I don't like to do negative videos often and this one needed to be done as a warning. Sometimes people don't like the places they visit and that is okay! These are the top reasons you might hate New York City. Do any of these things surprise you?

Not watched the video yet but for me the main things I hated on my recent visit were 1. The complete lack of toilets in places, even coffee places and cafes would often not have them. The other being seating. So many places have had seating removed and when you're on your feet all day and especially as I like to travel in Winter. A safe, warm place to sit down and have a break is sorely missed. It feels like rampant capitalism to stop being being comfortable intentionally and to stop homeless people being able to rest. If you try sitting on the floor somewhere you've paid to be, you watch, a staff member will appear in seconds to tell you to stand up. It's disgusting.

Hi Sarah Since I live in Sheepshead Bay. Brooklyn NY. The stink I will never forget is the sewer plant (DEP) on Knapp st in Sheepshead Bay when I was a teenager and going to Sheepshead Bay HS in the 80s. Yep public bathrooms can be a nuisance. Smell Big Time. Subways decent in the morning. Going home can be " Challenging'. Especially going home from a Rangers game. I am a fan of the Subway system as well. I believe why the Subway are having problem with announcements is because most of the trains are old such as the R46 which is now the oldest cars,in the fleet. And I've been riding them since I was very Young. Take care be safe

Hi Sarah, thank you very much for your video. I can confirm most of what you say. When I was in New York in October, the dirty streets, especially in Flushing (rats on the streets and in the supermarket) and the smell of marijuana really bothered me. I already knew that it was loud, expensive and too many people all over the place, so it didn't bother me that much. Keep it up and see you in the next video.

As a teenager, I'd catch an old grey Public Service bus at a stop around the corner from my house, and a friend would join me in town, and together we'd head into Manhattan, to the Port Authority building. Some days we would catch the A train north to Columbus Circle, and wander the midtown area. Usually, we'd stop into the Chock Full O Nuts coffee counter on Broadway at 57th (?) for a 10¢ cup of coffee. It was watered down and weak tasting, but the price was right. I was last there in maybe 1971, over 50 years ago, and all a blur in the memory of this aging flower child. The old New York of my early adult days is gone. Nothing is the same in New Jersey, either, or even San Francisco, a city I learned to love in the late 70's and 1980's, has lost much of its character. San Francisco will be back again as Everybody's Favorite City on the top of the charts. I hope I live long enougth to see it. I hope that you and your family are enjoying your new home. Sometimes, I miss a city that never sleeps, but as time passes, I find that I have no where I want to go at 3am, except back to sleep.

Let me start by saying. As a Born and Raised New Yorker..I even worked for the City for many yrs. I never wanted to leave. 20 yrs ago I moved to FL to be closer to family. FL politically crazy 😮😮. But I don't miss NYC. To crowded to nosey. To expensive. City, State, Federal tax and don't forget the Mob Tax also. I visit my kids now and again in Rockland county that's it. NYC unbelievable to live in. Visit and get out😅 Another great video Sarah. Great Editing.

I've lived in NYC all my life. Being able to afford only small digs is certainly a down-side, but it's balanced by all our fair city has to offer. For me, the worst is the noise pollution. Bars open late and people loitering outside them, shouting to be heard. Helicopters in certain areas. Neighbors having parties or blasting music. Traffic. Le sigh.

Anyway, I will travel there again since there's always something new to discover. I was told pretty often that New Yorkers are rude. Nevertheless, my experience was definitely the other way round. I was given a lot of information and very useful advice from a variety of people in all boroughs I moved around.

Grew up in NYC and moved away after college. Friends and family constantly ask would I come back, every time I return I get increasingly more and more shocked at the state of things. Especially the smell of weed which I was kind of used to before, but now is super overwhelming and not pleasant. It’s super fun to visit for a few weeks, especially summer or spring. But year round living was misery other than a fun social life that can be easily done elsewhere.

The lack of public bathrooms is almost everywhere. If there were public restrooms, do you think they would be clean? Also, associated issues with unattended restaurants. Ask anyone who manages a building. Restrooms are extremely expensive to keep stocked and clean- especially if you have people abusing them. Or you could go to Switzerland where it costs to use dedicated restrooms with attendants. Americans won't pay for that. So, go when you are at a restaurant where you buy food and drinks that helps towards the costs of the restrooms.

As a bronx born and raised new yorker me and my whole family hates new York City with a freaking passion. To summon up hate crimes , racism , homophobia , psycho slash welding predators on the transit , robberies, migrants, the cost of renting an apartment, sky rocking food prices mta pricing , people being disrespectful and being disruptive the list goes on . Yes new York is only good when it comes to entertainment but that's about it. Over all, the city itself has become a huge war dystopian living nightmare where you're not safe in the trains or out of the trains you can barely go anywhere when there's always something negative going on people who come from other countries into this city have no idea how dangerous this can get if you're not aware. So like I said I was born and raised in the Bronx and I have seen how dramatic it has gotten over the years when each passing day gets worse and worse. Eventually me and my family are on the verge of moving out of the city, somewhere peaceful less violent no disruption.

I absolutely will never drive my car in manhattan (queens girly here born and raised ) bc of the reckless driving and really bad parking lol. So if you’re a tourist I’d also highly recommend taking the subway. On the other hand though, my bf works in the UES and his job pays for half the parking lot fees so for him it’s worth it to avoid public transportation (especially due to the crime rn in the subways). Personal preference though and you’ll never catch me driving in the city.

I’ve visited NYC several times, the last time was last month. I will say that the smell of marijuana disgusts me all throughout the city. That is one thing that surprised me on this last trip; it’s everywhere now. A few years ago when I was there, I only smelled it downtown, never really uptown. The lack of public restrooms is my other frustration. Thankfully I’ve only had a few “serious” times trying to find one, but those were enough to be very nerve racking & frustrating. I love all of the wonderful food options in the city…that’s my favorite thing. It’s fun seeing all of the historical buildings & I enjoy the architecture. Central Park is great too…that’s another favorite of mine.

But overpricing (for rent and buying apts), traffic, dating problems (but of slightly different kind thou) are also with us. Also we have bad air quality near the speedways i.e. the quality of Russian fuel sucks . And IMO NYC is more of a touristy city whereas Moscow is much more livable (but touristy also). I’m visiting right now from Vancouver (BC Bud is kind of what we are known for) and the amount of the smell in NYC blows my mind. Haven’t you people heard of odourless vapes? 😂lol Another thing I noticed is pedestrians don’t give a F if it’s a no walk, so much jay walking and the cyclists don’t care either, they will run you over if you’re not alert. The biggest thing I noticed is the lack of moving out of the way for emergency vehicles. If a pedestrian in our city tried to cross a crosswalk when a vehicle had its sirens on you’d receive as many fines as possible and would be in serious trouble. I love NYC and the competitive nature is VERY similar to that of Vancouver. I was single until 35 because everyone is looking for the BBT (bigger better thing).

The sooner people realize that there's no such thing as the perfect place to live, the better they'll be able to prioritize what's important to them in their hometown. Something will always be an issue: the traffic, or the weather, or the cost of living, or the economy, or the crime rate, or something. Most of these points are valid enough, but.... but.... but.... You yourself say you're a lifelong New Yorker and love it! As do 8 million other souls. Go figure.

People don't truly know what they like, they just mimic others, or enjoy what they are *told* they should.

As someone whos from texas this place is a dump😭a blue state that has people doing drugs in plain sight and homeless people shitting on the sidewalks. The food is good but you can get it somewhere else for cheaper it just has its main attractions thats it
