I'm absolutely fascinated with these sheep. I've watched vlogs where they calmly stand watching you clean the pens using the big bucket. I've seen Kinsey licking their ears and they stand calmly letting her. All the things that I would expect them to react unfavourably towards, they take in their stride. Put a puddle in the barn and it freaks them out! 😁 Really enjoying the vlogs. You do so much work with your sheep, I sometimes wonder how you manage.

Sandi take a permanent marker and write the date you changed the oil filter on the filter! That way you will always know when it was last changed! Heck you should do this for all of your equipment! It’s quick and reliable record keeping! You can also write the mileage too! It’s not just sheep that will refuse to walk through a puddle! Try convincing a 1200# horse that it’s not going to swallow you whole! Have one that in his youth would walk right into a raging river no problem but the slow quiet stream must be balked at for at least 5 minutes before imitating a deer and jumping in! However once he was in you had to keep him moving or he would drench you! Funny thing is that we couldn’t have a stock tank as he would climb right in and take a bath!

Interesting about the wet floor... A lot of us know of the 23rd Psalm... but many don't know the significance of a particular passage... You talk about your sheep and water... How they don't trust what they see... Well the passage I'm referring to says... "He lead them beside the still waters"... Most people don't know that sheep are deathly afraid of fast moving water... like a stream... They can't relax... They're fearful... It's in their nature... That instinctive need to feel safe... In many ways we're the same... We need those "still waters" so we can relax and feel safe too... Just a thought... Love the videos!!

Good morning Sandi, I'll add another reason to your list. The matriarch of the flock stops to eat ditch grass and the flock runs up a neighbor's driveway into her flower beds. Unhappy neighbor. We move pasture to pasture about every 4 to 6weeks. We put the guardian dogs out front ahead of the flock. The little dogs guide the flock forward out the gate. The matriarch is Myrtle and she has collar with sheep bell. She knows where we are going left right because she has done this hundreds of times. Once the girls get to the guardian dogs we release them with whistle. They know the routine too. Any way Myrtle stops to munch and everybody runs for the flower beds. We move the flock with four wheelers that we now carry orange snow fencing on and quick fence posts, to block driveways before we move anybody.

Sometimes what happens with the recoil on the Honda's is that the end of the recoil spring that is in the center (it has a little bend on it that hooks to the recoil housing) breaks off. You can rewind the spring and it will work for a few pulls but with use or vibration the spring will unwind its self because it is not hooked up in the center. At this point you can do one of two things, 1, you can buy a new spring or 2, you can take a torch and heat the end of the spring orange red and bend a new "hook" and then reinsert the hook into the slot that will stop the spring from unwinding. Good luck.
@sidewinder666666
@sidewinder666666 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good call. Once you've heated and bent the end, it's a good idea to heat it up again and then quench it in water to re-harden it. I've had them "unbend" if I didn't do that.

Sandi - Thanks for helping me learn new things about the care of sheep today. As a pastor, there are places in Scripture where sheep are used as a teaching example about people, and boy is that true (I too have stories). Your sharing about them not liking puddles of water was very enlightening for me. I've used the idea of quiet water vs. rushing water in terms of what sheep like, but I didn't realize they shy away from puddles in general. The other thing I have begun to notice, is that sheep are a bit skittish (when you approach them), but they are also pretty curious, so they quickly come back if you hold still. Works that way with some people also. Thanks so much for all you do to share with us who know so little.

That is an insane amount of sheep! I remember when we had 26 and I was the only one who knew them apart lol. When you can work hard on your own and do lots of 'un-girly' things sometimes your husband thinks you can do everything and then you suddenly remind him you can't, hence the annoyance. I know the feeling lol. I am enjoying your videos so much.

Since Mark does your equipment work so well you may not need this advice, but when I got to be 65 I had electric start put on my snow blower and my big grass mower. They still have have the pull cord if they die in the far corner of of my property but I decided old ladies need to pamper themselves a bit. You do have to plug them in but when it is 25 degrees below zero, USA the snow blower can be really difficult. If it stops later (Usually because I did not top off the gas ) it is warmed up and then will start on first pull. I do not consider you old but all the little bits of energy you can save you can use for more important things. like bottle babies and making videos and even taking care of yourself. Your energy and love of what you do are so much fun to watch, THANK YOU.

Only found your channel a few days ago, and I can’t stop watching! We have a few horses On a freinds farm who has cows, pigs, and sheep. In 2019 I was finally able to lamb my first sheep! Loving the videos! Xx

Aren't they addictive? The number of people who've commented that they've been binge watching (myself included)... And how many more just haven't commented? Welcome to Sandi's Flock of Followers.

Horses often wont walk in puddles as well, I heard they avoid it because they cannot see how deep the water is / if there is a hole under the waters surface

Some horses will lay down in puddles...even with rider and saddle on. My mother had one of those years ago. 😂

@@krat5576 actually, I thought it was hilarious because he did it when I was riding him. My mother wasn't finding any humor in it because her saddle was getting soaked. 😂

TIM from Ontario Canada if you have any machines that are looking like this messy full of feed cobwebs and search other things in there... suggestions leaf blower wheel clean out pretty much anything... if you do this outside you will not have any mess to clean up on the inside... if it is possible to take everything outside make sure that you were using a leaf blower that has batteries these are charged... if you are using a leaf blower that runs off of extension cord make sure your cords are long enough to reach your equipment... you would be amazed at what a leaf blower can do in such little time.. this is mostly beneficial if you are using a grease gun this way your grease nipples are clean of debris...

Hi Sandi if you could get those red flags that are on a stick that the construction guys wave you through their road construction it would be a great help where moving the sheep and are closed in area like that. Additionally if you move them really quickly and kind of snapped them they make a loud flapping sound and the sheep or move away from them. We use Border Collies and flags and it helps if you’re not just pushing on the back ones just make a cut on some of the front ones and use your gates to make a small crowding area close to the shoot and then start work in that small group and remember Sheep follow Sheep so get some leaders cut off and then the bigger group should be easer to move to the chute area. I think you’re right Mark might have be just a touch grumpy when you asked him to leave what he was doing on the tractor to help with your project.

Thanks I learned the hard way I’ve been a sheep and goat guys since the late 1970s. As always I’m a big fan of both You and Mark. Also it helps if you throw a few flakes of alfalfa chum in the pen close to the chute.

I LOL at ‘they think it’s a black hole.’ I don’t know why it tickled me so much as I know that water means more work for you. I total understand the husband/wife dynamic issue. My husband and I will be married 40 years this Nov. 2021. We rarely argue spending much of our time making each other laugh but certain projects being done TOGETHER, especially in my time frame when my husband had to be given a push by me when I know better...its let him get to it when he’s ready, is a bad idea.
