I am just starting a Circle of Dreams druid who is quite literally a sleep fairy. Her Circle is committed to protecting sleeping denizens of the forest and nearby townships from things that go bump in the night. She spends her days as a cat getting fed by the tavernkeeper and her nights patrolling and protecting the people of her sleepy little farming town. Her interpretation is that sleep, rest and dreams are one of the most vulnerable states of nature. For that reason, her Circle has taken it as their job to protect them. Whether it is intelligent beasts, humanoids or anything else. Dreams also contribute a lot of energy to the natural world. Because of their energy potential, they are a target for certain creatures like dhampirs. And then there are threats like beholders whose dreams become reality. And she gets to have a slight annoyance with elves for not sleeping. Not a rational annoyance, but one that can be leveraged for amusement in RP.

Cool Video! What I would add is that Balm of the Summer Court can be used in Wildshape and in the same turn as casting a spell. Plus the 6th level ability can be used even if you don't finisch the short/long rest. So you can use it for sneaking/hiding or scouting/lookout situations just by sitting down taking out a whine bottle and relaxing, while the guys following you and your party suddenly loose their trail :D

So, a friend of mine who wants to DM his second campaign invited me (I'm a OLD D&D player AD&D era) he told us to make characters who are a little shady, then just said "Murder Hobos" Now...I'm not all about the stabby stab so I started to look thru my books and slowly...bit by bit made Ashtari, the Kalashtar, Feylost Druid of the Circle of dreams or as people know her "The Witch of the Aisles" a shifty con-artist and charlatan who actually does like to help people, for a price and uses her powers to do so, even if the help is a harmless fortune telling or telling customers what tomorrows weather will be. She heals people (for a price) and animals alike, using Speak to Animals (and often lying) when people think their pets or precious cattle are sick, depressed, ect. Been looking for good ideas on how to play the Circle of dreams and your video nailed it for me! Thank you.

I really appreciate your perspective, all of the other videos I've been finding are basically reading the class details. I can in fact read. So thank you for sharing! I am excited about creating my circle of dreams character. Unfortunately my game doesn't have much role playing, but I'm trying really hard to bring more to the game. This has given me a lot of inspiration!

Not Fey enough, huh? Balm of the Summer Court is you literally harnessing the preservation magic of the Fey Court, acting as a conduit for that magic to flow through you to heal your allies or yourself. That's why it's not a spell. As for the sixth level ability, you are drawing a magic canopy of darkness to protect your rests. (I also like the idea that a fairy ring of toadstools emerges and surrounds the area, for more thematic effect) the teleport feature is very fey as eladrin and fairies are always popping in and out. In a previous edition, 3rd I guess since I couldn't find in the 4e books, they talked about a secret collection of ancient paths that druids learn to utilize. I wish I could remember where I saw it. And the 14th ability harnesses the power of dreams to scry, send a message, or even travel to your last resting place. With every ability, you are channeling the power of the Feywild because none of them are spells. My next character is going to a dreams druid.

Amazing video! When I was watching it I was like, YOURE SAYING EVERYTHING IVE BEEN THINKING! One thing I would add is that 6th lvl can potentially become a dead feature if the dm isn't doing night encounters (you may have hinted at that when you said it's a bit slow). I wish with this class they would expand the spell list, maybe? (like give sleep or some thematic spells of illusions).

One method that this works really well is if you have a party member that is an assassin. You can have the circle of dreams set up their hearth near where you want to attack somebody (caravan coming through, prisoner transfer, army on the move, etc.). The assassin can use it basically as a duck blind to ambush their target.

I really like this review as I played a gnome circle of dreams druid. Hidden paths came in useful not only for staying out of harms way, but also launching tanky party members at the enemy, pretty much exactly like you said. Casting dream came in handy to learn the weakness of the BBEG in the end... before we got screwed by a time wizard. Now he's a former circle of stars druid turned circle of mutation druid.

I agree that the 6th level needs a little more. It’s a cool ability but can be rendered almost useless. My sister played a dream druid and it felt like she almost didn’t have a 6th level ability just because I played a swords bard that took tiny hut as a third level spell. I think perhaps a way to inflict psychic damage and possibly a fear effect could be cool as a way to draw upon the negative sides of dream. The balm could be a nice pleasant dream while this could be the power of a nightmare.

If you're wanting to multiclass as a bard and get that fey feel, I'd recommend Archfey Warlock. Bards run off Charisma and Druids Wisdom. Although, if your bard's wisdom is real high, you'll probably be fine. If you do end up going Circle of Dreams, be mindful of how you're using your bonus actions. Bards and CoD Druids both love using their bonus action. Know whether to inspire or heal. Good luck and thanks for commenting!

