Same happened down the road at Blackhall rocks which was featured in Get Carter with Michael Caine and Brit Ekland. The spoil from the pits transported overhead in buckets and dumped. I remember the beaches being covered with coal pickers when the mining strikes were on

The Blast Beach was used as a location for the surface of the planet in the film Alien 3.

It is called the blast beech because before Dawdon pit shafts were sunk there used to be a blast furnace iron works on the site, And a row of furnace workers houses called Watsons town, The blast. furnace slag was dumped onto the beach starting the beach pollution.

It is much cleaner, it's just with the sea's movements, it'll be bringing bits back and also the compacted layers of materials on the beach

Its not a nice beach and difficult to get down too if your not fit. Further down the coast 10 min walk is a beautiful beach. There are still toxic puddles which i would be afraid to take my dogs. I would avoid it.
