In this video, I share my experience and insights on why it is almost impossible to be a truck driver in Canada from overseas. I explain the challenges and barriers that foreign truck drivers face, such as the immigration process, the licensing requirements, the labor market conditions, and the cultural differences. I also give some tips and advice on how to overcome these obstacles and pursue your dream of driving a truck in Canada.

As a retired Canadian truckdriver, let me tell you it's not so easy to drive between the US and Canada. The two countries are very different. CANADA is (mostly) metrified; the US is not. The dashboard in a Canadian truck is only partially metrified (air-pressure in in psi.), reefers are in F deg.. And, without seeming to be racist here, a driver cannot expect to be able to come from a nice warm country of the world and then get into a truck to drive through the Canadian winter through the mountains of BC, the Northern Route through Ontario in the winter. That sort of driving is not for beginners. There are parts of the US that have very dangerous winter driving too; high elevations in Montana and Utah.

True, but if you have experience back home, you'd only need to go for knowledge test, road test and so on. Of course you might require someone or a driving school to train you, and you will pay for their services. But You dont need to pay 10k dollars or whatnot. And these tests dont last up to 6 months as you said, thats for the beginners.

Since Truck driving takes a while and might not be recommended for Visitors, who would desire a work permit, what other skill would you advice we go for?

Six months is not a long time for a career job. I was in school in the USA for 2 yrs before I got a job. That's after getting a master degree in Africa.

Exactly this. I don't get why you will have to spend 6 months and 10k dollars on something you already have experience in. The driving rules are road signs are different of course, but experience is experience

There are plenty of them. A couple years ago, a Pakistani guy killed and maimed a busload of teenage hockey players. This changed many rules in Canada.

New Brunswick doesn’t require you to visit a college. You have to have driving licence class 5, then do the exams (theory and practice).

There was an accident around 2017 or 2018 where a recent immigrant crashed and killed 16 people with his semi truck, because he did not have ample knowledge about the trade. After that, Canadian legislators passed a new law that permitted each Province in Canada to set up their own system. The problem was that drivers from 3rd world countries also brought the same 3rd world quality level driving style and attitude. In the EU we have an even more strict training and exam standard than Canada has, so in many provinces you can just exchange your professional drivers license that you earned in the EU (but not every EU country, only specific ones) to the Provincial equivalent in Canada.
