@@stormbringer717 Yeah...That was a weird outcome. Lobo is forbidden to enter heaven and hell, so he literally can't die. The stare was the only way to defeat him, but the question was: Does it work?

R4nd0m Guy From what I’ve seen in the comics, his stare doesn’t send you to hell like in the movies. It forces you to feel the pain and suffering that you’ve inflicted, and depending on how severe it was, it can drive you insane.

@@r4nd0mguy99 that does not mean the soul can't be destroyed plus the pennace stare is far more powerful than you think it while the punisher famously survived the pennace stare was only because the ghost Rider had no intentions of killing him in the first place and it actually works on him on the 2nd time and if zarathos comes out the pennace stare is going to work regardless of you being innocent or not plus the ghost Rider has more methods then just the pennace stare

The Netflix shows are able to push the envelope when it comes to brutality, but they don't get to have the budget to make a good Ghost Rider series. Iron Fist couldn't even give us a dragon for one scene, animating a flaming skull for a minute every other episode for 8-13 40 minute episodes isn't going to happen. Why do you think all of the Netflix heroes and villains have powers (or none) that are extremely easy to make special effects for? Ghost Rider needs a movie.

A good example of why Ghost Rider is a anti-hero you shouldn't underestimate comes from World War Hulk when Doctor Strange a hero known to be OP and has multiple times accomplished OP feats states this "I have no fear of Ghost Rider when Jonathan is in control, I am terrified of Ghost Rider when Zarathos is in control."

I really don’t understand why he doesn’t have his own show. He’s one of the most badass character designs ever, and his format is as episodic as it goes. “Hell’s bounty hunter rides from town to town to purge them from demons and evil souls”. No idea why they have him on the backburner like a Z list character.

*1. Does the Penance Stare work if you don’t feel any regret?* Yes. It has been shown to work on remorseless criminals repeatedly, including people who straight up enjoy what they do, cannot differentiate right from wrong, and people who think wrong is right. This claim that it requires regret to be effective almost always comes from a popular instance of the Penance Stare failing against The Punisher, but said instance was a massive outlier and should probably be ignored. It’s likely that either The Punisher was just squeaky clean and had not harmed any innocents or the writer derped. It happens to the best of us. *2. Does the Penance Stare work against insane people?* Yes. It has been shown to work on people with all varieties of mental illnesses and disorders. The claim that it requires sanity to be effective almost always comes from a popular instance of the Penance Stare appearing to fail against Deadpool, but in actuality, Ghost Rider was not trying to use the Penance Stare on Deadpool in that story. He was just trying to show him something through a similar psychic link. *3. How can I escape the Penance Stare?* The Stare seems ineffective against alien symbiotes for some reason. It likely has something to do with its unique biology or psyche, so I guess I’d find one of those things. (The bad news is they’ll totally snatch your body and make you act like a loser.) *4. How powerful is the Ghost Rider when the host and the spirit are cooperating?* It’s hard to say. He’s often seen fighting ghosts, demons, and eldritch horrors that don’t scale well to the rest of the muggle Marvel universe. He _did_ manage to beat Mephisto in his own realm though, and that guy has nearly destroyed multiple universes just as a side effect of fighting with an equal, so start there.

@@spacegod6940 No, he is not. The spirits of vengeance come from god/the one above all and frank got his ghost rider powers from mephisto. Also, one of god's spirits of vengeance kicked the one above all off his throne. So they're clearly stronger than all the cosmic entities.

Battle Frame Studios Yes I read a comic were two ghost riders (Johnny blaze and Danny ketch) were fighting each other. Eventually Danny used the stare and it turned Johnny back to a human after showing him all the pain he has caused.

Lost, the Penance Stare on galactus is non-canon as it was done in a cartoon. Tobito, innocent and guilty doesn't matter anymore after the retcon, only sin does. To elaborate on what deadboy said, during the Zadkiel storyline, Blaze and Ketch fought each other and performed the Penance Stare on each other. Blaze lost the will to fight after he received it as he felt guilty about his family's death, his deal with Mephisto, and so on. Blaze also performed the Penance Stare on Eli (Yes, Robbie's Ghost Rider is a Ghost Rider too as Eli's no different from Kale)to stop him after Eli had taken over Robbie's body.

