Hey my friend -I've been subscribed for a while now, just taking a minute to thank you for your insight! One thing I appreciate is you talk from your own knowledge, and you aren't afraid to say "I don't fucking know" rather than trying to convince us you have all the answers. You are spot on about re-reading Cormac and how much more you gain. I'm not an English scholar, and my brain is dumbed-down from marijuana and alcohol over my 58 years, but I appreciate good writing, and I'm just starting to re-read (except Blood Meridian and The Crossing, already there). You are doing a great job, keep it up!!!!

@@WriteConscious Those first four novels resonated a great deal with me. I lived in the western mountains of North Carolina for thirty years and Cormac nailed the dialect and language for area for sure. Some of my older friends would call a panther a painter as did Cormac's characters. When I read that I knew he had struck gold.

Great video! Great job! The only one I've read so far is The Road. I read it in 2008 and didn't much like it. That was before I came to appreciate literature. Well, I just read it again recently and after I had had become a father for the first time and after a divorce. Wow. It resonated with me more than any other book. Trying to be a dad while kicking through the ash after a divorce made this book real for me. So far, I've been reading academic essays about this book, but I plan on reading The Passenger, next, and right away. Only because no matter what video I watch everyone talks about it. And I want to stop being one of those who pauses your videos, Ian. Hahaha.

Yay TWO non fictions, only knew Kekule Problem. Just finishing Cties if the Plain, was going to bail, but will persevere. Suttree my favorite. Just got the Gardner's Son and Stone Mason. May need more encouragement for No Country...alas. it is all a rewarding journey, thanks, Ian.

Luckily, Cities of the Plain gets way better at the end. The first 75% or so is just him converting the screenplay he wrote. The last part is original writing and story which makes it way better. You're on your own with No Country For Old Men :P

what's up dude! keep up the great work man people need to know about the GOAT! hey I was wondering if I could put in a request for some Cities of the Plain deep dives? I loved "The Orchard Keeper." I don't understand the criticism of it. I've read everything but the Border Trilogy (working on it---about halfway through), No Country for Old Men, and the screenplays/plays. I think that "Child of God" was the weakest, and I'm not sure why "Orchard Keeper" is often considered his worst.

Hi. Sorry to jump in by just wanted to share (boast?) about an insight in Stella Maris. In the Dostoyevsky novel “Brothers Karamatzov “ Ivan talks about God’s final harmony not being worth the tears of a tortured child. Miss Vivian ( an associate of the Kid) is always crying about the babies and their tears. Her name is an anagram of Ivan. Also you can add depth through the Biblical theme of Rachael crying for her children.. Cheers x
