Exactly!! Everyone has different tastes and me and my Disney loving parents are the same. Sometimes they just wanna chill at our hotel and I love to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours. The first time I stayed at Magic Kingdom til 1am was amazing!! One day I really wanted to do the safari at Animal Kingdom so after riding, I just walked around and enjoyed the sights, got a few snacks and just relaxed on a bench. Everything she says in this video is 100% true

@@LilStarChar I like riding rides over and over, especially seizing the moment when a ride line is shorter than expected. Once I jumped in line for Peter Pan thinking I'd have to wait for an hour but it was raining so I didn't care. I started taking photos of the items in line but noticed no one seemed to be in front of me. A cast member came into the line trying to see what was going on and ushered me in to get on right away. My wait was less than 5 minutes. A serendipitous moment.

One thing that people might worry about is if they get hurt or sick while they are on their own. I hurt my knee pretty bad last summer when I was at Disney World on my own, and they took care of me really well! They got me to the hospital quickly. Once I got back to my resort, they paid for my taxi ride back from the hospital and arranged for a taxi to get to the airport the next morning. (Luckily I was already scheduled to leave the next day!) They also helped me get back to my room and brought me dinner and some treats. :) They did everything they could to help out!

I’ve never had a problem doing anything alone. Even on purpose. That’s why I’m moving to Winter Garden. Alone with no family living in FL. Children are grown, husband and parents passed away. And I am officially retired. Looking forward to Epcot anytime I want and just watched a DFB video on going to Disney solo. It’s now the Disney life for me.

There should be some kind of platform to put solo disney travelers in contact with each other! I personally am a local AP holder, SAHM who’s kids are now in full time school and I REALLY miss all those fun disney days when the kids were younger. None of my friends are Disney fans like me, and I would love to find some fellow disney fans to hang out at the parks with in the mornings while kids are at school!

this is a very cool idea. Just be careful going about it. I tried some "meetups" and setting up one of my own for some various things when I moved to a different state and wanted to make friends, and it ended up attracting lots of creepy people just looking for sex and affairs and shady stuff. Nobody was legit lol. Just make sure anyone you are meeting has the same thing in mind that you do. Sad that things are that way... but I know there are great folks out there legitimately looking for friends with the same interests. I would totally be up for hanging at the parks with like-minded Disney fans or people who have just moved to Fl like me. Monorail resort hopping, anyone? :)

Another cool thing about going solo is taking your time walking around and observing and appreciating the details that go into building the ambiance of the parks and it’s sections and the hotels. Since there’s no rushing around or anyone else to consider, your time is your own.
@erikaeklund1454
@erikaeklund1454 5 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Being alone simply gives you the opportunity to take it all in. When you're walking around you can keep your head up and able to catch all the detail. You don't have to constantly keep checking to make sure you haven't lost anyone in the crowds AND you are more easily able to weave your way quickly through those crowds!
@kalvineldridge

Solo can be much more fun than most people realize. Thanks for the video. One slight caveat would be the single rider lines. These have been incredibly hit and miss in my experience (both as a single rider and observing the line when I've been there with others). Many people seem to view the single rider line as a hack, I have often seen families and even gigantic school/cheer/team groups jump into the single rider line. This is fine as long as they observe the "rules" of the single rider line, but it often leads to much longer single rider lines and I have seen multiple instances of people confusing and/or blatantly disregarding CMs so that they can ride with their group. When used correctly on reasonable crowd level days single rider lines are awesome; but it seems the more crowded the parks are (and, subsequently, longer the stand-by lines get) the more likely it is that the single rider line is being abused and will be a much longer wait than you anticipate.

Agreed. Seen it both ways. Though on my last trip was in the rockin rolercoster single line and they didn’t have anyone from stand by. The cast member was like “look this never happens and don’t expect it again” then filled a whole coster with just single riders :)

I took my first solo trip this past March and it was the most spectacular trip! I'm married with two small boys and just wanted a trip to decompress and be selfish for a few days. I had breakfast at Boma, had a relaxing beer flight at Baseline Taphouse and people watched after riding everything at DHS, woke up early and was able to ride Flight of Passage 3 times in one day (!!!!), had a wonderful lunch and drinks at Nomad Lounge, watched Rivers of Light while drinking my green beer from Pongu Pongu, staked out a fantastic spot for Happily Ever After while eating an A.J. fav (Sweet & Spicy Chicken Waffle from Sleepy Hollow), and was able to stay in 4 different resorts in order to make this trip work (DVC). Even though I was alone, I never felt alone. Folks were always super conversational with me while at restaurants or in line for rides (and perhaps a bit envious while they were dealing with screaming kids lol!) I felt completely comfortable and safe while on transportation and with using Uber/Lyft. Go out of your element in 2019 and try something different. I never thought I could do something as big as going on a vacation by myself, but I think of that trip every day and hope that someday, i'll be able to do it again!

alicia It does sound amazing! We are actually going in May with my mom and my sister and her fiancé so the planning has been intense (the total opposite of planning for a solo trip! 😂) Thankfully we all get along well and pretty much everyone is just looking forward to get getting away and having fun and not going hard. And my mom, husband, and sister are just like "just tell us where to be and when" so it's mostly just me and her fiancé doing the planning so it's been fun. But I'm definitely going to keep a solo mommy-getaway vacation in the back of my mind!

