A wise person once told me when I strayed away from nexus to other filters,”end the pain and go back to nexus,they work,I use them and I wouldn’t sell them if they didn’t work”. So I went back to nexus…… years later,no problems

I ran a Nexus 320 for 5 year's. They are quite good filters. I've also run beadfilter and bakki shower's. One of the drawbacks is the physical fine removal is a bit poor with the micro k1. The other things is people should remove all the k1 and check/clean the bio side near the feet. It had lots of air moving to media. I used a airtech 130 pump. But still crap builds up down there. The only thing that went wrong with mine was the air taps corroded and needed replacing.

I take on board your nexus comments, I only got rid of my nexus for a drum because if the constant cleaning!!! Water quality and clarity were always very good. I figured if I installed the auto kit it’d be more to go wrong than on a drum so went with drum.

Thanks this is really helpful. I'm planning g a 10,000 litre pond, would I need a Nexus 220 or 320? It would be slightly stocked with a bottom drain. Can you run a skimmer directly into the Nexus or does it always have to go through a separate bead?

I've had 2 drum systems in a year both have failed ( I won't name them but one cost £2100 pump+bio Combi ) I've gone back to a 220 Nexus and one Easy Pod on the skimmer line. If you think drums are the answer think again they are not all there cracked up to be they often fail and most of the pressure pumps supplied are just not up to the job. With a Nexus you just fit and forget. Great watch ;)

Buying a nexus is best money I've ever spent. after using various filters over the years I can say the nexus is by far the best

Don't apologize for cobwebs. They are incredibly useful in any sort of greenhouse!

Could you do a video on what to look for in a koi so discuss tosas, nissai etc what makes a show winning fish and also an ideal bowl of fish for a starter pond

The problems I’ve found with the nexus filters and plastic media is that you can only filter one line with a a nexus, they do still leave fine particles in the water (you could see them on your underwater footage), and I’ve found as others have that plastic media doesn’t seem to handle nitrites/nitrates very well, but it is good at handling ammonia. When I had my nexus 220 I was never happy with the amount of “fines” in the water and it never really seemed to fully control the nitrites (always seemed to have a trace amount), and I had fairly high nitrates too.I took out the easy section and popped in a Draco drop in drum filter and that had pretty much gotten rid of the “fines” within a week, and I added a small bakki type shower with pumice stone in and that sorted the nitrite/nitrate issue - probably within two weeks, but the one that remained was that you could only ever filter one line, which would mean buying two filters, and running two pumps etc. Once you add up the cost of two nexus filters you soon start getting very close to the cost of a drum filter and a bio chamber, that would allow you to filter multiple lines, have higher throughput (say if you want to put 80% over a shower and 20% back through a mid-water return for example! Nexus filters are better than a lot of other cheaper alternatives, but they don’t even come close to a even a reasonable drum/bio chamber in terms of ease of use/water clarity etc etc.

Good afternoon Tim. Another good video. Although I don't use a nexus, I still use a K1 based media system. Its DIY and it does what it needs to be honest. The only other difference is that I have added Alphagrog just before a waterfall to clean up the nitrates. You mentioned medicating fish as precautionary measure. The question I have regards temperature and medication. I recognise your ponds are well heated. Unfortunately, mine is not. Although my fish look OK, there are signs on one or 2 that have little bits of sores coming out of winter, not a massive problem but I would like to prevent them getting worse. I am thinking of using NTLabs acriflavine to put in the pond, however the temperature is only just hitting 8 dg C. What are thoughts on using Acriflavine in water temperatures under 10dg? Hi Tim . If my inner circle in my Nexus is higher than the outer circle have I got my Nexus to high. My pond is gravity fed to my sieve And then pump fed to my Nexus But I do have a bit higher than the water level on the pond.

Hi everyone I suffered with flukes in my pond last year that affected a few of my koi and lost about 11 fish in total. I did treat the pond with flukesol but 12 months on I'm still getting infected fish. I've had koi for about 20 years but never suffered like this before. I've tested the water in every way and all comes back as perfect is their anything else I'm missing or has anyone else suffered the same thing and been able to cure this. Cheers Gez

Why not youse a drum then tim ? Self cleaning, get rid of debris at set intervals or when auto triggers and better clarity ?

It works that's why so many people use them, with very little issues. Nice shop btw👍. I'm looking at getting a Nexus 220 for these very reasons. One question though. If I was to put the full 150 litres into the nexus. Would the 95 air pump be enough or would the 130 be better. As I did see in another video 11000gal with 2 320's running off one 130pump? I currently have a nexus 320 running pump fed and I was looking at changing the pump for a vari model, I wanted to ask you some advice. Would I still need to install the pump submerged or could I install it above water and have the pump pull the water from the pond into the filer. Thanks in advance.

We are planning to upgrade to a 6,000-gallon pond and would love your opinion on having a 2 bottom drains gravity fed filter set up. From the advice we've received so far, we had been thinking about a drum filter (75,000l) with a 1200 mm bio chamber and skimmer using 2 x variable 20,000lph pumps (run under capacity) for the returns to the pond. We have also been thinking about having a bakki shower for one of the returns, but that could be added later. We don't want to overdo the filtration if we dont need it, especially with rising electricity costs, and something reliable is important to us. Atm, we are pump fed (2,000-gallons), but we've always been told a drum filter is the way to go. I've noticed that many dealers/shops don't seem to use them and after seeing your informative video with the Nexus and bead filters, I'm just wondering what set-up you'd recommend? We've only been doing this for about 5 years, so we are still novices, so I'd really appreciate your thoughts 🙏🏻 Thanks.

Hi, can you give me some help and advice please, i have a pond 10ft long 5ft wide and just under 4ft deep, its pump fed using a 11000 pump going into 55w pro clear uv then through a Y splitter to a easypod and 4 bay mini kockney koi chamber but i am struggling big time with water levels, if i upgrade to a nexus 220 will this solve my problems

You can't fault K1 for bio, I've not used the modern ones so I can't comment on mech but my good old original 200, is good at it but not the greatest( even with a Cetus before it), as is the same with all filtration systems, if it works for you your going to recommend them and you can't fault that logic, Steve over here swears by drums, Joanne over here swears by showers, both work for them Nexus works for you so why not recommend it, clearly you think they are epic.
