replacing the battery in a MacBook Pro is about $250... that being said, getting apple care+ for 3 years and having your battery hit 80% health, they will replace that battery without any deductible. The price alone offsets the apple care+ cost. If you plan on keeping the MacBook for 3+ years, that warranty will pay itself if you need to replace the battery 3 years later.

additionally, you can cancel the warranty anytime and they will refund you a pro-rated amount of months that were not used. but once you cancel it, you will not be able to add apple care + back,, so think before you cancel!

The need for battery replacement within three years can vary greatly depending on individual usage patterns. As someone who doesn't use high-end MacBooks and prioritizes cost, I personally haven't encountered this issue within a three-year timeframe. While AppleCare provides extended coverage, it's important to remember that the standard one-year warranty is often supplemented by an additional year of warranty through credit card purchases. This extended warranty can be helpful, but it's worth noting that it might not cover all potential issues. It's also crucial to acknowledge that warranty coverage depends on the cause of the problem. Apple is not necessarily at fault for all device issues, as user behavior and accidental damage can also play a role. The butterfly keyboard case, which resulted in a class-action lawsuit, serves as an example of a specific design flaw recognized by Apple. Ultimately, the decision to opt for AppleCare and the frequency of battery replacement are personal choices based on individual needs and budget considerations. It's important to weigh the costs and benefits involved before making a decision.

For those of us who travel (soon!), AppleCare+ is invaluable, since the coverage is worldwide. So, if you're in Singapore and the screen is damaged, call Apple and they will direct you to the nearest repair location. If you're in a remote area, they will pay priority shipping both ways, and I've even heard of them cross-shipping a refurb so you don't have to wait for the return of your device.

I bought applecare for iPhone when I was living in Korea because of “global” coverage. My phone broke after moving back to U.S and apple refused to fix my phone and told me to send my phone to Korea to get it fixed with me paying for all shipping and huge shipping time. I talked on phone customer service for hours and talked to upper management as well and they still refused to fix my phone. Global coverage is not always as I painfully learned

I bought apple care for my old 2011 MBP. I had the motherboard fail 3 times due to faulty solder on the GPU and I had the battery replaced as well. Each board replacement was over $900Aud. The last replacement was actually after apple care had expired however they replaced it as a good will gesture for having had Apple Care and this being a reoccurring fault. Short answer is it paid for itself many times over.

As far as warranties go I agree that Applecare+ is one of the best. That being said I treat as I do all warranties. If you can afford to live without it or you can afford to replace it immediately (without debt) if you can’t live without it don’t get the warranty. Statistically you are more likely to save money over time. That’s easy to determine as Apple or any company with extended warranties has done the math and determined the money you spend on the warranty should be less than the average coverage cost. Of course if you use it one time for you personally it will probably have come out ahead but over years and many devices odds are you’ll lose money. Although it depends on the value of your peace of mind. From personal experience I’ve probably had 30 apple devices between my wife and I over the past decade and we would have had zero claims. If we bought apples warranty we probably would have spend more than a new 16” MacBook pro on all them combined.

Initial Apple Care + can be purchased with the device, if you didn't do that you can add it from the device within the first 60 days online. It is super easy. However, if you didn't do that and you are within 1 year of the purchase date, you would have to go to an apple store, bring the receipt along with the device in for a genius inspection to purchase the apple care +, at which point you would still have the option to choose 3 years lump sum or yearly. If you can buy apple care + from the device now you would have this option as well, no need to go to a store. I don't know your circumstance but this is how you can approach this. And at the end of the 3 years you would have 30 days to add the Apple Care + on a yearly renewal.

@Clark James the problem with statutory warranties is that you'll be dealing with the seller (not the manufacturer) and it is usually just covering manufacturing defects that existed when you bought the machine. If your device is more than half a year old, the seller will start to argue that it's a new flaw that wasn't present when you received the machine. As this is near impossible to prove, the 2 years statutory warranty is actually not worth all that much.

