Why You Should Consider a Piper Comanche

If you want to know what it is like to fly a piper Comanche 250, you have come to the wrong place. I bought one but I haven't figured out how to work it yet. I did decide that I should make a video about the plane with some marginally truthful information about the plane and the rest is made up nonsense.
Truthfully if you are looking to buy a fast single engine aircraft. I strongly suggest you consider a piper Comanche. The Comanche 250 is a beast and you can get one far cheaper than the other planes in its class.
The number one way you can help my channel is to share videos you like on your social media streams.

It's amazing that in 1961 Piper had the vision to bump up to 7.5G spars to avoid the 5G interference issue in 2022. Cessna 150 wing spars are made from the boxes those 182 wing spars are shipped in.

My 150 is, to this day, the most reliable aircraft ive ever owned. 182 is a great plane as well. But I agree the Commanche is a great plane, it just never factored into what I wanted. I got my 1985 150 in 1999, from my Grandfather for my Graduation. I have it till this day, in mint condition, but rarely flying because I have a 172 hangered, and an 80% through a Vans RV14 build, while also completely redoing a stearman biplane. (Years from completion) Doing this stuff is a hobby I grew up with, I've been flying since I was a child).

Hey! I've got a 1960 Comanche 250 and it's got a heater and a defroster! A 65% cruise setting is easier on the engine and wallet with a burn of 12.5gph. You'll still get a true of 147 knots or about 171 mph. At $8.00+ per gallon at the pumps that fine by me.

The Seneca was developed as a twin-engined version of the Piper Cherokee Six. The prototype was a Cherokee Six that had wing-mounted engines installed, retaining its nose engine. The prototype was flown as a tri-motor aircraft in the initial stages of the test-flying program.[1]

Loved the video! I was actually based at NW Regional in those outdoor T Hangers when I bought my Comanche, I previously owned a Cherokee N5701F which I believe is still parked there. I ultimately decided that since this was probably my forever plane, and the financial investment that I had and was going to make in it, that I needed to have it in a covered hanger, so I moved to Hicks. I remember how much dirt and moisture I would get in those outdoor T's. To me it's worth the investment - something to consider

@@JustPlaneSilly yessir it was. Logs are complete and intact. She was a hanger queen. She flew for 500 hours in her first 10 years and then the owner died. She sat in a hanger for 15 years without flying. Then the owners son took her out of storage did a very extensive annual and painted her. Went through everything, only to fly her for 5 hours every other year. Then the plane was sold and got a new prop and engine and once again got flown 5 to 10 hours a year. I’m pretty sure it’s the lowest time Comanche still flying. She’s In mint shape including the original interior. I wish KZfaq would let me load a picture.

Yup! I couldn't believe that either. 200 more pounds. but I understand they are really hard to find and about 15k currently. I would like to add them becaue I think they look cool but I can't fathom paying for 120 gallons of fuel. That would make me a little sick.

@@JustPlaneSilly yes, but tip tanks would mean the plane has 6 bladders, so you need a funnel within easy reach of the pilot. Connect it to the pito tube and you are good to go. “For emergencies only”.Then you could make 1000 miles between stops.

I was just looking at the Piper Comanche 250 KZfaq channel, and MIke's installation of the Garmin GI-275 instruments. I'm really hoping that your airplane will end up with that same kind of upgrade. I also hope, in the future, you'll find some 'ram horn' yokes for that airplane, instead of the D style yoke that's on there. I posted a question to him about fabricating some sort of adapter to use the new Piper style yokes, but while the concept isn't hard, getting the FAA to approve it might not be too easy. However, who knows, your friends over at the FSDO might be able to help you, in a positive way! LOL :D As usual, it's always great to see new content from you. From all the ice on the airplane, I guess you are having some pretty bad weather down there. I hope all is well with you and your family. Take care, stay safe, and I'm looking forward to updates on the airplane, both interior, exterior, and panel.

That bladder shaft has to be the result of a drunken competition between a few piper engineers of “how can we make the most inconvenient sump system ever”
@LimeyTX
@LimeyTX 2 жыл бұрын
The idea behind the sump system is that you could see the fuel through the tube as it ran on to the floor. This way you could see when water was gone and fuel was flowing. Unfortunately, two things happened. Over time the plastic tube became opaque and ditching fuel on the ground was banned.

The story I got is the comanche and the bonanza in a tandem configuration were contending for a government contract as a trainer at the end of the war, mid 40's, and the bonanza won, probably cuz of all the other Beech contracts.

PA-34-180 Twin Six With the decision to abandon the three-engined design tested on the PA-32-3M, the PA-34 was developed as a twin-engined aircraft. The prototype PA-34-180 Twin Six, registered as N3401K, first flew on 25 April 1967. The prototype had two 180 hp (134 kW) Lycoming O-360 engines, a fixed nosewheel landing gear and a Cherokee Six vertical tail. The second prototype flew on 30 August 1968, still with the 180 hp (134 kW) Lycomings but had retractable landing gear and a taller vertical tail. During development flying the wingspan was increased by two feet. The third prototype was closer to the production standard and flew on 20 October 1969; it was fitted with 200 hp (149 kW) Lycoming IO-360-A1A engines

Having owned a comanche in the recent past, you are about to find out just how accurate you are (about the maintenance costs).... she's a beast. Great planes, go like stink, carries a decent load, and chews up maintenance dollars like nothing you ever seen before or will again :)
