Many are hating on Wolverine and want him in a supporting role but they don't realize how important he was to the teams fame. This team was the most culturally diverse in Marvel. so it already looks like they are making a huge effort to clean up the storyline, they already fixed scott hooking up with a jean clone weeks after her death by not having the death and making maddy think she is jean. they are doing life and death with storm but are not using the aspect that had her get depowered by her lovers invention only to overcome the power loss and to get back with the guy who was the reason you got depowered(mirrors someone getting abused by a spouse healing than getting back with them)they are trimming the fat kind of like amazon is doing with invincible

I cancelled Disney+ after Moon Knight and just returned this month. Partly for X-Men 97 but mostly because Hulu had a deal to add Disney for just $2 extra dollars. I hope they decide to bring back Avengers Earth's Mightest Heroes next; that series was great!

I was going to pipe up in here to make a similar comment. Content mill creators gonna content, but it’s always been this way. Good writing and performances will attract audiences to lesser known characters like the Guardians regardless of their historical popularity. Bad storytelling will keep people away, even from more well known characters like…well most of what DC has done in the last 15 years.

Almost all of the MCU's new characters over the past few years were never much of a success in terms of comic book sales to begin with. The X-Men on the other hand are arguably WAY more popular in comics than the Avengers themselves and are eclipsed in Marvel sales only by Spidey. Wolverine on his own has driven more comic sales than Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, etc. If Disney doesn't F this up the MCU's best days could be still ahead of them.

I honestly think the idea that they haven't been popular because they're lower tier characters is a red herring excuse. It implies a lot of revisionist history that MOST of the currently popular MCU characters weren't also relatively unknown to the general public. Literally the only characters who had broad recognition with non-comic readers were Hulk, Spider-Man, and Captain America, and Spider-Man is the only one most people actually kind of know anything about. The problem is that they haven't been hiring talent or making creative decisions like they used to when the MCU used to work. Quality, professionalism, and good ideas have taken a backseat to things like "representation." For example, the guy who was put in charge of Moon Knight was given that show because he was Egyptian, not because he liked the character, not because he had a good idea for the story, not because he had any relevant experience that would suggest that he would be a good fit.

As animated series take longer to do than live action, X-men '97 season 1 was probably in the works way before the problems with the MCU, I don't think the two are connected. The X-men '97 crew probably just wanted to make sure they delivered the best product possible.

Marvel has been progressive always because Stan, Jack and many others were progressive. The fact that you get all upset and both sides it, is your deal. I am enjoying the new cartoons, and Marvel phase 4 spread itself too thin, but there were some truly great shows and movies in it and some truly triggered moderates and conservatives who never understood that comics as an art form, was a creation pioneered by Jewish children of immigrants, from Captain America and Superman (who were anti-fascist, and progressive populists) to X-Men to Spider-Man (who speak to civil rights for the marginalized and the ethics of working poor vs the rich and being responsible, JJJ?), has always been about the ethics of selflessness, equality and being a force for good beyond yourself and your family. The fact that these ideas are now considered extreme Left is sad as hell, and the fact that comics are only entertainment to some, folks who aren't inspired by the nuanced heroism of truly ethical yet complex characters is beyond me, but there are plenty of Star Trek fans that hate socialism, the very premise of the show. One generation's freedom fighter is just another generation's entertainment I guess. I enjoy your show, but get real, this isn't a both sides are good people deal. Be like Jack Kirby. Punch Nazis. Cheers. I like your show when you aren't talking about being moderate while history is being written.

Theres a difference here and the 2 dont match up stan would be horrified at whats going on now if he was still alive . You have bullies using special protected class status trying to force their beliefs on others and being straight up assholes to people for even asking questions . My dad grew up in the south during the civil rights era that was a proper fight for freedom people that looked like us couldnt even use facilities that whites could . This shit going on now is a bunch of children acting like victims that already have rights wanting things rigged in their favor and some went out committing crimes out of entitlement which is a huge setback to relations between whatever they are example that one girl lit up a school she deserves a spot in hell for what she did and im not even largely religious .

The pure joy that filled me when I saw the opening almost brought a tear to my eye. I'm so thankful that Disney managed to finally just let Marvel BE MARVEL instead of wrecking it with their politicised BS. We didn't want something new and groundbreaking, we wanted what has been called the second-best superhero cartoon of all-time (when you're second to Batman: TAS, that's nothing to be ashamed of). I'm north of 45 years old and I am completely in love with a cartoon show again. I am not the least bit ashamed by this. X-Men '97 is one of THE best shows on TV today, PERIOD! Modern audiences will still love this show because it's just a great show, all of the politics be damned!

