wizards along for the ride.
The Death Eaters were the most loyal followers of Voldemort - obeying his every bidding in an effort to ‘cleanse’ the wizarding world. The goal of the group was simple: establish pure-blood authority. Given that Voldemort’s goal was to basically oppress anyone that wasn’t a pure-blood witch or wizard, you’ll be surprised to hear that some members of the group weren’t actually pure-bloods. In fact, many of their followers were of breeds that Death eaters held considerable stigma towards- people like Fenrir Greyback.
Fenrir Greyback was a large vicious-looking werewolf and follower of Voldemort-notorious for his savagery and brutality when it came to targeting children. He had a bestial appearance with matted grey hair, whiskers, pointed teeth and long yellow nails- he was a nightmare-inducing figure. However, Greyback wasn’t always such a monster, in fact, he had quite a rough start to his life, being bitten by a werewolf very early on and infected with Lycanthropy.

It was actually because the previous minister of magic who just happens to be remus lupin's father called all werewolves evil in front of greyback which made him want revenge attacking his son biting him and then wanting to get his revenge on the ministry becoming this insane werewolf which built an army of werewolves and joined lord voldemort wanting to betray him as soon as he had the right opportunity

No I think the guy in the video is right. Ultimately there is a conflict of interest. Fenrir wants to turn as many wizards into werewolves as possible. Whereas Voldemort wants to reign supreme over wizarding kind. Voldemort still wants a society, but only those who are worthy to be part of that society, and a society he can reign supreme over. Voldemort wouldn’t have much of a pure blood society if they are all werewolves.

Really it was a mix of Voldemort despising Tom Sr. for abandoning himself and Merope and using that idea to gain followers. Which is why he changed his name. It's also why he didn't choose Neville as his "equal" but instead chose Harry. Neville was a pureblood while Harry was a halfblood like himself. Since halfbloods had one magical parent they were not seen as having "stolen" magic. They were however not held up to the same standard as purebloods. Which is why Bellatrix calls Harry a "filthy halfblood" and they allow Trelawny who is a halfblood herself to stay at Hogwarts.

Fenrir was a wild lonewolf. Voldemort was too sophisticated to allow him in his highest ranks, in his most loyal circle. And yes, Voldemort would most likely exterminate the werewolves, if he had the power and the ability to do so.

I think he would exterminate them once their usefulness no longer outweighed the possible eventual threat. I honestly can't say that Fenrir's motivations are completely evil. I think maybe the love spell thingy Lily put on Harry might've protected his mind. I read that somewhere, but I'm unsure if it's canon or fanon 😅 Irl Harry would probably have been worse off mentally. But there's no denying Voldemort's childhood was a whole lot worse. The orphanages during that time were over full, and poor + there was a war going on. If you seen old videos from orphanages you can often see kids soothing themselves and rocking back and forth, some have deformed limbs from lying in cots all day etc, it's quite horrific. Another user mentioned the love potion his mother (might have, we don't know) fed his father. But according to the author the potion/spell or whatever didn't make him unable to feel love, that's only symbolic. But his family has a history of mental illness, and JKR described him as a psychopath, they cannot feel love. He's a bit too emotional to actually be a psychopath imo but since it's a kids book that explanation makes the most sense. Even though Harry was neglected doesn't mean he'd turn into a psychopath, it depends a lot on genes not just environment.

I’m not sure Voldemort ever cared about pure-bloodedness. It seems like more of a means to an end. He’s not pure blooded himself and seems to look down on everyone, regardless of their heritage. He also selected half-blood Harry instead of pure-blooded Neville as the more likely to be his adversary. This is based on recent rewatch of the films, so there may be something in the books that counters this.
@cassiemontgomery45
@cassiemontgomery45 3 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered about this. I don't really think Voldemort really cared much about the pureblood cause. It was just something he used to get some of the oldest, wealthiest wizard families on his side, thus access to whatever resources they can offer up. Voldemort didn't have a cause other than himself and whatever goal he had at the time. It's clear from the story that Voldemort had no regard for anyone's life. He killed purebloods as easily as he killed anyone else. In fact, I think he may have had a secret hatred of the old pureblood families because Voldemort himself might have been one if his mother hadn't magically coerced his Muggle father into marriage. I believe he resents most pureblood wizards since he can't call himself one.

