It's also worth noting that the prints made of Oppenheimer were made photochemically. Made directly from the camera negatives (with some intermediate negatives, of course). But never was a film-out made. This is true for all 3 film format versions of the movie. Even if you watch it in 35mm, it's still special. Yes because most people haven't watched a movie on film in about a decade, but also because in the 90s and 2000s, movies, while shot and presented on film, were scanned and digitally edited. Then prints were made from film-outs. So really you're watching a version of the movie that had gone through a process that hasn't been done since the early 90s. A movie cut together in a cutting room.

The used film size in IMAX is equal to medium format in still photography. It had an enormous amount of Resolution. The 35mm movie film frame is tiny to IMAX, equal to APSc sensor.

This is a great video, literally showing you the difference in the film cells. There aren't any imax 70mm screens near me... So I did the next best thing.... Saw it twice on opening day, once imax laser, once in 70mm film print (non imax) 😊

There are two 70mm Imax screens near me. One is an hour away and is in a Imax Dome but is sold out until next Wednesday. The other is almost 3 hours away and is damn near sold out for the weekend. The last showing on Sunday still has some seats. Is seeing this in 70mm worth the wait and the drive? There is a regular Imax about 30-40 mins. away from me also.

35mm is from Rocky, non-IMAX 70mm is Titanic, IMAX 15/70 is Interstellar.

Better start booking to watch 70mm film. There’s only 20 locations in USA, and the one in Detroit Michigan is booked 2 weeks out!
