Why Would Anybody Do ASSISTED Jumps!? 🤔🤓

Assisted jumps! But why would you do this? The simple answer is to build explosiveness with NO LIMITS!
The force-velocity curve dictates the differing blends of FORCE and VELOCITY that must be present to complete a movement successfully. A maximal squat is all force production, whereas a maximal vertical jump is a blend of force production and speed where the more quickly force can be produced the faster the body will travel at ground release and the higher it will go.
If you want to improve these explosive physical qualities then you must improve the ENTIRE force-velocity curve, otherwise you'll quickly hit a ceiling. The simplest way to think of it is like this from top to bottom: heavy squats, Olympic lifts and weighted jumps of varying weights, unloaded vertical jumps, and then assisted jumps, as shown here, which would be similar to overspeed training for a sprinter. These 4 categories of exercises would cover pretty much the entire spectrum.
By working the whole spectrum like this you could theoretically positively shift your force-velocity curve forever and build unlimited explosive power. The assisted jumps are just a piece of the puzzle. They aren't any kind of end all be all. But they do have a great value in the grand scheme of things and they're just plain fun as well!

Been training all those aspects of the curve concurrently for a few months now, so I can't really isolate the benefits of the assisted jumps out of the pot, but I think they would be a worthwhile addition even just for the fun of the feeling of weightlessness and the extra air time which is a blast!

No need to isolate the variables unless you have a glaring weakness imo. If your strength qualities are well rounded then just focus on all aspects and progress will continue indefinitely!

Quick question: Do you then do these jumps on the same day as your legday/ heavy squats? And if so how many reps and sets? Or do you do a full plyometrics day for legs with only bodyweight and band assisted exercises?

I see the benefit in having band tension as and before you leave the floor. Is there also a reason for still pulling with your hands once you are in the air, or does it just "feel" better this way.

A large part of what Im doing here is A. Making sure I don't hit my head on the pullup bar, and B. making sure I don't hit my head on the ceiling lol. Outside of that I'm just focusing on exploding through the legs as much as possible. Basically, don't worry too much about the extra noise here. My setup for performing these is not ideal and because of that some other stuff just kind of "happens" to go along with the actual movement.