@@beccaschlomann7592 One of the main reasons for my solo trip was we went with my family a few months prior (Jan 2018) and had probably the worst trip - not Disney's fault. This was the first trip that we had a large party (7 total) and we happened to be there during one of the coldest, rainiest times. My MIL got the flu, I got an ear infection, we ended up in Centra Care for my youngest with the croup, flu, and double ear infection, my oldest started vomiting right as we were getting up to baggage check at Epcot, then my youngest got the stomach bug. We used up pretty much all our DVC points to stay in a 2 bedroom Savannah View at Kidani Village to make this trip happen, and man was I disappointed. A week after we got back, my husband was doing a guys trip to Vegas in March and so was like, "then i'm taking a solo trip to Disney with the few remaining points we have left!" and wow did this trip surpass all my expectations! I hope you and your family have the GREATEST time in May! :)
@beccaschlomann7592

alicia oh no! When it rains, it pours, huh?! 😭 My daughter (2.5) just got sick with a double ear infection and a stomach bug and was up vomiting last night while my husband was working late and my 5 year old was then waking up complaining about his own issue. Goodness it's not easy being a parent sometimes. The only other time we've gone was when my son was 2. We'd been trying so hard to have our second kiddo and after three miscarriages, we decided to book this trip and said let's take a break from trying to get pregnant and just have a fun little family vacation. Then I got pregnant with my daughter so ended up being 19 weeks pregnant while there (and I have rough pregnancies, walking was not easy, which is not ideal at WDW!) but we had a fun time. We're finally getting to go back three years later and I can't wait. I'm just looking forward to a fun family vacation so we're trying to be very realistic about what our kids can handle and just enjoy the magic of Disney. Hopefully no one gets sick. 🤞🏻 I'm so glad you got that solo trip. You definitely deserved it!

I went on a solo trip to Disney last year and had such a great time I am going again this year. Everything mentioned in this video is accurate based on my experience. The flexibility is great and eating and riding rides alone was not at all an issue. I upgraded to a deluxe resort and had a massage at Grand Floridian during MK peak hours to relax. The cast members are super friendly if you want to strike up conversation. This year I chose to stay in a moderate resort and splurge on after hour event tickets. If you are on the fence about going solo I recommend trying it!

One thing about making a restaurant reservation as a solo traveler. The Disney app will not allow you to make single reservations at popular restaurants (like Ohana). Because the smallest tables they have are for two and they know that they will be able to fill both seats and double their profits. The only thing you can do is to make a reservation for two and when you show up say the other person couldn’t make it.

Another annual passholders solo trip reason, if you have something you love and wanna do over and over without worrying you're gonna annoy your friend or family who aren't just as into that as you are!! Christmas time i went to flurry of fun maybe 10 times by myself because I love the same thing. I see the frozen sing along holiday version, do all the holiday magic shots, get pics in front of the tower and then just watch the tower projections almost all night, and finish with hot chocolate flight while watching jingle bell jingle bam from the tables! I can repeat that routine night after night and not worry I'm slowing someone down who wants to try other stuff. I did solo after hours at animal kingdom and literally just did flight of passage 13 times in a row! I love the Broadway concert series at the art festival at epcot and I'll go and do that for almost every set of performers. I'm a repetitive person and I can be that without guilt alone.

I did the annual pass last year for the first time in maybe a decade and I discovered the joy of solo trips. At first I was only going if my friend went with me but she finally told me "you know you don't have to wait for me, you can go by yourself!" Best advice ever. I go alone all the time now and while I love having my buddy I like being able to choose what I want and change on a whim. And yes. Single rider lines rock! I did expedition Everest one day like 10 times in a row with a literal 5 minute wait on single rider line!! I like stuff that others maybe don't sometimes so I can browse gift shops without worrying I have to hurry to rides because my friend ( I love her ) but she's very much an intense push push push person with Disney. Sometimes I just sit and watch people. I am addicted to photopass and I love meet and greets so I'll do that a lot when I'm by myself. This one is prolly bad for me but she will also help police my spending (in a nice way!) And alone I can buy that 100th set of ears without a guilt trip. Also I'm not a person that feels the need to "beat the crowds" out of the park and I can stay till the last minute plus without hearing about someone else being tired or wanting to get out to beat tram lines or whatever. Who cares!! Lol.

