Something about trips away in the van not just the big holidays but the little weekends, one nighters or even just days out. I would say 80% of all my holidays have been in a campervan. 1974 commer autosleeper that grandad bought at a year old then dad bought of him. 1972 vw dormobile I bought when I first started working and now a Renault trafic that we have had converted for a family camper. Hope you get yours back on the road soon for loads more adventures

Early mid 90's i toured Europe in my 1963 VW Type 2 Split screen van. You lot with your turbo diesels are spoilt! That van had no acceleration, low gearing, terrible brakes and you felt every ounce you put in it. Driving up steep hills in the Alps in 2nd gear with 50 ton artics overtaking you is a bit soul destroying. But boy was it a head turner! A beautiful thing. Wished i still had it but with twins on the way needed something a bit more practical.

Power steering fluid soaked my alternator killing it, probably be the same as Trafic same as Vivaro. Its no biggy done it myself

Same as my Trafic, the power steering pump went and chucked fluid everywhere, then not long after getting that replaced, my alternator called it a day. Perhaps it's a 'trait' of the Trafic/Vivaro eh?

Nothing is very easy to get to on the vivaro/ trafic is it? Do you have to take off the front and remove tons of plastic to get to the pump?

yep it took 3hrs stripping the front off, 15 minutes removing the alternator. The fluid melts the carbon brushes, wash out with petrol new set of brushes for £8 saves the alternator, 4yrs later no problems

I’ll watch the rest mate, I was just pulling your chain that’s all mate. Only seen one of your videos before but I’ll even subscribe as you come across like a nice, genuine guy and I can only imagine the effort and keeping people attention for that amount of time must be really challenging at times. Edit - I’ve watched the whole video now!! 😁 - especially the editing 😂 … I’ve got a little DJI mini 2 and editing the clips from that with a bit of music is hard for me and takes ages. We also seem to be from the same part of the world (south west) I’m on the outskirts of Bristol. Just had a look at that the river 2 and they’re not bad at all price wise depending on how quickly they run out I guess. I’ve had vans since I passed my test and my first was an on bay window when I was 17! My mates thought I was bonkers 😂 - I then got involved with the VW scene and paid well over the odds for T4’s and T5’s - but let’s face it they look cool. I’ve since been diagnosed with a one in a million neurological condition in my back and trunk region so had to have a long think about it and whilst I was I spotted a (2002 Fiat ducato deffleths coach built motorhome) - I need the bed to be ready to jump into if I’m having bad spasms (just call me Celine Dion) it’s what she’s just been diagnosed with. Anyway mate, sorry if I pi$$ed you off, just a few beers too many and watching videos. Will subscribe now. I’ll find you in instagram and pop a pic of the van to you. Have a good one mucker 👍🏼

Hey Shaun, loved the history part so much! I am Australian and my first road trip was in a station wagon with a fold out tent on top as a kid with my parents (late 70’s) across the Nullabor and back. We went to NZ as well and travelled around both islands in a old red ex post office van with a tent! Great childhood memories 😊 I love my microcamper, always wish I’d got a van sooner but glad I saved up and waited as I did end up with the perfect van for my needs. Like someone on here in the comments said ‘it’s in your blood’ and I truly believe that! Cheers for another excellent video as always! 😊

Happy memories are the best. Funny that you mentioned the Nullabor. The photo of the van broken down was in Esperance the morning when we were due to drive the Nullabor. Luckily we broke down before we started else we probably would’ve got stuck out there

@@LoveSundays it’s only when you’re older that you appreciate it! Oh yes you were so lucky there, imagine breaking down in the middle of nowhere, nightmare. I look back and think wow, no mobile phones, two kids under 10, an old Holden station wagon with a roo bar and the Nullabor was only a dirt track then from Perth to Sydney and back - my parents were hardcore 😂

Great memories I have a van memory too so distinct: must been 6 yrs old living in Sudbury Ontario ( 🇨🇦) and parents friends build a stunning Volkswagen classic minivan believe it was yellow and white?!.. they were going to travel through USA, central and down to their home country c as NY remember if it’s was Bolivia … just being struck by the adventure and I wanted to leave with them!

