Im American and I totally get this and agree. During my teens and early twenties, I remember trying to express my belief that marriage should not be based on love and I got such negative reactions that I stopped sharing my thoughts, even with the men I dated. I felt forced to go along with cultural norms so I wouldn't come off as a weirdo but it never served me well. I eventually got my married but kept my true feelings about my husband to my self. Let's just say that my choice to be with him had nothing to do with love. But I sometimes wonder if there are other Americans who feel like me but just don't feel comfortable admitting it due to the backlash...I also agree with women marrying older and men being providers but feminists American culture does not allow for this type of thinking.

Shelby Steele Thank you for sharing. I’m so happy for you ❤️ I’m in my early twenty and want to marry for security & have a provider husband. I have tried to share my thoughts in the past with friends before but found it better to keep it to myself. Feminist culture is also prevalent in the U.K.

I am from Europe, where the culture is even less traditional than in the US and I feel exactly like you! I’m getting married soon to my generous provider man. If I listened to “love”, like Disney movies and modern culture advocate, I would still be with my cheating ex who was a bum without a job and a weed addiction. But I decided to follow what was good for me instead. Love/chemistry is nothing you should base your decision for a life partner on!

I love that hes older it makes me feel safe and I feel like I still give him that excitement in his life because im younger...also I chose him because he cared a lot about me and my feelings and always was looking to protect me...his mentality was SO middle eastern and I never wanted to marry someone like that..but I love the way he treated me and talked to me ...weve been together 10 years and married 5 years ..i fall in love more and more with him every day...im 28 hes 35.. agreed with everything u said Mina 😍

I was married to an Indian guy, and I always had a respect for this outlook, which is why I married him. Ironically he was so obsessed with chemistry and constantly being in love and the dumb Bollywood narrative of intense feelings and attraction (yes I said it, Bollywood, not ‘western values’) that when things got unpleasant in our relationship, he looked outside to find fulfilment. We divorced.

You're right. I wish I could find a man with that mentality but have only found men with 50/50 mentality. Thought I was ok in my marriage while staying home taking care of my child and home while he worked, come to find out he would complain to others about how hard HE worked while I stayed home being LAZY. Needless to say he's the ex husband now.

As a person living in South-Asia in the 2020s , love marriage is equally accepted by parent like arrange marriage these days. However I feel Love is illogical, its subjective and to some extent an illusion. Arrange marriage- helps in forming a relationship with people of similar background, values etc. Its More objective, thereby reduces error. My vote goes for Arrange Marriage these days. The key point is the spouse needs to respect the other. Otherwise love/arrange marriage, neither works.

"Your truth," "my truth," "her truth," "his truth" … it's nonsense. There's THE TRUTH, and there's opinion. Our opinions do not warp the fabric of reality to fit our notions. Fo you want to understand human behavior, and marriage, and family, and all the reasons why people do what they do, and what the answer to humanity's fundamental problem is? Consult the Bible. It came from the only God there is, who created everything and designed us to work in certain ways. Cultures are unreliable.

When learning different languages, I remember an instructor saying English had only one word for so many different feelings or stages of a particular emotion, "love", where in other languages there are multiple different words for different kinds of love. But English speakers lump it all together. So culture and language has us confused big time!

When I was a little girl all the way up to my mid twenties I always enjoyed classic English literature and the way they presented traditional courtship. (Reasons why shows like Bridgeton are so popular) I never believed in love in the contemporary sense because I always felt it lacked substance and longevity. I remember how shocked the men I dated in my early 20s close to my age were shocked at my expressed value of assessing for compatibility longterm as opposed to just winging it. Being a child of divorce literally scared me from a bad marriage so conversations like these are so ideal to clear to fog between what works to establish a healthy marriage and what doesn't work.

VALENTINE'S DAY = ENFORCED ROMANCE (I lost a boyfriend in my 20s because he felt pressured about Valentine's Day and thought love should never equate to pressure); later as a professor I found out from my college students that losing your partner around Valentine's Day was super common! I also remember fights between married couples when VD wasn't celebrated correctly. Love expectations can do a lot of damage overall, and Valentine's Day just exacerbates it all.

What a beautiful message, Mina! I have experienced a watered down version of Indian culture, as my parents are from the West Indies, which is heavily influenced by Indian culture. After experiencing abusive relationships in my early 20s, and having to heal from those experiences, I knew I desired something deeper, something healthy, genuine and long-term. As a Christian woman, living in the western world, I have only recently begun to identify and appreciate arranged marriages, as God is currently arranging mine! I can honestly say I never thought of God as the ultimate matchmaker, but honestly, all of the marriages in the Bible were arranged. When we allow God to match us according to His purpose and will for our lives, we are truly matched with His best choice for us, and we get to experience a life-long journey of cultivating love and enhancing romance, like you said. I'm definitely looking forward to growing and cultivating deep fulfilling love and passionate romance with my future husband very soon!

