I have no problem with Ellen White's writings but I sometimes wonder if it is the lesser light why is it that most preachers and pastors can no longer stand and preach for 30 minutes without quoting Ellen White. Some quote Ellen White more than they quote the Bible. This in a way seems like Ellen White's writings have replaced the Bible.

What drew me to Ellen White's writings is her insistence on the authority of Scripture and her love for Christ. By that Word we are to be judged. God has, in that Word, promised to give visions in the ‘last days’; not for a new rule of faith, but for the comfort of His people, and to correct those who err from Bible truth. Thus God dealt with Peter when He was about to send him to preach to the Gentiles.”-Early Writings, 78. “When God’s Word is studied, comprehended, and obeyed, a bright light will be reflected to the world; new truths, received and acted upon, will bind us in strong bonds to Jesus. “The Bible, and the Bible alone, is to be our creed, the sole bond of union; all who bow to this Holy Word will be in harmony. “Our own views and ideas must not control our efforts. Man is fallible, but God’s Word in infallible. Instead of wrangling with one another, let men exalt the Lord. Let us meet all opposition as did our Master, saying, ‘It is written.’ Let us lift up the banner on which is inscribed, The Bible our rule of faith and discipline.” The Review and Herald, December 15, 1885 (Selected Messages 1:416.)

For many false prophets have gone out everywhere." Question: Are you willing to Test your own prophet? If so check out the series "Test the Prophet" here on KZfaq. The problem with many seventh day adventists is that her inspired words struck some cherished idol in their lives and so they rather choose to discredit her than to renounce their idol.

I was born and raised Adventist, and although her writings weren't a huge part in my upbringing, she was always in the background. Now that i'm older, i see now how much EGW writings are used today. Preachers and pastors always quote that she was "the lesser light" yet her writings take centre stage during sermons, or if theres a form of debate, a paragraph of hers would be brought before someone and it was to be taken as gospel. So i began to ask, "Why isnt the Bible enough?" and now, I only read the Bible and the Bible alone, and i'm so much happier for it. Dont make the same mistake many are making in trusting in her. There's alot more than meets the eye when it comes to Ellen White, and i urge everyone to look deeper and more closer into her writings and her life itself.

By God's Amazing Grace we are blessed with this woman of faith, her writings inspired by God. The Great Controversy is one of them. I encourage anyone to get a hold of this book and start reading. May the Almighty God of Jeremiah 33:3 bless you as you read. Don't forget, it does not replace the authority of the Precious Holy Bible.

Over 20% of the great controversy was plagiarized in the parts that were original to Ellen White tell about a Jesus, who is not equal with God she completely denies the Trinity and she denies the deity of Jesus Christ claiming he was a created being who God promoted to equality with himself, but was created as an archangel on equal footing with Lucifer This is nowhere found in Scripture. It is satanic.

I respect the free expression of religion, but Ellen White and the SDA religion as a whole contradicts the Bible in so many ways. “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:6-9 Edit: I’m happy that you have something to believe in. I just don’t agree that you are Christians.

I agree she was a prolific writer, (and became very wealthy in the process) but my question is this....Isn't there a passage in the Bible where Jesus clearly states that no one is to add or take away from what is written in the Bible? By "adding" her self-proclaimed prophecies isn't she going directly against what JESUS says in the Bible. By creating teachings that are outside of the Bible, then it's not OF the Bible. If we read and really study the Bible, where is the need for outside sources? (example: The Book of Mormon)

Hello, Kate! We really appreciate you for engaging with us, especially on these posts. We would like to share with you how Ellen White places herself and her writings above the Bible. She say's, "I recommend to you, dear reader, the Word of God as the rule of your faith and practice. By that Word we are to be judged. God has, in that Word, promised to give visions in the “last days”; not for a new rule of faith, but for the comfort of His people, and to correct those who err from Bible truth (Ellen White, Early Writings (Washington, D.C.: Review and Herald Publishing Association, 1882), 78)."

From what I read in EGW 's original books, she referred to the Bible as a direct link to God, and that her writings should only be used as a means to encourage and motivate people to pick their Bibles more often. She did not want her books to be used as doctrinal reference material nor to be quoted in public. Evidence has been shown, the hierarchy of the SDA General Conference did not like her original books and re-edited what she wrote to achieve a different outcome.

Why would you put your faith biblical interpretation in a woman from the 1800’s, when we have 2,000 years of incredible church fathers and leaders to rely upon? If you believe the table of contents of the New Testament is accurate, then the church who assembled the Bible must be inspired by the Holy Spirit. In this same time frame (and earlier) we have Apostolic Succession, liturgical worship, real presence in the Eucharist, defining of original sin, sacraments, etc.

