Heck Joel you really do get around 😉. Driving along and pulling in to a wildlife service station - a beautiful blanket of Devil's Bit Scabious covered in some of our most favourite critters. The Devil's not all bad 😊. What a truly magical sight framed by that stunning landscape. Scotland is glorious. Please make sure Joel that you continue to keep at least one eye on the road (difficult I know) as you travel up, down and across this wonderful Island being a hero of nature and inspiration to us all. Thank you. Paul 👍😊

Thank you Paul :) This, rather rarely, was actually a holiday - we'd been up to see the client in Aberdeen previously around June time - and took a slight detour on the way back as my other half had not been to Scotland. It was driving back through Glencoe that made us book another trip for August, it truly is breathtaking, with no exaggeration. I'd actually stopped (there are sufficient stopping places everywhere, probably to combat the likelihood of tourists just stopping randomly on the road!) to look at the Loch and then saw the Devil's Bit - and of course I couldn't help but do a quick video and share it :) This was on the way back from Isle of Skye and boy did we wish that we'd had more than a week to take all this in. Best wishes, Joel

@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton A holiday Joel, disgraceful. You don't have time for holidays 😉. Seriously, it is breathtaking. I've been to Scotland once for a week long golfing holiday in the Strathearn/Crieff area and was so taken by the beauty of the landscape that I only played one round of golf with my buddies and then spent the rest of the week hiking around places like Comrie, Callender, Aberfeldy, Lochearnhead and was blown away by it promising myself that I would return. This was quite a few years ago. 😊

If you ever get a chance Paul.... needless to say it will be worth the trip. I've got so much other footage that I'm thinking of collating into one video to show the trip in it's entirety. I do hope I get to return again soon - off to Aboyne May time but it's the other side of Scotland and work schedule is tight so I don't think I'll be able to find an excuse for a detour this time! ;) Thanks and best wishes - Joel

I have some devil's bit that I will be planting here in Denmark. I have been to the Highlands and the Isle of Sky. So fun to know that's where the plant comes from! Similarly, the butterfly is threatened here in Denmark too, but... we are doing our best...
@keithroberts42
@keithroberts42 2 жыл бұрын
My first thought when watching this was' I wonder what butterflies are there' and then of course you covered that too.When you explore a new area it's almost magical, the expectation of what you may encounter and if I find something new or unusual get such a buzz. Having said that local knowledge is also useful when and where you saw a species, and whether the next year it is there again. It's an addictive hobby for sure. Must go back to Scotland amazing landscape and still wild in many parts.

I was a bit confused by your sun tan in February Joel ! But then you said is was August, what a wonderful rugged landscape you are in there, it looks really nice, the Devils Bit does not grow here as it is too dry, but I feed my Marsh Fritillaries on Snowberry, (Symphorcarpus), and they do very well on it. Stay Safe! Chris B.
@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton 2 жыл бұрын
Haha! For a redhead, tans are pretty rare, I think it was the sun reflecting, it certainly was a brilliantly warm day though and the landscape is really second-to-none. I long to return, off to Aboyne near Aberdeen in May but it's unlikely I'll be able to detour again this time as the schedule is so tight. Any excuse I get I'll be back there though :) Snowberry... absolutely! I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of Holly Blue our two attract, I'd not realised they were partial to it until a few years ago :) Best wishes - Joel

Any advice for planting this if you dont have a wet ground area? (I was thinking of sinking a large bucket or pot without drainage holes, into the ground, in hopes it will capture and store rainwayer to keep the soil wet. I'm just thinking for summer time when the ground usually dries up and how to prevent that. I've got a wildlife pond but it small and uses a pond liner so the edges are actually dry as the pond water isn't in contact with the soil.