What I like about the storytelling is that that didn’t have to do an origin story or background of every detail. Example is magneto and rogue already having history with each other in the savage land. Even though there isn’t a movie or cartoon that it happened in they’re still the comics that the comic readers would pick up on without actually having a scene on it

The trick is to touch on these subjects without pushing it too hard. The X-Men are doing it right so far. If it fits the character and the story and it's done right it can be very moving and still hit on all of the points you wanted to make. But it has to happen organically. Instead of having a character say that she's a badass woman and constantly reference the world of men all the time, you could just have a character like Sarah Connor who just WAS a female badass. She didn't have to talk about it. She stepped up as the ultimate female protagonist and we all knew.

Pffft... X-Men '97? Yeah, it did. But Marvel Animations are truly the ones who SAVED Marvel's ass! Before the mcu, we had Marvel Animations, who kept Marvel alive and made it feel absolutely special because of the animated projects it delivered. They based themselves around the comics, for those were their only inspirations. That was the Golden Age... until it was taken away from us when disney bought Marvel! When that dilemma happened, Marvel Animation's were taken into a basement, and it hybernated in that exact spot for DECADES until these sucka's decided to wake it up. The MCU and its content has so far gotten absolutely stale throughout these years because they're literally watered down Marvel stuff that can't really compare itself with the COMICS... in these days, they can barely capture the magic of what made Marvel SPECIAL when it came to the books. Marvel started to suffer. So then these guys decided to get Marvel Animations out of its chambers! Judging by the first two episodes of X-Men 97, it seems like Marvel Animations are grinning like demons becuase they KNOW that they're about to show every single one of yall on how THEY stand on *FREAKING* business... to show you all that they know how to run Marvel like a freaking dime, for they're not based around the MCU. These guys are honestly the only people to really save Marvel and make it feel special. That's their power.

The problem we run into all too often is the geekdom is very bipolar... you have one segment that is complaining that Marvel is too formulaic Wallace another segment is complaining that it's to diverse. Both of them don't seem to understand that this is a for-profit company that is trying to maximize profits... 🤦‍♂️ And both of them have already decided they won't like the new project because "it's bad" even before the project comes out. I see a lot of this online community acting like my child who tells me how much they don't like something even before they give it a chance...

Often, one's ideological bias will have one scene social structures in such a way that reinforces what they already want to believe... Ex. If a comedy, action, etc, movie has a predominantly Black cast, then it's often deemed as a black movie. But if a movie has a predominantly white cast, then it's just considered a movie... It's one's own unconscious biases that doesn't recognize how we tend to delineate these movies within our social structures.

Depends on what line was crossed and how bad it was . Certain instances things work out but it doesnt invalidate the statement for a few examples . Into the spiderverse had a clever way of presenting it that showed creativity and its loved while she hulks writers shit on fans and acted surprised that everyone didnt like them for it .

And let's also mention the fact that they addressed the team of Iceman Angel beast marvel girl and cyclops, I would love to see that team on the big screen as well at some point not just having them as second rate also ran mutants but the heroes they were in the comics as a real team

To be fair. Marvel probably felt like they did this with Gradians of the Galaxy but ALSO Ironman, Thor, and Captain America too. So their plan was to take lesser known Comic Books and elevate them as they did with Iron Man.. etc. Feige was trying to repeat the success he had with his original 3 Marvel movies, not so much GOG IMO.

If done faithfully for the fans and not by cash hungry pandering studio execs YES, It can and has the potential to bring marvel back. X-Men 92 had one of the best writing for its time but with extremely limited budget and thrifty animation. Recently Marvel had too much budget invested on bad writing = bad story telling. I truly hope that they don't drop the ball on our beloved characters.

Good or not, no single project will "save the MCU." ONLY consistent return to quality over time, as well as respect for the built in audience and for the established property (as opposed to antagonizing the audience and trying to make it something other than what people already liked about the property) will accomplish that, but this is a good start. I agree that all of these points are a good thing, though.

God can everyone just give MCU a rest, let it just be all X-Men. Like they've been forcing the entire idea that those individual heroes can be grouped together way too long already. X-Men is THE group and the superhero story that has the group format by default baked in. Why are we still trying to force Iron Man and Captain America to breathe on each other's necks, can they just die out and just get shelved at this point

Another point I want to make is that they should utilize this in the comics and whatnot to introduce the Inhumans again and have them be allies. Because having the mutants and Inhumans fight is very stupid. Instead of trying to replace the X-Men or the Inhumans, it's better to just have them exist together. They’re very alike and well-loved in the community.

