Actually Tornadoes do skip over houses and just disappear. When I was a baby apparently a tornado managed to rip half my room off, but miss me and not wake my parents.

When Nostalgia Critic said “How Many Tornadoes Can There Be In One Day? Is This Like The 11Th Belated Prague Of Egypt? This Simply Do Not Happen” I always say uh yes it does happen literally every year. It’s called a Tornado Outbreak and they can have every EF Scale Tornado it just depends on how powerful the supercell thunderstorm is. And funny thing is that Doug Walker lives in Illinois in a Chicago Suburb and it’s not on “official” maps but Illinois is part of Tornado Alley so we DO get Tornadoes they just don’t happen as often as the main part of Tornado Alley like Texas and Kansas.

Twister was inspired by NOAA after some very serious tornado disasters (One of those being the outbreak of 1985). Even if the movie might not be as good to some people, you need its context. It was literally made as an awareness that tornadoes are VERY dangerous. They went as far as the music being used to create such an ominous tone and even a guitar being used to create a tornado siren for a scene in the movie. The music was made to instill as much dread and fear as a tornado would so the orchestra worked hard to make songs that would put the thought of wind, sirens, and even tornadoes themselves, in your mind. Sure, awful acting and annoying parts, but it was more focused on warning people of tornadoes. Namely, the North, since in the 1985 outbreak the tornadoes went as far as Ohio where one crossed Ohio into Pennsylvania and caused some serious damages since, around the time, people thought tornadoes could NEVER happen in Pennsylvania. '85 proved people wrong and my hometown, to this day, still has people that survived it traumatized since the tornado split into three and hit with no warning... It even took out the siren the town had before it could ever issue a warning. I love the movie for the reasons it was made and its unique and creative methods with music to add more feeling to a fake tornado. To this day the movie gives me chills, as it also does for my mom who survived a direct hit from the 1985 outbreak. It also shows that tornadoes can do some very odd things that before were thought a tornado could never do (Tornadoes used to be said to stay on a set path, unable to move sideways or jump, incapable of going down one hill into a valley and then up the other hill). It also showed that they can happen at any time, day or night, and even water won't slow them. It also demonstrated that these could be VERY strong.

While I don’t have any tornado experience, the neighborhood I used to live in experienced 2 hurricanes (not at the same time, or course). One time, it happened when I was still in school (which wasn’t that far from where I lived), the other happened when I was home. You can imagine the looks on me & my mom when we were standing by the computer when it happened, we look out the window, & we just see a giant wall of wind heading towards us in the span of a second. Thankfully, it wasn’t strong enough to break the windows in our house, but it was still pretty scary. Since then, I’ve moved out, & while the places I lived in had tornado warnings, none of them came close enough for me to “experience” it.

Probably won't see this but an answer to your question about how it was not raining in the first tornado storm has a logical reasoning. There are sometimes LP Supercells that can produce tornadoes. LP stands for Low Precipitation. It is usually a storm chasers dream to have a storm with no rain as most tornadoes get wrapped in rain making it difficult to view them. LP's are rare and usually only happen in Colorado or the dry areas of the plains. Seems like when we have storms here in OKC like 98% of them turn out to be rain wrapped monsters.

Twister isn't the only movie with a reputation of "why did everyone love this movie, its crap", another notable one is Event Horizon. And like Twister visually its great but storywise and with the characters? Its a anemic action movie dressed up like a scifi, a wolf in sheeps clothing. But again, good visuals.

"At least one of you have seen a tornado with your own eyes." Umm... I live in the Midwest and an EF1 hit my town just a few weeks ago... Also, the most surreal moment of my entire life was due to a tornado - about 20 years ago I was working my first job at a Dairy Queen and a massive supercell storm is rolling through and spawned multiple tornados (lookup the May 2003 tornado outbreak). Rotation and a funnel cloud were reported a couple miles away and moving towards our store and we move all customers and employees into the walk-in cooler since it's built into the foundation... while in there and listening to the weather radio for an all-clear, the manager and I hear a "ding" on our headsets (meaning something tripped the drive-thru). Massive wind, the sound of hail, and tornado sirens can all be heard... as well as a diesel engine and a voice, "Yeah... I'd like to get a chicken strip basket and a peanut butter cup blizzard." Nature's giving you all the signs that it wants to harm you and this dude just wanted some munchies... he even got pissed off when we told him we weren't taking orders and that he should take cover. Oh, and that 15 years ago EF5 you're probably thinking about - Joplin, MO. That's about 2 hours south of me - our office organized a trip down there after it was hit to help with clean-up and repair, especially since many people here know people with family in Joplin. It looked really, really bad - like you'd expect from a strong tornado... until you got to the area that took a direct hit near the hospital... that looked apocalyptic - you couldn't tell what anything was, it was like someone took the entire neighborhood, shredded it, shook it like a snowglobe in a paint shaker, then put it back.

This isn't a Nostalgia Critic recommendation, but I do have a video that you might like. Remember those two One Piece videos you watched about why you should read/watch it by Super Eyepatch Wolf? Well, he also made a similar video about a game franchise called Yakuza, and I think you'd like the video, as well as suspect the video will sell you on the Yakuza games. It's called "Yakuza is Stupid and Beautiful and I Love it." The video is about 25 minutes long and it talks about the themes and stories of the Yakuza games, and how amazing they are. Again, I highly recommend both the video itself, and the Yakuza games.

Even after all this time with so many scientists studying them, we still don’t understand why some supercell thunderstorms produce tornadoes and others don’t. That’s why we have so many false alarm warnings. It’s to the point where some people don’t pay attention to the warnings anymore. Also, Dorothy was based on an actual device called TOTO.

Why was this movie so popular? Easy: It's junk food that pretends to be smarter than it is. It's made for the lowest common denominator of audience, the ones dumb enough to enjoy stupid movies, but especially like it when the movie makes them feel smart for understanding it, but are also completely lost when an actual smarter movie expects them to be able to think and understand it without being spoonfed exactly how it all fits together.

As far as this pretending to be smarter than it really is, actual meteorologists have reviewed this movie on youtube and thought the movie did a pretty good job with the science. It's not pretending anything and it does an adequate job of balancing science and escapism for average people. Life is complicated and can be difficult. Maybe most people aren't "dumb" or looking to validate their intelligence through viewing a popcorn flick, but just want to turn off and escape into a movie for two hours. Sheesh.
