I once was working out in college with an ex wrestler. Dud was crazy strong but literally every rep he moaned like he was 3 seconds away from climaxing. Dude be repping 315 on bench banging it out but in a much more sexual way type of banging it out. Had to stop working out with him because I’d see everyone just starring at us when I was standing there spotting him for every lift…

As a current wrestler he's an outlier. Everyone wrestler i workout with wants to make it look as easy as possible. In our eyes the less noise and faces you can make, the stronger you appear.

There’s a guy at my gym who moans loudly before heavy sets. It’s so sudden and unexpected that it literally activates my fight or flight every time. I still can’t predict when it will happen. It’s like winding up a jack in the box, unsure of when it will pop.

Some times at my gym there are some mentally handicapped people from some kind of day action center and then there is this one strong guy who always starts to grunt and yell when they come. After that “they” start to copy that guy and are all YELLING it’s kind of funny 😄

Any weight that I can lift more than ten times are ridiculously light, relatively speaking. Making noise at the first few reps out of 10+ is just weird and obviously for attention.

​@@mastertrey4683 I'm not getting anywhere close 10+ reps with 80% of my 1rm. I'd say closer to about 5 reps, and even there the first rep is very light. But then again my strength is explosiveness and I don't really do well with reps in general.

I do grunt in the gym regularly. Sometimes air just gets forced out of my body from effort. Sometimes I'm feeling the burn. I only make noise when it happens naturally. I never make additional noise on purpose. It's not excessively loud, either.

I never yell or scream , i just make struggle faces during leg extension drop sets lol . (Its very painful i dont recommend going more than 4 or 5 drops)

@@muffinbreath5734 I dont fully understand the question but what i do is 200 for too failure (12 to 15 reps) then 170 to failure (8 to 10 reps) then 140 to failure (6 to 8 reps) then i rest for 2 minutes then do 200 to failure again then do 170 to failure This is the equivelant of 5 normal sets

I use to do the grunt yell when doing heavy singles and doubles or when attempting a new PR but nothing like this. I'd leave and find a new gym after hearing this shit lol

Last week was the first time I shouted in a work out. I was leg pressing 398kg and only my 10th rep(I start with 20kg on each side btw and increase 20kg on each side for each set) and my spotter was testing on his phone, I screamed hella hard that the weight went up. I normally do leg press at the end to completely destroy the leg

I used to fart at the bottom of a squat to garner attention, but as I've progressed in strength and dominance I now poop myself at the bottom of the squat and the smell attracts attention to my godlike physique.

I make noise during power cleans and push press. I don't know why but when I catch the bar and feel the weight I sometimes swear subconsciously. And farts during pulls / squats thats a common deal with it kids.

The only time I ever make a big noise When lifting heavy Is when I am putting everything into it And it is barely moving. Otherwise Is sometimes before a power lifting competition I used to go off To somewhere where I could be alone For a few minutes and just pay back-and-forth Until I am ready Then I find the person that I'm competing against And warm up with them during the preliminary Warm UPS.

There’s a dude that would scream every rep after two at my gym. I kid you not, this dude would do pushups to finish off his chest day, and he would SCREAM doing them. Brought it to my buddy’s attention when he lifted with me once (“this dude screams every rep, watch haha” is all I said). Apparently he was friends with him in high school and said he was “special,” and told me not to talk about him. I said it to my buddy then and I’ll say it now: “I don’t care if you’re Helen fuckin’ Keller, no one needs to scream during pushups.”

Avoiding grunting or obnoxious noise is just like any other common courtesy you should perform when at the gym. Other people are there to work too, try to respect that. Of course if we’re at a home gym or nobody is there it’s “YEAH BUDDY!!!”

I don't think you need to actively avoid grunting or making noise, just don't do it intentionally for attention. As matg said, it's alright to make some noise when finishing up a hard set, and anyone who's bothered by that should just wear headphones in the gym. Just don't be a dickhead about it and never try to be the center of attention just by playing main character.

I can't stand when people do it on almost every rep of shit lol.. I make sounds too but more like I'm orgasming probably on some final reps. Either way I don't think It matters If people wanna make noise then go for it.. If that's what you need to do to get through it then so be it.. I have my music turned wayy too fucking loud anyways to care :P

There was a dude that would do like 10 rep sets at my gym and he sounds like (yes, for all 10 reps of the set) he is fucking the weight RAW and I'll try staring at him just to see if he notices Personally I only ever grunt or gasp from doing the valsalva and sometimes squeaks if the air sneaks out but I really just don't understand and I wish I could just ask these loud people why they do it. O yeah sidenote there was legit a woman at my gym that she sounded like she was full on org**ming on each rep too. It reverberated. I felt embarrassed for her.

Yeah people are tripping and it’s like everything else. The douche bags who fuck it up for everyone don’t represent why some people might actually behave that way for legit reasons at times. I usually don’t make that much noise lifting (except the weights or bar itself) but sometimes I catch myself grunting or making some other noise during some reps and it’s just natural.

Maybe she did drop sets and every drop was a failure. Have you tried that? Yeah at drop sets the last set is always the hardest, even with baby weights. Not excusing the scream but drop setd are killer. 🤷🤷🤷🤷

Tbh that woman was probably on a long drop set and was really struggling to move that little weight for that final rep, hence the screaming and "pausing" midway. Just my two cents. I've no idea what was happening in that whole situation