She-Hulk and Love and Thunder really felt like a slap in the face to the cast, the characters, the fans, and previous movies and shows. She-Hulk whether people like it or not could have really be an incredible show and bring the MCU back to its roots and be more grounded. They nailed the casting! Tatiana Maslany is literal perfection for this role and a great get for the MCU with how incredibly talented she is. HOWEVER though the super hero Legal Drama show concept was a great idea they barely utilized it. Ontop of that the writers and directors had absolutely NO IDEA about this character, the MCU, nor how to write/direct for an action comedy. THEE MAJOR FAILURE was not the show being woke but rather the shows writing being really really awful! For one a comedy where 1 out of 25 jokes land is a really bad success rate. I understand they were also a little too heavy handed with all of the feminism stuff but I didn’t actually mind that until it got towards halfway or last third of the series. BUT THE BIGGEST FAILURE was that they just didn’t have any real clear story arc for the main character (they had them for Wong and Abomination). It felt like twice an episode after about episode 3 or 4 they changed the overarching main storyline. This is a real time writers room thought process for a single episode: Oh let’s do Titania…ok good idea yeah we don’t know what to do next let’s have a random encounter and move on to a double crossing Andrew Tate bro…ok that’s getting a little strange let’s move onto Daredevil and Abomination because we have to. Ok now let’s just randomly go back to Titania and then quickly forget she exists and go to the Tate Bro convention and I’m confused so let’s to use the fourth wall break as an excuse since we don’t know what we are doing nor how to wrap up the show. OH AND LETS MAKE THAT FOURTH WALL BREAK TWIST A JOKE THAT SPITS IN THE FACE OF ALL MCU FANS AND PEES ON THE ASHES OF EVERYTHING THEY LOVE ABOUT THE MCU BY MAKING IT ALL IN UNIVERSE MOVIES CREATED BY AN AI ROBOT FOR DISNEY TO MAKE AS MUCH PROFIT POSSIBLE. And Love and Thunder Taika didn’t want to make Marvel movies he just needed to make money and do something big enough to get a name for himself. So since he already got all of that he made the worst possible movie he could to have them fire him and not hold him to his contract. Which really sucks because Taika could have really done amazing things for the MCU. Thor Love and Thunder felt like a dagger in the back. I was soooo excited about that movie. Not only because it was bringing in Gorr, other gods from different cultures, but also bringing Natalie Portman back and as the epic as f*ck Jande Foster Thor. But it was such a let down. It’s like he thought of two jokes the training montage which they showed in the trailer and the goats which I think was his way of trying to be as annoying as he thinks MCU fans and the Marvel execs are. I just think he didn’t do any of it justice. There was so much he could have done with Jane’s cancer storyarc, Gorr and his hate of the gods, Asgardian gods interactions and interpretations of other gods, etc. And then to let Thor powers be something anyone can have as long as they “believe in themself” which WAS SOOO SOOO TERRIBLE! Literal toddlers are now as powerful as Thor because they “believe”. THEN TO END IT OFF WITH THOR BEING MISTER MOM IS PROBABLY THEE WORST ENDING I COULD HAVE IMAGINED! Mjölnir having googly eyes, sparkles, and ribbons seriously made Thor into a complete laughing stock of a character. To think of what we could and should have gotten as a sequel to Ragnarok and then to remember that dumpster fire…is just so soo depressing. Taika is so much better than that!

you don't think that is Taika style? With Ragnarok, it was his first Marvel project so he had to restrain himself and it worked out well with the balance of comedy and action. But because it was such a huge success, he was allowed reign on Love and Thunder and got carried away imo. I like his comedy style but it did ruin the movie when every other scene was a gag, tried too hard to be funny needlessly.

Can’t believe the writer / showrunner of X-Men 97 got fired. This show may have a huge influence on how Marvel portrays the X-Men in live action. I don’t know what Beau De Mayo did, but maybe they can bring him back at some point, b/c the guy created a brilliant show and the best mcu project in years.

Not gonna lie, I didn't know about this at all until I saw thumbnails mentioning it, so I checked it out before watching any of these review videos. It felt so authentic that I started to question if this was just a remaster of the old X-Men cartoon show that I used to watch as a kid. For me, that was the highest compliment I could pay to this project.

2024 and it is the year of the MCU introducing the X-Men. What we have all been waiting for since Avengers 1. Xmen 97 and Deadpool/Wolverine are a step in the right direction for fans. We really need a proper live-action Cyclops and Storm. I enjoy what we got from Fox but they did not do the OG characters proper justice.