I actually disagree, I’m not sure if you’ve read the books or not but assuming you have you’re aware the end is different. So the reason it wouldn’t affect anything, Neville killed Nagini before anybody even realised Harry was not dead, in the confusion of the centaurs charging the death eaters. Then the death eaters were forced inside the school by arriving reinforcements, the family and friends of hog warts students, hogsmead residents, centaurs moved by hagrids calls for help, etc etc. All of this is entirely seperate from Harry being actually alive. Then once inside, every body starts fighting, and it’s clear the good guys are taking the advantage (bellatrix killed etc). Unless Voldemort could take on like 50 people I think he was done for at that point. Without any horcruxes left, it would only take one killing curse to finish him. Now, what would change. I imagine we would see much higher casualties, due to the high skill of Voldemort. Probably molly weasley would have died, Voldemort went to kill her after she killed bellatrix, Harry stopped him. So she would die. Then probably many more people as well in the course of taking down Voldemort. I don’t think any of this could happen because of the prophecy, Harry was basically forced to go back because of the lines in the prophecy. If he hadn’t gone back potentially it would break the prophecy, as Harry would have died at the hands of the other, therefore fulfilling the terms and allowing Voldemort to die by another’s hands. That’s long and rambled, but that’s my thoughts

Half breeds and magik beings with near human intelligence were looked at as less then even mud bloods. Voldemort used these dark half breeds and magik folk for his bidding but he had no liking for them, viewing as the other wizards did that they were superior. If Voldemort won he would have likely eradicated them all off hunting down all lesser beings, or enslaved them to do the bidding of their new wizard masters. (This comes from different accounts throughout the series, chamber of secrets, order of the phoenix, and deathly hallows, showing pure bloods prejudice to muggles, mudbloods, house elves, centaurs, giants, and other beings. Voldemort himself claimed this superiority on multiple occasions)

Half-bloods were actually safe, at least current ones, if Voldemort actually won and was in charge, having a relationship with a non-magical person would be seen as treason, and both would be executed, however if a child was born from the 2, they would treat that child as a second class citizen, but wouldn't kill them, as it wasn't the child's fault that their parents were traitors. Basically halfbloods would not be treated as well as pure bloods, but they wouldn't be eradicated

I would really like to see a theory video in the same vein as this. But if non-human magical creatures, such as goblins, house-elves, centaurs, Etc, or maybe even Voldemort himself could be infected with lycanthropy. Curious about this, but I doubt there would be much source material to base.

How do parents in the wizarding world seem to know their child will be a werewolf? Fenrir is the wolf that swallows the world in Norse mythos and well greyback is pretty obvious. Remus is one of the twins at the start of Rome who was nursed by a wolf and lupin literally means wolf-like

Hello! I've been watching your videos for quite some time. I would like to have a question/video idea if I may. Would we call a witch/wizard pure blood if they have had once, hundered generations ago a muggle in their lineage? And how many times should the offspring of a half-blood marry to mages to be considered pure blood (like Harry's son, is he a half-blood still, and if yes would his children be too if he married to a witch?) This is rather a question of curiosity than something really relevant. Thank You!

Doesn't Hagrid say that the concept of pure blood is ridiculous because most people have mixed blood lineage by now. Maybe with the exception of the 28 pure pure blood families. But how long before they all become inbred.

It would have been so much cooler if they explained it by saying that muggles bitten suddenly experience magic, and they assume they have gone mad. Compared to a lot of the functional werewolf, that is usually a magi that was bitten. But not always. Sometimes a muggle gets through it, And most of the times, they are bitter to say the least, and functionally immortal.

