Great as always mate! Thanks for not putting so much visual specs while talking different specs this time. Onwards and upwards, the jungle awaits!

Rob, I realized that you provide more info in a 7-minute review than most people do in twice that space because you don't repeat and get straight to the point, which is great. I'm glad you pointed out that small NVME drive fan in the SEI 12, and they should have put it on their SER5 models to: I noticed that if I use something like Cinebench to stress the CPU on the SER5 5600H (with the fan ranges changed in the BIOS), that the fan keeps the CPU at good temps, but does nothing, including even drawing in air, for the rest of the case. I'm using a Samsung 970 EVO PLUS, which gets way too hot because there's really no cooling. (Note; Samsung has 2 temp detectors but only HWINFO64 (neither HWMonitor nor AIDA64 does) sees both and provides both temps.) I solved the heat issue by removing the bottom of the case and sitting the SER5 on one of those fans with feet (that plug into USB port). On the lowest setting, the very light breeze is enough to keep the drive and RAM amazingly cool (as in upper 20C's) with the CPU working away. (Heck, even with the fan off and just the additional air openings the drive and RAM run much cooler (low 40's).

I hope you get your hands on Asus PN barebones with Ryzen 6xxx! To bad it's gonna sound like a fighter jet when pushing the cpu and gpu...Maby Akasa will make a turing model for it. As it looks now the high power Alder lake is plenty enough, would love to have one to run some gameservers on, to bad it dosn't come with ECC support.

It may be potent on paper, but it has quality control issues, apparently related to junky power supplies. After nine months, my SEi12 began to have problems emerging from sleep and to *crash to black* at random points, as in important on-line meetings. Rebooting was not easy. Also had a noisy, stressed-out sounding fan 90% of the time. This is several design steps and quality control protocols from really working. Mine had to be classed as junk within a year. No go.

One year warranty. Make a claim.

Had I been clever, I would have made a claim at month 9 or 10 when its craziness began to appear, but I was never sure its problems were progressive and fatal. Unfortunately I only judged the SEi12 a "lost cause" after the year period, after its "crash to black" episodes had no obvious remedy. Much discussion of similar problems in Beelink forums. @@Robtech

I enjoy your videos Rob! I'm making a big assumption that Rob is your name though. Anyways, I bought one of these machines for benchmark competition last week and cannot for the life of me get it to boost above 29W. I've toggled every single thing in the million-plus-option Bios to no avail. I'm watching the wattage in Throttlestop which of course, doesn't do anything for performance on this machine. (I like to watch temps and wattage in TS over HWInfo since it seems a "lighter" load to run alongside the benchmarks.) I saw in your Celeron Alder Lake video what you did to raise PL1 in bios but that menu is different in the SEi 12. Any ideas on how to make this beast go up to it's 55W PL2? Beelink has not responded to my requests for help. BTW, I do plan on adding cooling mods if I can boost wattage. I won't bother if 29W is it. I really have high hopes here. This thing just kills my old 1165G7 Nuc even at 29W.

Yeah, you got it 😅. You've gone to CPU power management control > View/Configure Turbo Options if it has it? It's been a while, but from memory this one didn't react to changes in the BIOS. Many minis don't even if the option is there, nothing changes.

@@Robtech Thanks for the response Rob! I appreciate it. I don't want to give up on making this one go faster yet. I'm sure you have an unending amount material to cover with a new mini coming out every week but if I could wish for anything in every new mini video it would be how to raise PL1 in the Bios if it is at all possible. I know that you don't want to get in the weeds on this on camera and I do appreciate your Bios coverage in past videos. There's just so little information on Bios tweaks out there.

anyone has the back USB ports issue? with sei12? it seems it takes great pressure and a very hard push to plug the usb stick or keyboard or any USb devices into them. Also need great pulling pressure and the use of a tool to get them out again?

You measured pcs that range from 87° to 98° degrees at max ! Is that a reasonable temp for gaming? Those things will shut off at 105 to prevent hardware harm and will throttle heavily anyway. Those mini pc s runs too hot.
@Robtech
@Robtech Жыл бұрын
They don't shut off. They thermal throttle at 105C reducing performance.

Does anyone know if ddr5 sodimm rams work in the sei 12 I5-1235U ddr4 sodimm slot? Beelink just has a sei 12 i5-1235u and says both ddr4 and ddr5 sodimm can be used? I messaged them and they confirmed it. But how is that possible?? has anyone tried it or knows for sure it works?
@Robtech
@Robtech Жыл бұрын
It doesn't. Each new generation of memory is made to not fit in the previous generation slot. It's not backwards compatible.

Removing the bottom (if you don't use the SATA drive) and setting it on one of those USB_powered 120mm fans that are meant to have things sitting on them and blow air upward, will change things dramatically. The fan in the SEI12 that Rob is reviewing clearly indicates that they (whichever company actually makes the Beelink and Minisforum systems) realized that they have to have a little bit of moving air - that mesh on either side is not enough.
