i agree with q on the point about spending quality time with friends without their partners or other 'external' people. i really hate it when someone asks if they can bring their partner or invite some other friend(s) to join in the meetup. it changes the dynamic and there are some things that you would hold back on discussing when there are partners or other 'less close' people around.

Love the discussion on gifting vs secret santa vs wishlists. I don't mind putting in efforts to get gifts that would surprise people and they love it. But sadly, nobody ever thought of doing the most simple thing - to open their mouths to ask if there is anything that I wanted. I was too shy to speak up because it felt like I am demanding for something and expecting someone to fulfill it. I usually receive gifts that I hated yet have no outlet to express it out. And the worst thing is, I have to put in more effort to make sure that the gift goes to a better owner. I am so done.

I live in a western country and I can relate to how Joie’s husband feels. I really hate winter and there’s so little light in the day. It’s also inconvenient to have to wear so many layers before going out, I realised I missed wearing just shorts and slippers 365 days in Sg. Winter is often glamourised by Singaporeans because we can wear different clothes and take nice pictures but if you’re actually living in it it’s really annoying LOL esp with seasonal depression also!!

Gonna be a party pooper. Christmas as the commercialised holiday is fun and great to meet up with friends. Christmas as the religious holiday is easily one of the worst day for a non-religious person in a fundamentalist Christian household.

Perhaps before feeling too sad during the holidays, studying history may help. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, now known as Palestine.