Most of the Pakistani women I know are married to other Pakistan guys. Usually the guy provides. However they control there wives. They can't go out and do certain things. They have to cook ir clean. The guy won't lift a finger. They are fine with that. Usually the girl is the submissive one on that relationship. Some are working too and taking care of kids. What you are saying is not reality though. You are only referring to rich couples not regular couples.

He doesn't have to be old but "Older" than you by at least 4 to 7 years difference. Let me tell as women get older most start looking the same in age as their husbands even when there's a 10 year gap between them. After having babies and menopause women go through huge amounts of changes in their body and appearance, ( while most men are still on their prime even in their 50s to get a brand new and younger woman). Its wiser to get a man "at least" 5 years to 10 years older than you if you want to experience being provided and protected for as well as being CHERISHED and ADORED in your relationship. Majority of men your age or younger than you will not do all that for you trust me.

I do not think that there is a black and white experience of anyone when it comes to love or arranged marriage. You have to think who you are marying in a logical sense as well there needs to be some sort of chemistry as well. Marriage is an experience unique to all. If you found your soulmate whose mind and heart matches yours good for you. But you need to also change your self concept and work on limiting bleiwfs and becoming a good partner.

Very interesting and enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this. I think things have gotten really confused over the years and when we try to change history we go way to far the other way. I think why it shifted so much is that women didn't feel valued by being in the traditional role and now everything is super confusing. I just think overall we need more balance in both roles. A lot of work needs to be done and it's great that you are having open conversations with your son!

Great insights. I don’t see it as “damaged” but just knowing that there will be more resistance to heal from. Of course coming from a stable family doesn’t guarantee two people will get along. This video triggered a lot of emotions, I think I am not there yet, to listen this topic with a full open heart. I am emigrant in the Uk, and I see a lot of unfair things against different races so I am just not there yet to listen things about differences between races, even it came from a good place. I think, I did not get the principal of the video, because there is this anger cloud in front of my eyes. I know there is a lot of inner work to do here.

I met a man who is 8 years older than me, has a good job, similar interests to me and has a deep emotional reaction to me / willing to go the extra mile to see me etc. However, he is not very masculine. I think naturally I am more masculine than him and he is quite loving/soft. Is this a problem? I get confused with the “masculine provider” stuff

Question: how is him willing to go the extra mile for you and being loving and soft with you not masculine enough? How he is with you should be different than how he is at work and with his friends.

@@kristenmoonrise ah interesting. That’s a good point. Sometimes it feels like we’re just friends because we joke around so much. I think maybe that is a defense mechanism I use sometimes to keep things from getting to emotionally intimate.. I’ll watch for when I’m keeping it too “bro” like and allow myself to receive

@@kristenmoonrise I guess in my mind masculine is like dominating and assertive. He isn’t but he does protect and provide , in a gentle way.

@@nolacanola Ah yes maybe he's just waiting for you to give him the "ok". Some men may be hesitant because they don't want to make the wrong move. And many of us (myself included) needed a better understanding of masculinity. It doesn't have to be overt or forceful. In fact, if it's toxic that isn't healthy but many of us think that is the definition of masculinity. He seems to have the right balance. Go for it! 😉

But people in love marriages endure abuse too. That’s a character flaw in a person not necessarily arranged marriages

@Urvashi Sharma well yeah. Because there is something to learn from it. There are concepts from arranged marriages that the so called western style of love needs to learn.
@canesugar911

@Urvashi Sharma no YOU are wrong. Love is understanding yes. But there is a certain level of understanding that comes with living with someone for while. You absolutely cannot "love" someone because you have chemistry and went on a couple of dates with them. Your so called love before marriage will absolutely not put you ahead of themselves. I don't know why you are making it seem like having a sense of duty towards your spouse is a bad thing. If you married someone then you have sworn yourself to them and should carry out your duties as per the agreement.

@Urvashi Sharma live in relationships have been debunked even by the major proponents. The west. Studies have been shown that couples who live together before marriage increase likelihood of break up and decreases the likelihood of them getting married. Most people move in together to afford rent. I don't know why it is that you are against the concept of arranged marriage!!! If the love is as true as you claim then it shouldn't Matter weather you met at the mall or your parents put you two together. If it is true love it will never fade and persevere regardless. Majority of human feelings is based on attraction. And that is the point mina is trying to make. Attraction usually fades within 2 to 3 years not 10. And this point further gives credibility to arranged marriages. All you need to do is to look at the countries that are soooo obsessed with love and romance, look at the state of their marriages and relationships to invalidate your point. You claim that you are in a love marriage but it is heavily influenced by the more traditional values. And that is why your marriage has lasted as long as it has and also why you feel the so called love. These same values are upheld in arranged marriages. You are just brainwashed by Disney and Bollywood's idea of romance.

Not many women cares about dating older or money. They rather date someone similar to them who is fun.

Maybe, but when the fun is over they opt for older and with money. Women are hypergamous by default, if you don't believe this then you haven't been red pilled yet. Good luck.
