At BASSBOSS, we believe the obsession with watts when evaluating loudspeakers is misguided. Our founder and designer, David Lee, explains why in this video.
Problem with Watts 00:58
Historically, watts were important when matching separate amplifiers and speakers. But for modern, self-powered loudspeakers, the number of watts is not the most crucial factor. What really matters is achieving the desired sound pressure level (SPL) in the room.
It's About the Outcome, Not the Specs 1:23
Loudspeakers have complex impedance curves, meaning their resistance to electrical flow varies with frequency. This makes the peak wattage rating an unreliable indicator of real-world performance. You want a system that can consistently deliver the target SPL without distortion or thermal compression - and that may require fewer watts than you'd expect. The efficiency of the design is more important than the raw wattage.
Choose Systems, Not Just Specs 2:36
When selecting a loudspeaker system, focus on the end result you want to achieve in the room. Compare how different products can meet your SPL requirements, not just their wattage ratings. The most efficient design that gets the job done is preferable, as it will draw less power and be more reliable.
Watts Don't Tell the Whole Story 5:31
Watts don't tell the whole story. At BASSBOSS, we design loudspeaker systems that prioritize real-world performance over inflated specifications. Watch the video to learn more from our founder, David Lee.