One of the things I love about solo travel is eating. I can go to 4 different character meals for the price a family of 4 pays for one. Also at the places like be our guest dinner, the new story book with snow white, or others where they bring things for everyone at the table to share you get it all to yourself. A lot of the time they'll go in a ziplock bag for later. Pastries that were suppose to serve a family of 4 will give me breakfast and snacks for 1 to 4 days. Plus they're usually disney themed

I've been to Disney World solo several times and I love it. You can get up to go to one of the parks when you want to. Your time is your own to make your own plans. I've gone to table service restaurants and cast members are delightful. I hope you will take a solo trip soon I know you will enjoy it.

I just came back from a mostly solo trip and I loved every minute! I would also add on to the tip about the rides- even if there is not a designated single rider line, there are some unofficial ones if you let a cast member know. I always get pulled out of the line at Space Mountain when I tell them I am solo and end up going right on. Avatar too. For those debating a solo trip- dp it!! You will love it!

Just came back from a Solo trip. The flexibility is just so awesome. More than once, I was able to hit all the rides I cared about in one park, cancel my Fast Passes and jump to another park where there are things I haven't done yet.

I’ve never needed a reservation being one person. Even California Grill, I got to sit at the bar, watch the food come out, ask all the questions I wanted about it and play around with the staff. Plus I was sick of the crowds so I walked around Saratoga springs one morning and everybody walking by smiled and said hi. THAT was a great change from busy parks!

I've made the solo trips. I'm not married nor do I have kids so even when I do go with other people, I'm often separated from them and spending hours or even the entire day by myself. It is so peaceful and relaxing to make a visit and only have to worry about yourself. You don't have to wear if someone else is having fun, if someone is hungry, someone else tired. You only focus on yourself. Absolute bliss.

I love doing this. I am an AP holder and live only 30 minutes away. It is great to just walk around by yourself and see everything without any set plans. I love to go to Studios and then take the walk to Epcot and then take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. See what you want to see and go back. You can use up whole day.

I went on my own last summer and it was a wonderful experience! I liked that I could be quiet if I liked, but if I wanted to talk, I could talk to people in line with me or people next to me at the fireworks. I also liked that when I got tired in the middle of the day, I could go back to my room to freshen up and take a nap for an hour, then get back to the park with a second wind.

I've been to MK twice solo, Epcot solo, and Animal Kingdom solo. It's great because you will notice a lot of different things you haven't seen before if you were with a group of people. A lot of times I also get more room to myself on rides - I'll never forget getting the whole row on the Kilimanjaro Safaris to myself! This was on a day where the wait time was 80 mins! Cast Members will go out of their way to make sure that you have a great time even if you are going solo. So try it!

I went to Disney alone last year. A lot of people thought I was crazy until I explained how good it was. Doing what I want, when I want. The only time I felt weird was when I had a reservation at table service restaurants, particularly Le Cellier. I felt bad for my server as I had intended to eat a full meal but being a particularly hot summer day, I couldn't eat anything more than soup. It became less weird over time but it saved me so much time in the long run because I wasn't having to wait for anyone else to finish their meal, decide what they wanted and wait for both meals to be served. You see so much more of the parks when you are just looking out for you. EVERYTHING is quicker. Zoom straight through security, sit wherever you want because you don't need to find enough seats to accomodate everyone, go have a nap at your resort to recharge without being dragged around the park because someone else wants to stay. I'm not sure I could handle going with someone else now unless they also wanted to do their own thing and we just meet up a few times throughout the day.

My first trip to Disney World was a solo trip for my 34th birthday that I planned three days before going and it was during the food and wine festival... let’s just say I had a blast! I did 20 rides at the magic kingdom from open to close w/ a break at Epcot in one day! Simply Magical! I called all the people I met my Disney cousins and had great time. I’m planning my 2019 trip now.

You are SO GOOD at what you do. Thank you so much for working so hard to keep everyone informed. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I bought your E-book and it is AMAZING! I've gleaned so much valuable information from it. My wife doesn't like Disney ANYTHING so I go by myself. It's just sort of an agreement we make for each other. I have traveled SOLO the majority of the time I've even been to Disneyland or Disney World and I actually enjoy it a great deal! Having the flexibility to move about where, when and how I want to just makes the Disney experience all that much more fun for me. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy having my wife or my kids along because I really do. It's just a whole different kind of vibe.

