Good luck to all the ladies- It can be a life changing path. I was a hs graduate with a 2.3 GPA, and after doing my 4 years, I left the Navy and immediately enrolled in college. I am finishing my first semester with 16 credits with a 4.0 GPA and my life is being LIVED.
@caponemattly61624 жыл бұрын
Do you only have to do 4 years
@LoveKayWad4 жыл бұрын
Ponyboi 4 depends on your chosen rate! Some are 5 year contracts, but most are 4. Try to stay within four years, it keeps you sane and gives you a good idea for if you want to stay, or want to go civilian and use your gi Bill!!!
@caylav67143 жыл бұрын
How long into joining the navy were you able to start on your education?
@LoveKayWad3 жыл бұрын
cayla v well it depends! So if you want to start school during the service, normally you have to finish a few qualifications that vary from rate to rate! You’d use TA, or tuition assistance. But if you finish at least 36 months of honorable service, you can use your GI bill. You ideally want to use your GI bill after so you get the bah payments!

Great choice of rate!! I knew of many non designated seaman who were striking for OS, everyone of them that was accepted to strike for OS made E5 within their first four year enlistment and E6 in the next, those that stayed in the Navy past their 10 year mark ALL made E7, with a great number going LDO & OCS. The kicker is that they were all given re-enlistment bonuses for OS - AND when OS’s are in port they have LOTS & LOTS of free time, so additional Navy schools and outside college education was readily available, as well as huge amounts of free time to get gym time in. Being an OS is like winning the Navy lottery. PS: this is coming from a sailor who’s career spanned three decades.

Right now I'm definitely considering joining the navy to pay for my masters degree. I graduated with my bachelors so i plan to go the officer route. My only concern is that the years that I'll put into the navy will take me off my goals and delay the future I want for myself. It's still a backup option for me but even if I go I don't plan on staying in the military for the long haul (5 years at most). Another concern is that there won't be an officer route that prepares me for the field that I want to pursue which is either architecture or urban planning. I don't want to be placed in a role that isn't tied to my current career goals and I don't want to be in a position to compromise that. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind being in a position to make and save money, travel the world, make friends, learn a trade, and afford my masters when I get out. Thoughts?
@Southpaw1285 жыл бұрын
@Space1TV .!. depends on your college and asvab score. I don't plan on joining at all unless its the officer route so if I don't get it the decision will be made for me.

Look into Civil Engineer Corps if you want to do officer route. If enlisting, look into Seabees. If you're doing officer, start talking to an OFFICER RECRUITER, they're only job is to help you put together your officer packet in order to attain the contract you want in order to attend OCS and commission. You have no obligation to the Navy until you actually commission. The sooner you start building your packet the better.

I'm in DEP now and ship June 10th. Got a 90 on ASVAB but I'm colorblind with a record so leaving as SH... sucks but your positivity is contagious so thanks. Ready to show up and show out. Peace and blessings.

Jimi Hendrix I get it man, talk to your recruiter engineering rates are undermanned and you definitely don’t need a clearance or anything special besides a pair of balls and the will to work. Advancement is pretty good as well.

Update I had to postpone because of a foot issue I had. Yesterday the doctor called me and confirmed that theres nothing seriously wrong with my foot. I'm so thankful. I jumped back into exercising and back on my clean eating. Hoping to ship out at the end of this year. I'm going Reserves

Hey Zenez, B Z. Nuke EM (1977-83) here, finished my BA and made 1st Class in one hitch, then left to raise our three girls. My Swim Buddy Brianna - seven - asked me in the pool today, "Can girls join the Navy?" Of course, I told her women are a bigger part today than when I served. She loves our PC & TV, so next time she & her Mom come by, your video here is On Deck. Cheryl married me on leave between Nuke School & Prototype. She's an Honorary Crewmember of my ship USS Arkansas (CGN-41; Plankowner here). 41 years later, we're still together & have four grandkids. She teaches 4th Grade & I practice Law. I was going nowhere good. The US Navy made me who I am. You're telling an honest story here. B Z my Sister; B Z.

I plan on bein a veterinarian, but I'm a Sophomore in high school, n I'm gettin really big in FFA, my whole family pretty much has been in the military, If I don't get any scholarships to be good off to get my degree I'm gunna go to the navy enlist, make it there n then do school while I'm I'm enlisted.

I'm so torn on which branch to join mainly because my options are few. I'm 31, so it's really just between the army and the Navy. I've always wanted to be in the Marines but the cut off age is 28, so my next choice would definitely be the Navy. The only problem? I am terrified of the ocean. How crazy is that lol
@stephenmejia52165 жыл бұрын
I’m 25, have my degree but sincerely regret not enlisting when I was out of high school. I know I’ll regret it if I don’t serve my country so I think I may do it. Do you recommend enlisting first then going officer or just applying for OCS off the bat?

@daniella84005 жыл бұрын
Stephen Mejia in my opinion it’s better to enlist older, you take more advantage of benefits
@daniella84005 жыл бұрын
Stephen Mejia it really depends on what your end goal is. Do you plan to just stick with the job you ententered the military with? Do you plan to go back to school and enter into a new field.I’m not going Officer because I plan to get a scholarship to finish nursing school and I can cross over to officer then. I won’t have the time to be an officer because I’ll be completing my last 3 classes for my nursing program.

Chow. Before enlisting in 1976, I was enrolled in a junior college and an state university. Needless to say, the higher I advanced in academia, the worse the food got. After that, in basic training I was very impressed with how the service was able to manage institutional food. WIth few exceptions, it is outstanding (not same as your mother's, but still quite edible).

I thought about getting a battleship on my chest when I was a young sailor, good thing I didn't because less than 5 years after I retired from the USN I had heart attack and open heart surgery. Wow! my battleship would be SUNK if I had.

The military can be a great experience if you make the best of it. My daughter is Army (68 C LPN) and my son is Airforce (9s100 Scientific App Spc), my husband and I were also Army(logistics and gen. mechanic). So every branch has different jobs. I do suggest that people really look into what they want to do because four to six years can seem long if you don't like your job. Don't just rush into it and take any job, just like college, you don't want to waste time in a job you hate.