I fell in love with campervans aged 7, when I saw a bright orange T2 . Then my Dad had a mint T3 when I was a teenager. Fast forward to today, and my daily drive is a T6. If it's in your blood, you can't (and shouldn't! ) escape it!

We have a old converted fiat ducato van it does what we need .we love jumping in it and driving it around Cornwall stopping to make a coffee when ever we feel like it. We would be lost without the van it gives us a escape at the weekend totally get what you're saying. Hope you're back in the van soon have a amazing Christmas and New year 🎉🎉.

I did similar with my daily car years ago. Budget was £500 and it was awesome! Did it for a few years and in the main I bought for £500 ran it for a year and sold for £500!!!! Got real satisfaction and pleasure from not worrying about it. Worst case I scrap it lose £500 and start again. My last car (died early 2022) was a Picasso, paid £1000 drove it for 5years and then the cam belt snapped. Scrapped it and got £270!!!!!

I do have an 82 motorhome that works great but now that the kids are gone and the husband doesn't like to camp, I really enjoyed just taking the Durango out and car camping farther from home. So freeing to be so mobile. Toying with the idea of buying a charging station but as my husband pointed out, they are just a battery and only have so much life. He says if you are camping you shouldn't even need power. LOL, what does he know. LOL I loved your van story. Looking forward to your Christmas video.

During the l world rugby cup here in NZ I met a couple of Welsh guys who followed their team all around NZ in a Volvo estate. My fellow kiwis thought this was hilarious and they spent most nights with locals or camped at the local rugby club.

ive a 1987 toyota hiace extra high top extra lwb, and ive a mitzi l300 motorhome, .. for what your doing m8... id sugest if u can find an older shape forward control type hiace, their super reliable and usually very well layed out, i utterly love the toyota for touring, and the mk1 mk2 forward control has soooo much more usable space. with you being sat forward of the engine, plus u can work on most of the maintenance on the engine in the warm inside lol

This is a bit sad but what really winds me up are UK sockets fitted the wrong way up. This probably happens because markets such as the US have the earth pin at the bottom and not at the top. They (manufacturers ?) have just assumed that the UK is the same. This also happens with power blocks. It should be earth pin at the top, cable exit at the bottom.

Your van is very similar to mine other than the badge but it’s great any trafic/vivaro is perfect especially if you keep it stealthy on the outside. Living in my full time I never get any issues. Not too big but not too small, keeps it cosy.

I knew it was the alternator. When it fails it cuts out systems to save power. The abs being one of the first to go which is what happened to you

I did the Great Ocean Road in a Subaru Forester with a mattress in the back, living the dream. I saw you on Film Booth yesterday and nearly spat out my coffee shouting "that's Love Sundays" at my phone 🤣. I'd really like to see you do a tent camp, not right now though, id be a hypocrite 😅. I know what you mean about being precious about your van. I bought a T5 as a replacement for my Peugeot Partner work van, but I soon realised it wasn't so much fun driving down Cornish lanes in a van with nice paintwork and one I wanted to keep in good condition! Nice one mate, and don't be daft you have nothing to apologise for. Hopefully they can sort the oil leak quickly. Your history with vans sounds a bit like why I'm into driving/roads. Since I was a kid I've been on a fair few long car journeys up to Northumberland to visit extended family. I'm looking forward to next week's special 😀

If your key has a battery in it stick it in a small dry bad and put it in your wetsuit. If you key doesn’t have a battery don’t use the dry bag

I would love to do a van conversion, but don’t have off road parking to do it. Bit annoying as I have the funds for a 3rd hand van and the DIY ability but not the space to do it.

Yea space can be a nightmare to do the work. However if you have battery powered tools you could still do it out on the street

I have owned two vans l used with my courier work one was an old Datsun C20 an absolute pike of junk and a Toyota Lite Ace it was OK l liked them but never camped in them drove them into the ground l had 4 utes and l have hung on to the fourth one although l am retired now its a 1997 Toyota Hilux and it is old and l found a lot about it through you tube and it is described as indestructible and by the looks it is going last longer than me

Just my opinion.!!!!Buy as modern a van as you can afford...I love Transits...Convert it very cheap and simple and basic...!!!!! Transit spares the cheapest.Rust beware.....Stealth camping does it for me.!!!!!