Here's is a question... How does one do conversations with dementors. Are they capable of speach? Are they capable of staying calm and listen? Thinking as Voldemort enlisted them and they also agreed with the ministery to watch Azkaban, surely they must be capable of something like that? Are they selfconcious and intelligent creatures to begin with? Or are they acting mostly on instinct? IN the third book it insinuated the later as I think that IF dementors possessed intelligence the one who sucked Harry would have known that it eventually would have repercussions for them.... While later books make it appear more like they are sentient self-concious creatures....

I have an IDEA FOR A VIDEO: I am rereading The Goblet of Fire and I came across something I'm not really able to explain. After priori incantatem, Harry escapes by getting back to the triwizard cup, which is a portkey. But (1) even if we accept that they do not need to be "programmed" the way they were at the Quidditch world cup but rather can be activated at any time, as Harry and Cedric did at the end of the third task, why was this particular portkey enchanted so as to provide a way out/back? Anything that indicates that they all work like this, in both directions? And also 2. Why wouldn't it take them back into the center of the maze but rather to the stands and spectators? Moreover, it gets them from far outside Hogwarts directly onto the grounds. So if portkeys do function for this purpose... why would Malfoy need to mend a vanishing cabinet in order to let the Death Eaters in in the sixth book? Looking forward to hearing your theories.

I can't find it back, but the Carlin Brothers did a theory video about that. Basically, they think the plan was for Voldemort to use element of surprise and go back to Hogwart after the cemetery. The cup was originally supposed to be a portkey to the exit of the labyrinth, but Crouch Jr added a step. But since Harry escaped with the Portkey, and warned Dumbledore about Voldemort, Voldy couldn't follow up with his plan.

In the forest Voldemort was using the elder wand which belonged to Harry so when he used the killing curse the wand could not kill Harry because he was the wands master. Also if you are wondering why the curse never rebounded back to Voldemort it was because he was already hit by it since he was destroying the horcrux inside of Harry

The love inside Harry is supposed to last until he’s 17-18. But in the goblet of fire, Voldemort used Harry’s blood to grow his body back, so the protection lives on until Voldemort’s dead.

When he took Harry's blood in GoF, he tied Harry to life while he survives. Lilly's sacrifice was alive in both Harry and Voldemort. In DH, there are multiple reasons Harry could not be killed by voldemort. The elder wand was loyal to Harry so would not kill him but instead it killed Voldemorts horcrux inside Harry, giving Harry the option to go back and fight. In Hogwarts the wand would not work properly when directed at it's master. The spell rebounded just like it did when Harry was a baby except this time, there were no horcruxes to keep Voldemort alive.

If the Death Eater's goal is to make the Wizarding World pure again and Greyback's goal is to create enough werewolves to dominate the Wizarding World, wouldn't both goals clash with each other? Voldemort promised Greyback more victims if he had joined forces with the Death Eaters but I don't think he would want Greyback to infect the Wizarding World with the werewolf curse. That would mean, if the Death Eaters had won, they will be a second big war involving the Death Eaters and the werewolves once they realised neither can fully achieve their goals of the other are still around. That's actually pretty cool to think about.. Especially if the remainder of Order of Phoniex joined the war but did not sided with Greyback or the Death Eaters. This could lead to more chaos than it already is.
@TheFrecklish
@TheFrecklish 3 жыл бұрын
Voldemort mainly used Greyback to threaten families to help him. If they didn’t, he would set a mad werewolf on them. I personally think that had Voldy won, the DEs would probably murder werewolves next🤔 if they couldn’t contain them and continuously use them for threats, that is.
@everwildart3563
@everwildart3563 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFrecklish If Voldemort had won, Greyback's service would be less needed. Voldemort would have taken over the Ministry and have full power over their military. Also, he's true plan is to clean the Wizarding World. I doubt he can do that if some of them are infected with werewolf disease. So I don't think he would want Greyback to infect purebloods for Greyback's army. That's where I think the clashing begin and where the two sides begin to fight for their own goal.

A huge part of it is that as well as Muggles and Muggle-borns, Voldemort and the Death Eaters HATED half breeds, which included werewolves. He actually mocks Bellatrix and Narcissa about the fact that Tonks married one. He was pragmatic, and realised that he would be a useful ally, but due to his "half breed" status, he would never have made him a death eater.