My Solo trip was awesome ! First of all I went in August with my two teenagers. They didn’t want to do the fun activities that I wanted to do. So, while walking around Epcot I saw a sign that said.... Food and Wine festival.... I wanted to go but, I thought noI can’t go alone. But, as soon as I got home... I booked my return trip back to Disney World Nov 5-9 I have front row seat to see Boys to Men at EAT TO THE BEAT …I had so much fun as a Solo Disney Fan ! AJ you were right.... I ate at the Yak and Yeti... alone in till a family I met a week before showed up ! What a crazy fun coincidence! Then, I got dressed like Princess Tiana… ate lunch at the castle, took a charter photo with Princess Tiana.I had so much fun ! Go alone.... Enjoy Disney Solo … I Did It !!!!!

And I treated myself to a club level room at Grand Floridian and had the most amazing turret room with views of both Magic Kingdom and Epcot (hello nightly fireworks from bed). I did early morning magic in MK, and had amazing meals and relaxing time. In October for my second trip I stayed in an Epcot resort, was able to eat around Food and Wine how I wanted to, went to a ton of eat to the beat concerts, and just had the most amazing experiences. I’ve met so many people on these trips that I might not have ever spoken to if I was with my family, and one has even become a friend.

I've never done an actual solo vacation, but when I was a WDW CM, I used to go play in the parks by myself all the time! It was great to be able to just pop over on my own for a few hours every time there was a new attraction or new food item or character experience. During the Food and Wine Festival, I'd go to Epcot at least once a week. Now that I'm no longer in Orlando, and I'm married with 2 little girls, I almost never get to go on my own, and I miss it so much! I managed to get 3 hours to myself one evening at Disneyland when we went this past October, and it was heaven! Don't get me wrong, it's fun to take the family, but it was so freeing to not have to worry about anyone else.

You know, I never really considered people could be nervous about dining alone at a Disney World restaurant. Last time I went to Disney World, I actually got invited by my mom since she had a conference there and could share a room. Since I was on my own for the most part for a couple of days, I snagged a dinner reservation for Be Our Guest and it was cool to see (granted, it wasn’t as atmospheric as I would hope since it can be crowded and noisy from all of the groups around). I got us a quick lunch reservation together on a different day, since that was far easier to get (all of our reservations were somewhat last minute because of the timeframe and I swiped the dinner one from someone cancelling a couple of days before we went) and that ended up being the better experience, but I was happy to have gotten in a solo impression ahead of time.

I travel on my own here all if the time. I enjoy the freedom of doing things on my timeline and preferences for any given day. Not having to preplan with others allows a kind of freedom that provides the chance to make adjustments if you just feel like relaxing in the morning, or going later in the day to stay until the end. In the past I found that my preferences were second to what everyone else was wanting to do. Travelling here alone the first time was a bit of concern but Disney has done an absolute fantastic job of taking these concerns away. You do not feel alone and when you do travel with someone else - at least I find- you are more apt to plan for their wants as you have already had that opportunity when you go alone.

I have made 27 trips to WDW. Probably 20 of them have been solo. On my very first trip I went with my sister and nephew. Our last morning before going home, they decided to go swimming. I had my very first experience being solo in the Magic Kingdom. I had a total BLAST even though it was just a couple of hours. I soon made reservations for my second WDW trip, solo, and there's been many more since. I do find I can often walk up to any table service restraunt and get seated without a reservation.

I have not been to WDW in nearly two decades. That said, when I was younger, I was very much a Disney fan. On top of yearly visits to Disneyland, and many trips to the World (many for the old Disneyana Conventions), I did solo trips for the 10th anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland, the grand opening of Euro Disney, and the grand opening of Tokyo DisneySea. If I had the funds, I would go right now...or for the grand opening of Star Wars Land. 😁

My most recent trip was a solo one, partially as an advance recon run for the big family trip we're planning. I had no problems going to dining alone at table service restaurants 5:45. As for the solo rider lines at 8:20 the Test Track one doesn't let you design the car, only to pick from a number of predesigned ones, so it's only useful if you just want to ride it and not be an amateur engineer.

I've been going on solo trips for 10 years, not by choice, I'm a widow with no family. However, I do love my trips as they make me happy. I just wish all CMs are trained to treat solo visitors the same as everyone else as I still encounter younger and newer CMs who clearly find it weird to see an adult on their own. But, I love the flexibility, especially with FP+, it's a lot easier to get last minute ones or extras when you are on your own and are flexible. One thing about Single rider lines, there are groups who will go into them, making the line almost as long as stand by then have the nerve to ask to go on together, grrrrr.