What draws me to Ellen White's writings is her insistence on the authority of Scripture and her love for Christ. Ellen White wrote, "There is nothing more calculated to energize the mind and strengthen the intellect than the study of the Word of God." CSA 69.2 She further says, "When a real love for the Bible is awakened, and the student begins to realize how vast is the field and how precious its treasure, he will desire to seize upon every opportunity for acquainting himself with God's word." [Ibid] She says, "The religion of the Bible is the *ONLY* safeguard." CG 480.3 [Emphesis mine] *"The Word of God is the great detector of error;* to it we believe everything must be brought. *The Bible must be our standard for every doctrine.* We must study it reverentially. *We are to receive no one's opinion without comparing it with the Scriptures. Here is divine authority, which is supreme in matters of faith.* Christ Triumphant 331.3 "The Bible was not written for the scholar alone; on the contrary, *it was designed for the common people. The great truths necessary for salvation are made as clear as noonday; and none will mistake and lose their way except those who follow their own judgment instead of the plainly revealed will of God."* SC 89.2

So Dirk Anderson is a Seventh-day Sabbatarian, but he has serious issues with this false Sunday law notion that Adventists push to vigorously. His book *National Sunday Law: Fact or Fiction?* is available for free online. Here is a quote from it: "Teachings such as the National Sunday Law are deceptive. They take the focus off of the real issues of Christianity, and the real persecutions that are taking place around the world. Instead, they focus the attention upon future events that are unlikely to ever take place. While other Christians are following Christ's command to take the gospel into all the world, a number of Seventh-day Adventists spend their time and effort trying to convince other Christians that a Sunday law is going to be passed and they need to start keeping the Sabbath in order to be one of the remnant that is saved when Christ returns. One SDA pastor spends his time traveling around the world, visiting SDA churches in order to share with people the "bad news" about coming Sunday laws. This type of activity is not only a complete waste of time and effort, but it is also a direct disobedience of Christ's command for Christians to take the "good news" of salvation-not the "bad news" of fear-into all the world (Mark 16:15)."

@@322doug So SDAs do this with every world crisis. Again, Dirk Anderson points out in his *National Sunday Law: Fact or Fiction?* : "Since the late 1800s, Seventh-day Adventists have seen the arrival of this universal Sunday law in every crisis. Each time, they suppose that this "crisis" will be the one that finally brings in Sunday legislation. For well over a century, any world crisis-whether it be the COVID pandemic, or climate change, or the world trade center bombing-is seen as the trigger mechanism that convinces lawmakers to abandon all reason and bow down to the papacy and institute a National Sunday Law. However, each time, the crisis fades and the National Sunday Law conspiracy never materializes. Then, they start looking for the next crisis. I have personally witnessed this pattern for decades. These people live in a constant state of paranoia." COP27 ends tomorrow. There will be no Sunday law mandate.

@@322doug Most Adventists seem to miss the point that their Sunday law doctrine is very damaging to the unity of the body of Christ. Rather than promote love and understanding between those of different faiths, these teachings create fear and suspicion. How can a Seventh-day Adventist have fellowship with a Sunday-keeper whom they suspect is secretly planning to pass laws to torture and kill them? This false doctrine divides by creating an artificial adversarial relationship between Sabbath-keepers and Sunday-keepers. The SDA "enemy" is not the world; rather, it is the non-SDA denominations. Sadly, the SDA sect has made out all Sunday-keeping churches to be the enemy. This promotes hatred and suspicion amongst believers, not love and peace. The National Sunday Law serves only one purpose. It generates fear. Most Sunday-keeping Christians would probably be shocked and outraged if they were told that Seventh-day Adventists teach that Sunday-keepers are going to be involved in persecuting Sabbath-keepers and restricting their freedom of religion. Most Sunday-keeping Christians would be appalled at any such action. They would most certainly fight against any legislation that would infringe upon the religious freedoms of other Christians. Also It is economically impossible in this country, not to mention the rest of the world. Imagine the chaos that would result from such a law. Businesses and factories would have to be shut down on Sunday. The United States would suffer irreparable economic harm. The reduction in work hours would probably drive many businesses to move overseas. Imagine a U.S. police force that can barely keep up with chasing real criminals, trying to cope with forcing the 150 million people who do not worship on Sunday to start worshipping on Sunday! (this would include all other non-Christians and atheists). Imagine a U.S. prison system, that is already filled to the brim, trying to handle millions upon millions of new prisoners. Imagine the terrible economic impact of taking millions of hard-working individuals out of the work-force, putting them in prison, where they must be clothed and fed by tax-payers. The economic and social impact of this scenario would bankrupt the United States, both financially and morally. The Sunday law is supposedly going to start nationally in the United States and be enforced on the other nations eventually. What about the rest of the world? Christians account for less than one third of the global population. Who is going to enforce Sunday worship on the two billion Friday-worshipping Moslems? What about the three billion Hindus, Buddhists, and other eastern religions? Who is going to make them start observing Sunday? What about the billion secularists, agnostics, and atheists? Who is going to make them worship anything at all? Is one to believe that the United States is strong enough to not only force its own people to worship on Sunday, but also force the entire world to do likewise? The entire world witnessed the great difficulty the United States had in trying to control the tiny nation of Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021. After futilely attempting to maintain control over that nation, the United States left in defeat. If the United States cannot even maintain order in this one small nation, then how is it going to control the entire world? (Most comments above are from Dirk Anderson's *National Sunday Law: Fact or Fiction?* available for free online)

What a blessing her writings are to those who read them. I’ve found them to be a source of comfort and help during the time of need. As 1 Thessalonians 5:20 tells us not to despise prophesying, because as Amos 3:7 says that the Lord will do nothing, but he reveals his secrets to the prophets who in turn makes them known to His glorious church. This is what Sister White has done. By no means did she ever suggest that her writings take the place of the living Word of God. Furthermore, who are we to determine or suggest how and where the Lord led her to gather those things made known to her for His people. I am so thankful to Him for having led me to her writings and the SDA church. I give Him all the glory and praise!

