Most men aren't the subject of unwanted sexual attention in every day settings so they don't understand how violating it can be. It puts women in a no-win situation, because they know their managers wouldn't take their side and that they wouldn't be able to stick up for themselves, without being accused of getting too emotional.

"Unwanted sexual attention". That sounds very entitled. No man can know whether their sexual attention is wanted or not, until AFTER they approach women. If women are not willing to approach men, do not complain about unwanted sexual attention. Im not talking about repeated pestering of course, but thats not what you said.

@@sguraya7223 Unwanted sexual attention is just that and natural. The fuck is wrong with you. That is my entitlement. YOU or any other male has no rights to me or my body period but y’all have this sense of entitlement as if you are owed any kind of response at all. Not interested means just that. Mind your business and leave folks alone.

She really explains it well at 1:57 when she asks if you've been told you're too emotional. Most people who have not experienced sexual harassment don't understand this. They may have never experienced the powerlessness one feels when confronted with a comment from someone who holds power over you. They don't understand that it is emotional. They say things like, "Why are you taking it so personally?" or "Don't be so emotional. They don't get that sometimes speaking out and making complaints makes life much worse when the person you're complaining about has power over you. You could lose your job, your credibility, your husband may not believe you, your friends may think you're making a big deal out of nothing, other women may feel like you're just too sensitive and emotional because ALL women deal with this. Sexual harassment victims feel like they can't win no matter what... so they stay silent (and hide their emotion)... UNTIL NOW #PreventSexualHarassment #EncouragingEquityatWork #RespectinTheWorkplace

It's horrible how many woman blame woman for not speaking but no one knows what that woman went through during her childhood or teen years. They may have had sexual abuse and it hurts to speak about it and have to deal with this as an adult woman.

Hard to concentrate on the discussion because memories of my own encounters with sexual harassment at work, reported and unreported, flooded my mind. It's a nightmare when it happens & a terror to experience the backlash when you complain but very little is done to eliminate it.
@multuminparvo5

Back when I was married, if I told my husband about it (wanting a male's advice on how to best deal with it), he would accuse me of causing it to happen and bring it up whenever he chose to physically assault me. I haven't heard people talking yet about the backlash that can happen at home and in the community, but it can happen there just like it does in the workplace.

One of my last jobs at a supermarket, sexual harassment made the younger female cashiers feel on edge, mostly because of the creepier older guys. The express lane would have mostly older guys that looked creepy, and I referred to this line as the perv line. I would give the creepy guys the crossed arms and look of intimidation to scare them away. If I were the store manager, I wouldn't put up with it either and would probably end up banning a lot of these creepy older men, if they ever got on the wrong side. I would've particular banned a older guy who asked out one of the younger cashiers, who was a college student out for dinner. She politely declined, and this guy stood there and stared her down and gave her a menacing look on the way out. She was scared and a coworker ended up driving her home. As a PT sales associate, I didn't even have the authority to tell customers to leave the store, even though there were times where their behavior towards our female staff was unacceptable.

HR works for the employer, so they will have bias. Eventually, your employer will find an excuse to fire you for reporting the sexual harassment. The best thing to do is to file a police report because that is a sworn statement and a legal document. Then quit your job and seek legal counsel to sue your employer and/or the perpetrator.

It's bad enough that it happens, but when you have to stay silent to keep your reputation and job and keep working in an unhealthy environment, I'm sure it takes it's toll. I thought when the RCMP had the big scandal a couple years ago and the MeToo movement started taking off, it would change, but apparently not. I'm watching W5's The Tarnished Badge and the police force is still very toxic. What irks me more is the NDA's. That only silences the parties, it doesn't fix the problem but rather allows it to continue. I am sure many above and around Cosby, Weinstein,, Moonves,... knew what was going on, so they should be held accountable too. Then maybe things would change. What a disgusting world we live in.

Wow, I'm happy more women are coming forward and speaking up about workplace harassments, and other misconducts. I live and work in Canada. I went through 1 year of Sexual harassmenst, bullying, harassments, retaliation and discrimination with my previous employer. I file complains with HR and they said they would investigate it, but nothing became of it. This was my full-time job and my only means of income, and I was injured on the job, so I was on W.S.I.B (workplace safety and insurance board) who was taking care of my Physio Therapy sessions....etc and on top of that I was dismiss from my job, because I couldn't work the way I use to anymore, so I was useless. Some may say, why didn't you get a Lawyer and fight your employer, it's easier said than done. Lawyers are hours in Canada, so I would have to pay $300+ for consultation + $300+ hours. In USA Lawyers are flexible and they work on contengences, hours.....etc It's tough being a victim and it's tough going up against cooperations..

When I took to wearing shorts in a Hospital as a general Porter, I was subjected to sexual taunts on a daily basis, from a lot of female staff members some of which seemed to think it was appropriate to pinch and stroke my legs. I was subjected to derogatory remarks from the nursing staff and female patients. I shrugged it off as any man would. I had no wish to make political capital of it. It is impossible to for a man to judge what is and what is not appropriate when dealing with women in the work place. .

@@vango4307 Murdered women, children, and men, are not the result of the patriarchy. And the great degree of liberty and safety (yknow, the very thing that minimizes murdered women, children, and men) that we enjoy in this society is also a direct result of a semi-patriarchal system (although the only society that falls under patriarchy in the truest sense of the world would be the Republic of Rome, and maybe Victorian England). Patriarchy tends to correlate heavily with safety in a society. While the more motherly a society becomes, the more disenfranchised the young men (a la Taxi Driver) and the more anti-social they become, snd then the more violent they become. Obviously patriarchy has its own set of flaws, as matriarchy does too, but neither should be smashed, it makes more sense to maintain a balance between the two because thats the type of society our minds are best wired to function in.

I didn't hit on her because i saw it but what about the next person? She took the ring off and this seemed to be what was going on with her and the company was already riddled with all kinds of sexual harassment allegations where they had to have training on it every few months. But did i really see that? Im not about feminism either life male/ female evolved together and thats scientific fact. No need for anyone to have a battle of the sexes.

In order to be sexual harassment it has to be Severe OR Pervasive AND create a hostile work environment OR be a quid pro quo - this for that. You’re fine to hit on your perverted coworkers one time. It’s when it becomes about intimidation that it becomes a problem, or you just won’t stop.

Re: Sexual Harassment; Being referred to as a "girl, doll, babe or honey" is not necessarily a bad thing. A female boss once put her hand on the small of my back and I felt like "Oh, she's looking for a date after work"! Without words it was established that I bareley acknowledged this and I just kept working without incident or further persuit. Women that I don't even know have called me "honey, sweetheart, sugar, etc" at the local Dollar General. The problem is eventualized on any side of the coin when the fear of losing your job is implied if a date etc is refused. The question becomes "How do you meet someone inside the workplace? I suppose the answer is "by being a gentleman", that way the mutual respect is not lost. Once mutual respect is established then you may have a chance at a date! R. Youngblood