Hi I have a question about AppleCare+ I completely understand AppleCare+ is helpful for MacBooks etc… But what about if you want to cover a M2 Mac Pro which is safe on a table etc.? Basically I’ve never had AppleCare for Mac Pros as they very rarely go wrong and to be honest up until now I thought AppleCare was a bit of a con as it seems to offer very little for a lot of money where Mac Pros are concerned…. I had a 2019 Mac Pro and it broke after 3 years and they still don’t know how it broke, however Apple has very kindly gave me a replacement M2 Mac Pro Ultra, so now I’m wondering how I can cover this new Mac and if it’s actually worth it as Mac Pros are bombproof 99.9% of the time. I’m disabled so my Mac Pro helps me with everything so it’s my life but at the same time I’m pretty skint 😂 What would you suggest to extend the warranty on this brand new replacement and is it actually worth the money? Oh by the way I’m still waiting for this replacement Mac to arrive I’m just trying to be prepared etc. Thanks in advance

Once you get the machine you'll have 60 days to decide to do it yourself and up to 1 year to do it through Apple. For a desktop machine there are very little need for it, however, I still get mine anyways. Part of the reason is that should anything ever go wrong it is covered. Damage are less likely to happen but manufacturer defect that will show up over time yes. And since these computer are non upgradable now or even repairable for that matter, I get it because if something goes wrong with the SSD, SoC, etc. I am covered and it does not have to be an out of pocket expense on my part. Like everything in life it is a peace of mind really, a small price to pay for some and something else to others.

The whole machine inside and out. New Macbook Pro 14/16 Applecare is just £90/year in the UK. That's just £7.50/month to buy you complete peace of mind. Seems a lot of commenters are forgetting that Applecare and manufacturer's warranty are 2 different things. A warranty does not protect against liquid spills, dust build up ruining your fans, drops etc. It also covers your cables/power adapter in case it starts fraying and also gives a 'free' battery replacement in case yours goes below 80% capacity. For me, it's worth it for the peace of mind alone and not having to 'baby' my Macbook, but instead, enjoy it.

Apple Care has always been a bit tricky. Before 2015, I would never buy it for a desktop because most parts on my system's would break within either the first year (when covered by the basic Apple warranty) or 5-7 years later which, is after the period of Apple Care. Today, if buying a new $3,000, 27-inch iMac Pro, I would buy Apple Care. However, if buying a $900, M-1 mac mini, I would not not buy Apple Care.

Great questions. I can't answer for Apple but this is what I think is going to happen. 1. These Apple Care + yearly are not around long enough yet to the point that we see Mac become "vintage" in Apple parlance - obsolete or discontinued. So it is one of those we shall see, they have said what they will do but the can change this policy on whim. 2. What will most likely happen is that once your product become vintage they may stop apple care. If they allow it to continue, and if something happens to your machine they might replaced it with a current base model unit, if you are still covered under apple care +. But the reality is this, if pro are using these computers, they would get change out every 3 - 5 years at the longest. For consumer that can be longer. Hope this helps.

"Also, when I add a note on my iPad 2022 and/or iPhone 13, it doesn’t get synchronized on my MacBook because it’s too old and doesn’t use the new Apple chips." To clarify this, the reason why this happen is only partially because of the reasons that you stated. MacBook is too old, somewhat, the issues really stems from the supported OS version. And having an apple chip is not a pre-requisite for these feature. The OS, however, is. One way to get around this is to use a bypass such as Open Core Legacy Patcher, it will a boot loader that enabled older machines to run current OS. This will circumvent the OS issues that you have with syncing. "I guess I will have to contact Apple for Apple care plan, to be sure about what will happen if my new laptop gets quite old." If you do contact them, ask for Apple Care Administration Department. By pass the tier 1 support, they most likely will not know or give you the wrong answers anyways. If you do contact them, please post their response in a new comment, I'm curious what they will say.

