When I found out about the possibilities of the Gen 1 games I got totally hooked and started studying these games. I noticed that information especially about Johto Pokémon in the Gen 1 games is barely available and the information are scattered all over the internet, so I decided to work on this video to give everyone from now on a starting point for his own researches! Incredible video Oliver! pretty nuts that there's a ton of info out there now about these gen 2 Pokémon being hunted in gen 1. Very cool backstory on the early concepts of Pokémon design's and early appearances of gen 2 Pokémon in the gen 1 anime. Watching this video has got me more motivated to finish up my shiny lugia hunt in gen 1 soon!

Never actually left a comment here, so maybe it's about time. Thanks for presenting all this info in a way that makes sense! I used the missigno glitch a lot as a kid, I wonder what kind of pkm those missignos might have been had I transferred them to gen 2. It's just so fun to think about it! Planning to one day do a "Johto" Shiny hunt just like this (probably slugma, to no ones surprise xD). Looking forward to more fun gen 1 stuff in the future!

I think the Missingno. from the cinnabar island glitch is always a very specific one, can't recall right now which Johto equivalent that would be. Will look that up soon! This is not the first example of catching shiny Pokemon in gen1, but it IS the first example of someone catching shiny JHOTO pokemon in red and blue I've ever seen. Mind blowing!

Quite a good video but I feel like it's worth mentioning that a lot of the Missingno's actually weren't early iterations of Gen 2 Pokemon, aside from a few cases that's a misconception. A few (such as some of the cut baby Pokemon and cases like the Kotora line) were brought back during early gen 2's development and cut again. The Anime began in 97 and that would mark around early G/S/C development, with those designs that appear being Pokemon from the then still being worked on Gen 2 games that the devs probably knew were gonna make it in. Ho-Oh and Togepi to my knowledge were never part of Gen 1's development. Otherwise though, very good video!

Ok this is awesome. Now I want to try this, but before tranfering the MissingNo of Ho-oh from Blue to Crystal. I want to see if I can make Ho-oh shiny. I think I would like to get Entei, Raikou and Suicune as well but from what you explain I would need to make Type 1 and Type 2 the same. For example For Entei I would have to make it a Fire/Fire. Suicune would have to be Water/Water and Raikou would have to be Electric/Electric for them to be transferable from Blue to Crystal. Question: Do you know what codes I would need to make Suicune MissingNo a Water/Water type, Entei MissingNo a Fire/Fire Type and Raikou MissingNo an Electric/Electric Type?

Nautoum explains how to set up any Gen 1 Kanto hunts and the video from Kazzouli shows how to hunt Johto Mons in Gen 1 (including how to change typings I think)!

@OliverMKP Thank you, I managed to get the Raikou MissingNo and changed it's typings. Afterwards I did another (ACE) code and made it Shiny. Transferred it to pokemon Crystal and once I deleted the moves that didn't correspond to his typing I was able to transfer the Shiny Raikou MissingNo to pokemon bank successfully.

Here's an update: I actually caught Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Ho-Oh, Lugia and made them all shiny in Pokémon Blue. After changing their typing's I was able to transfer them to Pokémon Crystal. After that I removed the attack moves the Pokémon normally couldn't learn and raised their levels to what they would have been if caught in Pokémon crystal. Then I was able to transfer them to Pokémon bank with no issues. On a side note: I saw videos of people that caught MissingNos who's Index Number were above 190 and their game would crash while searching for that MissingNos pokedex entry. I read the comment section and someone posted that if you completed the pokedex in Pokémon Red/Blue the game wouldn't crash. After I completed the pokedex in Pokémon Blue I've had no problems catching MissingNos that have Index Number's above 190.

I have a question It's in regards to MissingNos that can evolve in gen 2. For example Cyndaquil's MissingNo if I don't give it a name In Pokémon Blue, transfer it to Pokémon Crystal and evolve it. Would it change it's name to it's evolution Quilava?

Well not all Johto Mons, but as I said in the video SOME of the Johto Mons were planned for gen 1 and got cut for later use, I even showed examples which ones. :)

The 9 pokemon thet aren't considered abnormal could they possibly pass through Bank? I know it's probably not going to work but the idea of a Tryantar from the Good Ole Days Kanto is to good to pass up

Haven't tested that myself but they will pass through BANK! BANK can't see if it's from gen 1 or 2 if you level it to a "normal" level and give it moves that it can learn. So it'll pass through BANK like any Johto Ttar would.👍🏻

I totally feel you, I am still shocked when I think about the possibilities of Gen 1 haha! So Nautoum, who did the detailled "Step by step setup guide for Kanto shinies in Gen 1" from my video description also did a guide on the Johto mons. It's an unlisted video but I'll link it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l5ePZc1irq2-k2Q.html I used that one to setup my Gen 1 Raikou hunt as well! Just note that you need the beginning from the "guide for Kanto shinies in Gen 1" video so I would suggest watching both videos in full length one time to understand whats going on and after that setup your hunts with this.

@@OliverMKP do you have vid explaining how shinys work in gen 1 and how to get misignos? Cuz I've read that if you find a wild mon it would never have the ivs to be shiny, so I'm a bit confused, like, does mew counts as a wild mon to so it can't be, does also wild missignos count to?

@@GateK101 That's true, wild Mons can never be shiny in Gen 1. But static (gift) and fishing Mons can be. The Mew is obtainable via Trainer fly glitch. All Mons you get through that can be shiny as well. I'd suggest watching the two Gen 1 shiny tutorials I've linked in the video description. The first one from Shinycollector gives a very good overview on what you can hunt and how it works and the second one from Nautoum is a step by step setup guide on most Gen 1 hunts. Hope that helps!

They easily pass BANK once all glitch moves are removed 👍🏻 They will be treated as mons caught in Johto.
