As a life time westerner, I had to laugh about the bugs in Florida discussion. All the biting bugs love me, so I hate them and I do not do humidity. I have one absolute rule in life: Never live anywhere east of Denver or south of Phoenix!

I took your advice, I was in Quartzsite and I meandered South by way of Kofa, and settled for the afternoon here in American Girl mine BLM! Definitely like it here, has a friendly feel not too crowded but not to empty nice and flat and I spent the whole afternoon exploring the local Hills and mines on my e-bike!

I live in the southwest (Las Vegas) and I still like southwest boondocking the most. There's so much easily accessible space (67% of Nevada is public land, for example). It works well for those of us that like to "wing it" more than plan. I just find camp when I get tired of driving, without much thought. The west being so mountainous (Nevada again has 150 named mountain ranges, the most of any state) means that you can escape to higher elevations relatively easily if you get the taste for snow in the winter or want to escape the summer heat. It'll be 100 degrees in summer, but I can drive 40 minutes and need a jacket. The only downside is how far apart some things are, it can be a bit tedious to drive so long to get anywhere. I once went like 170 miles between gas stations.

Lol. Raised and living again in the desert I gotta tell ya there are scorpions at night, cockroaches, snakes, coyotes. Get a blue light, go out at night and the scorpions glow. When I saw your cute little dog running free I worried about snakes and coyotes. Be careful. When my dog was getting house trained and I took her out at night I hated seeing what looked like the earth moving from all the night insects and creatures moving around. Glad that’s done. Enjoy your time in our beautiful desert.

Yes! We haven’t done the blue light at night, but have seen footage of the scorpions! 🦂 The desert animals do a great job of hiding during the day for sure. We just don’t want people to be afraid of there desert. After probably 1000+ miles of walking/hiking/running in the desert it’s amazing how little wild life you see during the day! Your land is beautiful! 🙏😊🏜️

Thank you for this video. I will check out this boondocking site when I head back through southern Cal in the spring. This is my first winter traveling full time in my RV. I just retired last summer and also bought an Outdoors RV (24RKS). I am loving the southwest. I've been to Pinnacles and Joshua Tree National Park and I'm currently at Organ Pipe Cactus NM. The Sonoran desert is so beautiful. Painted Rocks Campground is also a nice dry camping place with very large campsites at $8 per night (only $4 with senior pass); it has good cellular service too. Check it out! It's not far from where you are. There's good availability too. Site 35 is a really good site. Love your videos! Also I bought a 200 Watt solar suitcase and it really bumps up my solar input. I highly recommend getting one.

Wait until the wind starts blowing at American Girl mine. It picks up the sand from the Imperial Dunes and you just hunker down and wait for it to stop. This year is the first season we saw a scorpion during the Winter. Wife found it in our shower tent. This is also the first season we've seen tarantulas. Only a couple here in AZ, but a bunch in Colorado. We got there at the tail end of the seasonal tarantula migration. It was pretty cool. I had a worse bug experience in Alabama, fire ants got my feet, 1 month later and I'm still recovering. No BLM land worth anything in South Florida. My best life was living in Key Largo. Great video! I’m trying to decide between the ORV 22FQS (26’8”) or go two feet longer to get the sofa on the 24RKS (28’8”). We plan to take it up through the mountain winding roads and possible small campgrounds so we wanted to stay short. What do you think from your experiences? Thank you for your help.

Thanks Rodney! It really is a tough decision! Coming from the van (never towing) we wanted to stay small and go with the 22fqs. I think it would feel bigger with the more open one room layout and Chris loves the bigger kitchen. Also has a wider open floor area to workout between the kitchen and dinette table. The 24rks does have the more separate bedroom if your on different sleep schedules and the couch is of course nice! We're going on two years full time in the 22fqs this fall and its been good...but extra space would always be nice!😊

I have the 24RKS and I love it. I went longer since I live in it full time. I got the stadium seating recliners (instead of the couch) which are very comfortable. My old body needs a comfortable place to sit. If I were not full time RVing, I would have gone with a total length less than 25 foot for more camping options. Your camping options are about the same for 26' and 28'.

My wife and I thought we wanted a 24 ft ORV until we saw the 22FQS. We love the counter space of the 22FQS and the open layout allows my wife to do her yoga inside during the cold mornings. While built-in chairs or couch would be nice, when we want to lounge inside we put up a NEMO Stargaze chair to read to watching TV. We’ll also use the bed, with lots of pillows behind us, to lounge and read. The smaller size of the 22FQS is nice when driving on backroads or around town. I can whip into service stations for fuel that would be difficult with a larger trailer. We’re going on our third year with our 22FQS and have no regrets.

The coyotes will eat your dog. We have them near me, they are not afraid of large dogs and do snatch dogs the size of your Basenji.

Love your channel, but you forgot about the occasional dust storms and generally trailer dust cleaning requirements. Question: Do you lose some solar charging capability due to dust accumulation on the panels? If so, do you have recommendations for cleaning of panels?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Жыл бұрын
Yes, the dust can be a bit of a problem! We typically keep the windows closed and just use the roof vents for circulation to keep the dust down. We also vacuum every week to stay on top of it. Thankfully, 4 years, we haven't been in a really bad dust storm yet! I just clean the panels once a week or so with just water. A hose if at a campground or a spray bottle and microfiber if not. You'll loose some power but not a lot with a little dust. I did a test once with them filthy and covered in dirt and film and its was about 10% loss.

We are camping over in Arizona (Between Phoenix and Tucson) in our 22FQS and the past week we had lots of rain and we’ve been having cold (mid 30’s) nights. Did you get the rain and has it been colder where you are staying? Looking forward to temperature’s warming up 10°-15° soon. 😊
@IreneIronTravels

Yes, it’s seemed to get a little colder the past week! It was 30’s-40’s overnight in lake havasu and now in quartzsite it’s in the low 30’s overnight. 3 days of straight rain a week a go, but dry since!

Hi, New subscriber here. I would also like to dry camp in the southwest. I have a question. Does it get terribly dirty/dusty? Are you constantly cleaning your camper/ Speaking of cleaning, how do you do laundry? I enjoy learning from your videos, Ty. WPH
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Жыл бұрын
Hello, welcome! It can get dusty, but it's usually not as bad as say camping at/on the beach. We do vacuum weekly and you might have to do a quick sweep every other day. Helps to keep the windows closed and use the roof fans for ventilation. We do laundry at the laundry mat or at campgrounds about every two weeks!

We have a lithium battery in there that it keeps charged for our Dometic CFX cooler. We lived in the truck for 5 months with a rooftop tent. There are videos on our channel page if you want to see more. 👍

We didn't have to use Starlink here as the cell service is really good, but Starlink would work great out here. No obstructions, and not too many people using it!

Shhhhhh, first rule - explore yourself, enjoy what you find, let others that are adventurous do the same, don’t destroy it for those who explore for themselves. Don’t exploit those special places for likes, find it, explore it, leave it, let others do the same. It’s only special because it’s special. Mum is the word. Don’t be the Pied Piper.

What's not to love about Florida - flying cockroaches that stop foot traffic; alligators in any body of water ready to eat your beloved pets or kids; humidity; Brian Laundry's (sp?) parents (aka the worst potential mother-in-law in the world).

Yes, we are comfortable leaving our RV and we do have security cameras and a hitch lock. But it’s really not much different than leaving a house all day to go to work. Or parking a car/truck somewhere. 😊👍