I’m struggling to be convinced. Hear me out… I buy a lot of Apple devices - all four of us in the family have iPhones, there are two iMacs, two MacBook Pros and 4 iPads so that’s 12 devices at any one time. Without looking up the individual prices for 3 year AppleCare + warranties, let’s assume about £2500-3000 (or $ in the US) per 3 years. Whilst I’ve had repairs done within the one year warranty period, and a couple of screen repairs in the last 12-13 years of owning Apple products, both have been covered (the former by Apple, the latter on home contents insurance). In all of those 12-13 years, I’d have spent the equivalent (at today’s prices) of £10-12k on AppleCare+. There’s no way I’d have got value for that. I can understand if the risk was much higher on a certain device, eg if I had a device that was a critical workhorse with no alternative, I took out a lot and the impact of downtime was severe. I may consider it for that one device or devices only. Thoughts?

@@transitengineer - Hate to say this, but SERIOUSLY? Dealing with Apple is like dealing with the Borg. I’ve written letters, contacted attorneys and gotten nowhere. Apple doesn’t give a crap about a disgruntled customer.

You lost me at "...especially if you already spend this much money on these products." - I mean, they better have the courtesy to give you more coverage and service after spending that much money with them. - If I spent like a thousand Euros on an iPhone or iPad, I'm NOT inclined to also pay up for some subscription after that. - To cover costs, sure, but that feels more like blackmail at that point. - Now, recently I got an iPhone for free, one that used to cost like 700-800 USD, I think, and stil goes for like 400-500 at this point, and I'm way more inclined to buy an extended warranty than if I'd had spent a lot of money on it. - Seems contrary, because one would want to invest in protecting their investment, but that's where the problem lies. Pay a lot for a product and then pay some more if you don't want to pay out the ass in case something happens to it. - Long live capitalism, right? - Yea, no... It's too much. - I think Apple products are good and all, but the cost is ridiculous and I would never pay full price plus insurance or whatever. - I'll invest in a good case and discipline or something.

@@ArtIsRight I found this useful. In terms of extended warranty, Apple offers the best experience. I've been with Dell for many many years, back to the day of the first XPS brand name announcement and the experience is not very nice.

Personally for I have used both Dell and Microsoft and they both are really bad compared to Apple, but each to their own 🖖🏼

Apple fanboys and girls are so funny. First they try to convince you that Apple products are worth all the $$$ you pay for them, then they pretty much excuse the short comings of Apple products, with something like, “this Apple product doesn’t do this, but I’m OK with that”. Then they try to convince you that after paying all that $$$ for Apple products, it’s worth some additional $$ to be forked over for their Apple care plan. And then they make excuses when Apple copies other features that other products have by saying something like, “but Apple improved the process and it just works”. You guys are funny.

Apple haters are funnier though, they sit there and act like their windows products dont fail and that they're 15k computer isn't more expensive than the Mac, oh and lets not forget if you buy the machine from a company like Dell or HP they also sell you extra warranty! lol

The joke is on you this time. M1 series are really good value for the $$$ depending on the apps you use. And the extended warranty from Dell, LG, HP sucks when compared to Apple Care+, and don't call me fan boy because I've been a proud owner of many many PCs since the 386 486 era. Give credit when credit is due my friend.

@@khoifoto I didn't say the products are junk - I actually have an iPhone, but it still isn't worth paying all that extra $$$ for the Apple care plan. I just never break my products, so still a waste of money, especially for the M1's. But to each their own. I still think it's funny how the Apple fans make excuses and justify the high prices. Didn't call YOU a fanboy, but hey, if you like the title, more to ya.

@@ivideocreations5941 No way said anything about other companies selling you extra warranties, hell everyone does that. I'm speaking of the cost and then the justification for the cost and then the justification for features that are left out or are simply copied from other OEM's. Oh and try to do your own maintenance on one of those M1's. LOL