I loved how when he tried to us his Penance stare on the Punisher, he basically told him. I already know I'm a monster and I accept everything I've done xD and when he tried it on Deadpool he just reverted back to Johnny Blaze lol

To be fair, the penance stare not working on Punisher because having no regret is pretty stupid. A mass murderer could have no regret, does that make him immune to the penance stare? Like, I doubt Stalin felt all that bad about his atrocities, would he be immune? The penance state sounds pretty useless if thats the case. The Punisher and Deadpool thing were probably just author wank on the characters.

Yeah, the Punisher moment was a massive outlier. The Penance Stare has worked on many, _many_ people who were explicitly stated to have no remorse or even enjoy what they do. You can chalk it up to bad writing or the Punisher himself just having not harmed any innocents, but that _definitely_ should not be considered the standard. And if memory serves, I don’t think he was explicately trying to use it on Deadpool. Didn’t he say he just wanted to show him something?

That's movie only. Zarathos is a pure demon in comics, he even tired to destroy earth when he was free from mephistopheles's enslavement. Whereas in movies it's stated he regains his sanity and becomes angel.

Imaginary Axis I've actually done a lot of research and to answer the question: The spirits of vengeance that god created are in fact different entities from Zarathos. Zarathos has warred against the ancient spirits of vengeance over the medallion of power. And also, in the 2018 (I think it was 18) "Spirits of vengeance" series, Zarathos was retconned into an being an entity outside of heaven and hell, so he can't be one of them. I don't know how long Marvel will keep it like that, though. There's other pieces of evidence out there, but I don't want this comment to be a big text wall.

Of all comic superheroes, Spider-Man is my favorite, but Ghost Rider is the one that fascinates me the most. And of all abilities, Penance Stare is...amazing. Both conceptually and just by how it's portrayed, it's one of the most iconic abilities in comic books (heck, I'd argue even fiction), and I truly love how broken it is.

Well, if we're being fair, that was a much weaker version of Hulk, not the one that can flip a continent by walking too hard (World War Hulk) or the one, who can hold up a 150 billion ton mountain (Secret Wars Hulk). As for rivaling Thor, Hulk loses 90% of the time if Thor posseses Mjolnir. The only times Hulk has won here is by using Thor's weapon against him. Without Mjolnir, They're more or less even. Furthermore, I don't think you can call somebody with such an advantage "Human". He's a mutant, he can heal really fast in his peak form and at the time he fought the Hulk (the time you were talking about, another time he fought the Hulk, he ended up being torn in half) he had his indestructible adamantium skeleton. Comics, however, are known to be inconsistent, both Marvel and DC.

Not exactly. It doesn't have to be pain from punching and kicking, just pain you are responsible for. So if you were to, say, put laxatives in someone's drink and gave them diarrhea, you'd feel the pain.

That´s why I love Turahk from Bionicle so much: Turahk are the Rahkshi of Fear, and are true masters of instilling it in others. Whether it´s a slight unease or terror to stop your heart, when they hit you with their staff, it´s over for you. They are shown to be nigh-invulnerable, can fly at high speeds, and are just overall terrifying.

Yeah, that moment when he could not kill the Punisher was a major outlier. The Penance Stare does not require regret to work. He’s used it on dozens if not hundreds of people who don’t regret their actions. It’s more likey that the Punisher just had not harmed any innocents at that point. ...So, I guess what I’m saying is “Yes. He could kill them.”

Not exactly. While that’s how it works in most scenarios, both sonorosians (Echo Echo) and Celestialsapiens (Alien X) do not have DNA, so there must be some other way of transformation besides genetic mutation. Also, the current omnitrix (Omniverse) does not use DNA from the codon stream. It uses digital samples of pre collected DNA. This is how Ben is able to use Ghostfreak again.

I guess I´d be toast too if he caught up to me, but I don´t fear him. I don´t see my bad actions as my own, to be honest. To me, all the bad things I did were purely the result of the circumstances at the time, and me reacting in the only way possible in that scenario. I know this is wrong, and that I could´ve done things differently, but I can´t understand that I had a choice in these situations.

Grew up on the Rider. He's just a solid hitter and very durable. His Penance Stare is potent but the least of his abilities, IMO. I love the edition of "Spirits of Vengeance" where he tries it on Venom and it knocks him (Ghost Rider) out because of the symbionts reaction to the "nasty fire that doesn't burn". Either way, he's just tough and has a cool history.
