As a photographer, I most definitely resonated with the quote "photography is the art of seeing the world differently." I do nature photography and love showing people the beauty of nature, including things people may not take a second look at like plants considered weeds. It's such a wonderful feeling to be out in nature and the process of taking pictures really helps to shut my brain off. I also love watching other people's content. I love people's stories.

My documentary impulse is so real and strong! Thanks for this interesting analysis on documentarians. My foray into YT is a result of many instagram reels, previously a still photographer on instagram, and a desire to try my hand at long form video. Perhaps vlogging is the answer in the future as I am currently taking tentative steps to master this new medium. I am definitely exercising narrative curation/restraint with a silent, faceless vlog! I am still undecided as to how much and what I am willing to share on a public page. This has helped me find my "why". How lucky are we in this age to be able to have a digital record of our lives for future generations to see? In a hundred years no-one will remember me but the digital record/archive of my life experiences and family life will still be around for great, great, great grandchildren to know our family history as opposed to a musty oil painting/photographs that merely captures a moment ( which is not a bad thing but so limiting in interpretation).

I love Milanote! I'm working on writing my first novel and since it's fantasy themed, Milanote really helps with all the visual planning. I love that it's just like a giant storyboard where I can just brain dump all my info and not have to carry around notebooks and individual post its :)

Enjoyed this one, well communicated🙌 Agree with the connection aspect.. Ipersonally, I love to connect to fellow phd candidates through their vlogs.. Also, feel like there is a certain accountability factor - if the day is being filmed, one takes extra care to make it count:) I wonder, do you feel some negative impacts of vlogging/docu mindset on your life/workflow?
