We have just come back from a visit to Namibia. I grew up there but haven't been back for a while, and people in the tourist areas are so rude! I couldn't believe it, several times we asked questions and they just looked away, it was almost funny. We're white, and both black and white people did this, so not a rascist thing. In fact even 2 guys in a white bakkie, and we drive a white bakkie, like farmers everywhere. So strange, but we loved our trip. Just btw, the first people there were Namas, so they wouldn't be happy with you claiming their land i dont think 💕

I am a South African living in Canada. I just want to let you and your hubby know how proud I am of you, and also admire how brave you are. Your spirit of adventure is remarkable. I know for sure there is no chance in hell that I can even attempt half of what you guys are doing. I am not an outdoorsy person and admire those of you who are. I've lived in Namibia for almost 22 years, and never got used to the treatment given me as a foreigner. But, there are some really good Namibians out there and I appreciate their kindness.

That's why people always say South Africans are too friendly, I get it. I am glad you showing us that it's possible to travel as Black people, and explore instead of just reading it in a book or internet. I love the way you being honest about your experience so that we don't shy away from people's behaviors in other countries and decide to not carry on the travel. I love seeing the dryness of Namibia the mountains looks like a breath of fresh air. Looking forward to more of these

This is the type of content we didn't know we needed, thanks to the Jawe Family and not to mention the social science, geography and tourism lessons in between...and Sadly, I also can't not mention that we carry our blackness everywhere we go, and this is proof that even our lives are experienced, sometimes daily, from this perspective...I worry for our future generations and always wonder, what is it that we can do about this, and unfortunately, there's very little we can do, especially when we realize that WE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM!

I am a Namibian fully and I am proud one. One thing is certain you can't go around the world and expect all to be as you are expecting. If you hear stories here and there for example South Africa on a negative side is that it's a country of high crime rate but you can go into South Africa and you won't fall a victim of any sort of crime. So what happen to you is unfortunate but is not that all is like that with Namibia/Namibians not at all, you just happen to be unfortunate that it happen to you . We are a country by far of peace and friendly people.

Hey Yolz, this vlog is something else. So we went to Namibia in 2019 by car and had similar experiences but nothing that going camping in the Kruger National Park in MP as a black child or visiting Cape Town/EC as a tourist did not prepare me for. What made our experience in Namibia better is us forcing locals to interact with us. In Windhoek, the locals gave us great tips to explore the city. And in Swakopmund, we sought out culture by going to the local kasi and having local food at tarvens and what an awesome experience!!! There was warmth and generosity. I also loved how the Himba people owned space against a structural exclusive environment. That's the beauty of travel, soaking up a country from a local's perspective. Don't let this experience deter you from visiting the country again, there are pockets of excellence. Safe travels to you and the family ❤

Spent a month overlanding Namibia and never had any negative experiences with any locals or foreign visitors....quite the opposite actually.

Travel has one unexpected consequence, that you soon figured out. South Africans truly are a diverse, but friendly and hospitable bunch. Experiencing such beautiful scenery, I am sure, more than made up for the unfriendliness of some of the locals. I truly pray that your beautiful child will one day inherit a better world, a world where all are cherished and respected. Keep challenging those who would deny us all such a life. I was in Cape Town a few months ago and to be honest the experience I had was the opposite of what you received in Namibia I never for a second felt out and the people where very friendly.

I’m from eswatini, got married in Namibia and have been living here in Namibia for over 10 years and I must say, the first thing that shocked me was how people don’t respond to greetings. Sadly, I have adjusted to just walk past a person because I got tired! On the other hand, my husband is into over-landing and we are black, and he receives overwhelming love from white people, we have done the garden route in SA and let me tell you, every breakfast we went, we were the only blacks other than the service staff…we received stares whenever we walked into the restaurant but we chose not to focus on that and we had the most beautiful experience and we would do the garden route over and over again. Namibia is a beautiful country and you should want to visit again, it’s a pity when u were in solitare you didn’t turn right and go to sossessvlei, each part of the country offers a different experience, we travel in the country and every experience has been different. I’m sorry for your experience, don’t write the country off. ( FYI, I am keen to watch how you experienced Botswana because my God, my experience with them they will insist on speaking their language EVEN when u tell them you don’t understand and they’ll be so rude)-every country is different… of course South Africa is amazing with being hospitable, but someone somewhere has a different opinion ❤

