Read the history of how they came up with that name creole it was simply to erase the black ancestry like it didn't exist and to say they were better because usually the father was white from france( french) with the black woman usually a decendant from slave mother and white master. But bottom line it all descends from a black female . It all stems from slavery..

That’s not true the name creole doesn’t even originate in America it came from the carribean the term creole came to distinguish the difference between those born in the new world vs those born in Europe or Africa

Yep, some wanted to be set apart. Now some of this changed as time pasted. Thanks in part to Mr. James Brown. "Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud ". Attitudes changed in my neighborhood. ♥

I'm so glad you all have the opportunity to know your great grandmother, not just as your elder but as a woman. She wanted something different for her life, thanks to this society.😔

The term Creole can have many meanings, but during the early days of Louisiana, it meant that a person was born in the colony and was the descendant of French or Spanish parents. The term is a derivative of the word “criollo,” which means native or local, and was intended as a class distinction. In present Louisiana, Creole generally means a person or people of mixed colonial French, African American and Native American ancestry. The term Black Creole refers to freed slaves from Haiti and their descendants.

Jamaica also uses that term. I found my fourth grandma listed as Creole. Her mother had a Spanish name . Still figuring that one out.
