Can you imagine being so arrogant to blame a spotter though? Doing this day in and day out is less about single “wins” and more about consistency, and you’ll never be consistent with constant injuries. People who blame the spotter must be incredibly defensive.

@@hozani3875Not really. Especially if you don't know the person. If you're spotting someone you don't know failure can be hard to detect. Some people shake a lot. Some people list to the side when they're failing, some do it when everything is fine (perhaps they're in the middle of correcting that). Some people fail slowly with the bar slowly coming down, some people will recover by lowering the bar a bit to realign thier elbow or what ever. If you have a random person spotting you, you just have to go with it.

Yes I totally agree, my coach has saved me from so many injuries. Like one time in a tsuke I didn’t go back for some reason and almost hit my head on the vault and my coach went and grabbed me and saved me 😅. Also in a roundof backhand spring back layout I did a bad backhand spring but still went for the layout and almost landed on my neck but my coach saved me. On a flyaway on bars I almost banged my ankles on the bar but again my spotter saved me😅. And on a roundof backtuck off beam I almost hit my head and my coach pushed me backwards and saved me, I am so thankful for my coach because without her I wouldn’t be the gymnast I am today

My brother does gymnastics and this is the only reason that you blame a spotter for a hit on the bar. He was doing a really hard trick and the spotter was distracted talking to his friends and on his phone not even looking at him. The coach was on the other side of the room not paying attention. My brother ended up messing up on a move and going to far forward, he broke 2 fingers, sprained his wrist and because he caught with his ankles he broke on and fractured the other he was rushed to the hospital. In the end the he never went back to that place. He ended up joining my acrobatics class and is much happier there and all better (this happened 2 years ago).

As a classical musician, they are like the page turners we have. Page turners are not just random people, they can read music as fast/slow as the musicians playing their instrument (usually pianists have page turners). And they turn the page in split seconds, while they sit next to the musician. Sometimes accidents happen, they accidentally turn 2 pages or make the sheet fall because of their speed…

"Never blame the spotter." I like that, more people need to apply that to not only gymnastics and such, but in other jobs, too. If there is a person that is meant to keep you from injury or injuring someone else while doing something dangerous or being in a position in which you aren't able to secure and stop yourself, don't ever blame them if they make the wrong move. Would you like to slam your face/arms/heels into a metal rod, or have one bit of routine messed up because your spotter thought you might get injured, even if you don't think you would have?

It is weird cuz after 20 years of coaching it is almost a reflex and at times I see the athlete moving in slow motion. I am 36 years old and did gymnastics (lvl 9 when I got hurt) for 23 years 8 of which were competitive. I've done Thomas saltos and triple full layouts. My best event was and still is fx and my worst is PH.

Never blame a spotter if you almost did a skill and then moved the mat in because they don’t want you to get hurt so they sometimes move it just in case

I can se why it’s important not to blame the spotter Their goal is to protect you from serious injury, and though they may mess up your tricks from time to time, they save you from injury a significant amount aswell. Getting upset with your spotter if they mess up or make the wrong call can lead them to be more cautious with sliding out the mat and cold result in them not sliding when they should, resulting in injury. Felt like over explaining that, and honestly mad props for bringing it up in the video. It’s super important

I always have this habit of helping people when I see they might get injured (I jump in to spot them often) and a lot of people take it the wrong way sadly. I had to let a guy get injured because I knew he'd get mad if I helped. Its so sad when someone gives you an attitude when you are trying to be caring.

As a gymnast, seeing you hit your heels on the bar makes me cringe even if there is a mat, I just done that to many times. And yes I totally agree, I'm very thankful for my coaches who has saved me to many time. (I don't know how I'm a gymnast being so clumsy, lol)