One cannot go wrong with the KJV alone, but it does take time to search it out. According to linguistic experts the KJV is at about a grade 5-6 reading level. Do we need other books? Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Terry. We truly appreciate your insights. Yes, In Ellen G. White’s own view, her writings, when compared with Scripture, were a “lesser light to lead men and women to the greater light”, the Bible (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, January 20, 1903). Her writings are never a shortcut to or replacement for any serious Bible study. In fact, she comments: “You are not familiar with the Scriptures. If you had made God’s word your study, with a desire to reach the Bible standard and attain to Christian perfection, you would not have needed the Testimonies. It is because you have neglected to acquaint yourself with God’s inspired Book that He has sought to reach you by simple, direct testimonies”. - Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 2, p. 605.

Hi the first one to respond to me on this. An elder told me it was ok that the church teaches errors as long as it was not unto salvation. Because he couldn't justify errors being said in Sabbath school a church when I gave him biblical verses to the errors. My brother admitted that the Bible states doors an a vail is to enter the Most Holy place 1 kings 6:31 . So no vail ripped in side at Jesus's death . 1 kings 6 : 17, 33 tells us that Temple meaning is the Holy place 1 Chron 3 : 17 is a 2nd witness to the Temple meaning is the Holy place. Which means the vail is before the Holy place. All the accounts of the Temple in the Bible kings, Chronicles, Ezekiel 41:1-4 not one says that there is a vail to enter the Most Holy place they all say doors. What happened to Uzziah when entering the Temple to burn incense. In the new testament John 2:14-16 ,Luke 19:45,Mk 11:15 would these in the Holy place John 10:23 (and Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch) Sister White's writing is where the church says the blood of the daily sin offering is taken in side the temple an sprinkled before the Most Holy place . The Bible proves that wrong in Leviticus 4:22-35. My brother was wondering if in the new printing of her books thy changed it . She states that the bodies were thrown out of the graves when Jesus died then the next chapter she quotes the Bible. This is only a few. The church seems to try justify her writing then to take the Bible first. I would like to hear back on the verses. I was hoping my brother would look into it more and talk to his brother in-law Mark Finley but he just admitted that it wasn't in line with the Bible an not wanting to look into any more errors she has

The problem with this approach is that, by making EW the ultimate interpreter of Scripture, you vest on her a higher authority than in the the Bible itself. She can't be wrong on her interpretation, and she can't be challenged, so in practice she's the actual final authority. A more fruitful approach is to use her as an inspired yet fallible author, like many other saints of old.
@MatthewLittle2 жыл бұрын
I don't quite think that's what is being said here. Yes, Ms. White was human and thus entirely fallible in all her works she always made note to point innumerable times towards the Scriptures as the ultimate guide for how we are to live our lives. Not to her works but to the Bible.

You need her writing because your whole doctrine is based off of her approval of it it’s not in the Bible the great controversy not the investigation judgement. If you didn’t have her writings you’d have to channge a whole lot of your pillars of faith.

And yet our leaders demote her writing in 2015 , so how could we allow that to happen right in front of our eyes and no one speaks about it we need to wake up

Millions and millions have died without ever hearing about EGW. Will they be lost ?

Hello, Iyanola. Thank you for watching this video and sharing your thoughts with us. Regarding your question, we must recognize that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ and not from anybody else John 14:6. Hence, we believe that those who have died in their faith in Jesus will receive His promise in His soon return. May you remain faithful unto Him until the end, Iyanola.

The real question is why would God give the church the spirit of prophecy if it wasn't needed? Like it or not, sister white was given great insight to help the church prepare for translation.

I honestly think prophecy is preaching/declaring the word of God so limiting that to E G White means those who preach every sabbath have to read her books to the church,we dont have to pray for the preacher,etc.God still speaks thru various people today,without giving anyone a special tag

The spiritual gift of prophecy is an important way to be used by God. 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 describes it as a gift with particular usefulness and honor, saying “the person who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement, and consolation” and “builds up the church” (CSB). @@AdventistOrgChurch Isn't this what every preacher who comes up the pulpit every sabbath does?
@annjenkins39722 ай бұрын
Yes! The Bible is enough! No need for EGW, Watchtower, Book of Mormon, the Talmud, etc. Also, the Spirit of Prophesy is the Holy Spirit. To use that phrase the way SDAs do is blasphemy. Wisdom comes from the Holy Spirit, not EGW. “Come out of her, my people.”
