Sometimes I wonder if my hobby hurt the marriage but I can think of a lot of other things that could be worse. Thanks for sharing your story and I'm sorry for what you had to go through. I went through the same thing back in 2018. We sold the house and I had to break down my 120 gallon mixed reef. I now have a wonderful loving GF and I still get to see my kids almost every day since my ex and I share 50/50 custody. After being out of the hobby for a few years I recently started a new tank just last year, albeit a smaller Waterbox nano tank with a sump. I'm running an SPS dominant system. The first few months were rough, going through all the ugly algae phases and losing a few SPS frags. The tank has finally stabilized though and I'm just now starting to see SPS growth. I look forward and am excited to the future of this tank. Don't worry Scott, this divorce will soon be long behind you and things will get better.

I'm sorry for what you went through. I just learned my husband's been planning on a life with a woman he works with, once I die. I don't see me dying anytime soon, so I do have to wonder how that was going to be accomplished. Now he's about to be fired from his DHS job due to his threatening a coworker who his lady friend told him was bothering her. Now that he's going to lose his job, he learns she doesn't want anything to do with him. The 1 thing I ask from relationships is honesty. But couldn't even get that. Thankfully you're healthy. I am not. I was healthy when I got married and have always worked harder than most. I used to move mountains and now I'm trapped. I envy your escape and I hope everything gets better for you.

I would say sorry about the divorce, however; you are healthier, back to the hobby (which brings true happiness) and overall in a better situation than you were in. Plus you kept the house 💪… I personally know what it’s like to go through a divorce and although mine was cordial it still sucks. relearning yourself and carrying on with life is the next chapter so keep your head high and thank you for sharing part of your personal life. Hi Scott I’m a fellow Coloradan. I got into this hobby almost two years ago because of a divorce.. I had to take my daughter to the airport right in the middle of the pandemics shut down. Empty house and no work to go to I had to get my mind busy so I wouldn’t go back to some bad habits. Oh all the reef videos I’ve watch, this is probably one the most eye opening. Glad you made it through good and living a healthy life. It is sure a wake up call to us married big guys who get complacent with our hobbies.

Proud of you. Glad to see things are doing well now. Just wanted to mention that I have a 600 gallon reef with 7+ species of Holacanthus and Pomacanthus angels and I have seen virtually zero interest in any coral except zoas, acans, and aiptasia. As long as you feed them well I don't expect you to have issues with any corals you want to keep.

Been there, done that. My ex did 12 years in prison. That being said, I dont feel that I came out on top. I have no relationship with my kids-or my grandkids. I was put through hell.