I am a Namibian and had some horrible experiences traveling in my own country.I notice most times hotels and restaurants staff just don’t give us the same treatment as white people.Last year December we went to a very beautiful place here with my girls and everytime we jumped in the pool all them white people got out.The first time we thought it was a coincidence,but we went back in the pool twice and they got out again.We took advantage of the whole situation and enjoyed that pool.😂😂 I really hope you would be able to give Namibia another chance some day ,as that experience alone doesn’t represent the whole country 🇳🇦❤️

Im Namibian and i totally agree with the bad service in the Tourism industry but the service in Namibia is super bad even in super markets. I hope this vlog is shared and please tag those restaurants also and the Namibian Tourism board 🙏🏾 we need to change for better

I’ve been to Namibia many years ago and I thought the cold stares (since they were from both white and black people) were as a result of the difficulty that exists in the country and I really paid no mind. Sorry but I can not believe this. Our country is well known for its friendliness and helpfulness. I do not believe that all people looked at you having any racist intentions or thoughts. I just think they are not used to black tourists in the south but more to European tourists visiting namibia.Our travelers are mainly international tourists. I strongly believe that the other white travelers were tourists who haven’t seen many black tourists on their trip. Or staff member who are more used to international tourists. And that they were looking at you in interest and not with racist intentions . Also I do NOT believe that people were thinking you stole your rental car. I think it was just unusual for them to see black people in a rental car with a roof tent. Here in namibia all my back friends travel with their own 4x4 and very seldom they have a roof tent. If they travel in namibia they seldom camp but rather stay in a lodge In a fixed accommodation. My oshiwambo friend explained to me that camping is not a “black culture “ thing. And I believe her. I have never seen black friends camp and also have never seen my black friends rent a car with roof tent. I am very sorry that you felt this way, but maybe it was more your inner uncomfortableness in between all international white tourists than the others having racist thoughts. Namibia is actually a very good hearted place! A bit unprofessional sometimes but good hearted

I think as a white South African , Namibians are a bit tired of South Africans. So many have moved there and driven prices up for locals. I have been there over a dozen times but not for over 20 years and they were friendly back then but Im told by a few sources it has changed in this respect. It was odd to see the Ariamsvlei border post has not changed. Being Black at overland vaction spots makes you a bit of an oddity. I have travelled extensively in Southern Africa and as a White I was an oddity in many places. Some are welcoming, some not only not friendly but even hostile. Don't take it personally , even the dogs in some areas seem to think a White should not be here and obviously the other way as well. People are often weary of the unknown. I always say people if given the opportunity should travel. You obviously learn about others but but you learn about yourself and what your own oddities are that you never even knew or conciderd were not universal.

I’m a Namibian, and also a content creator , although I’ve mostly travelled through Europe and Asia , I can say that one thing I’ve noticed about being home is that waiters especially can be quite rude to black people and nicer to white people. I think it’s because they believe white people will give them more tips. But again, it all depends on where you go, and whether it’s an upper class resort/ hotel. But that’s not to say it’s all people, if anything I find Namibians to be quite friendly if not amongst the friendliest people in all of Africa. Can’t say the same about Europe , busy with my 3 months tour there and boy…It made me appreciate Africa more! Despite the few rude people, Africans are so much nicer! 😓😓😓

2 Namibians were killed in S.A last month. This month, a Namibian in South Africa had his eyes pulled out. Literally ripped out of his sockets. He was going to buy stock for his order with me business. He wasn’t planning to stay. He was gonna come back home.

Oftentimes when we ask God for things we have an idea in mind what it might look like or even the why behind it. But it isn't until you take that leap of faith that God reveals more of the plan to you. I have no doubt that your journey will make many uncomfortable but they will be exposed to a new way of thinking and seeing things and people. They will be impacted dearly by their crossing of paths with you. In my church there is a song that says "Ntate roma nna dichabeng, ga ke fitlha ke go rapele" which means Father send me to your nations that I might praise you there. So sorry you had bad experience. My partner and I were traveling in Namibia end of August and had a great time. We did not make any bookings as we were camping. There were a lot of foreigners visiting . We traveled from Cape Town. Enjoyed Swakopmond and Kolmanskop.