How does stealth work for hearth of Moonlight and shadow if you are detected? Specifically, do you still have total cover and can't be targeted?
@enterthedungeon
@enterthedungeon 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, Hearth of Moonlight and Shadow does provide total cover. You can be "targeted" but you won't be hit by normal attacks. As for being detected, the bubble is grants a bonus to stealth and thus makes it generally harder for you to detect. So if a group of bandits stumbles upon your protective barrier, you'll have an easier time hiding. If they still see you and shoot at you, your party and you have full cover and won't be hit by regular attacks. I hope this helps.

And don't forget, no matter what subclass you go with, any druid has the option to polymorph the entire party into boss creatures in 1 round if they wanna take it at lvl 8.. all you need is Conjure Woodland Being. You use the spell to summon 8 pixies, and give the pixies a command to polymorph the entire group into t-rex's for example, and then find somewhere to hide (to keep their concentration). Bam, just like that you go from being the healer to helping out with damage by essentially wild shaping the whole party. Or as another example, polymorph everyone into cats or something stealthy with high dex to help the group (or help that clunky plate wearer) stealth through an enemy camp or whatever. The possibilities are insane. Or take the example of combat again, say you have a party of 4, and are suddenly in combat with 6+ enemies, you can polymorph the entire party AND 4 of the enemies... or just stay in form and polymorph 8 enemies... it's great.
@ericpeterson8732

Cheesy, no thanks. Abusing spells like that will only lead to DM abuse in response. As Jim Gordon told Batman at the end of Batman Begins, "Escalation. We wear body armor, they use armor-piercing bullets." You just threw a bunch of T-Rex at the DM. What do think they are going to do? I can think of a couple, right off the top of my head. It's better to not go there.

I'm confused. Balm of the summer queen is one of the weakest level 2 abilities. 1d6 per level on a long rest. Paladin is better, life cleric is better, anyone using healing word is better. It is still trash at level 20. Aura of vitality is almost as effective and it's a third level slot that 3-4 classes can cast. Spore druid has more temp hp than a dreams druid can give out with their ability. I don't understand why people rate this so highly. Its so weak. It doesn't scale like bardic inspiration or other classes scaling die. It doesn't remove any conditions like a paladins lay hands which heals for way more. They really made one of the weakest level 2 abilities for any subclass here. Even a thief can potentially heal for more using a potion as a free item interaction. I really don't understand. The level 6 ability is the inferior to tiny hut. Even bards with song of rest are better than this. I started to play dreams druid after playing wildfire and I can't believe how terrible it is. Wildfire is easily on of the best subclasses and then playing as this, what a wakeup.
@enterthedungeon
@enterthedungeon 2 жыл бұрын
To each their own. I've made a video on Wildfire and have routinely said it is the most powerful druid has ever been. I will stand by Balm of the Summer Court tho. BA healing, no spell slots used, 120ft, and extra temporary hit points is powerful. It is better than Paladin healing, rivals life cleric, and far exceeds healing word. But I sense that you've made up your mind with Circle of Dreams. Perhaps something like Circle of Stars would be more to your liking?
@robertlynch1834
@robertlynch1834 2 жыл бұрын
@@enterthedungeon I am not ciritizing your opinion but I must be missing something. Bonus action isn't free. druids are notoriously bonus action heavy. They are more likely to have their action free to use a cure wounds more often then not. Not sure how this is better than a paladins healing. 1d5+1 is 4.5 on average. Paladin gets 5. Also when you use your lay hands you cure a condition or cancel a spell effect. This can't really be used to bring anyone up at high level. It's too random. You bring someone up with this at mid to high tier games and depending on different circumstances you have, they are dead. Using this over say a heal is not practicle. I would be fine as a secondary feature to a second level ability such as getting an expanded spell list as other druids get or if scaled in level with dice such as d6 to d8 and so on like other classes get or if these dice could also be used to remove conditions like lesser and greater restoration. But it's only d6+1 and at 20th level, it's only slightly more effective than a level 5 (3rd level spell) character. Looking at the numbers it's very weak. Even the bards inspiration dice increaases in potency and resets on short rest by 5. If this was like that I'd think it a bit better. 5d12 is pretty close to 10d6 resetting on short rest(dm book says 6-8 encounters per day) with 2-3 short rests, bardic inspiration style would double or triple it's usage.
@enterthedungeon
@enterthedungeon 2 жыл бұрын
@@robertlynch1834 Wait, maybe I am misunderstanding. Are you believing that you can only use one die out of your pool at a time? You can use your pool of D6s equal to half your druid level. So at level 20 you can heal 10d6 + 10 temp as a bonus action. I think another factor that adds to its power is that it isn't a spell. You cannot counterspell the healing and it doesn't draw away from your spell slots. When I played as a Circle of Dreams druid, I felt like I almost gained more spell options because I didn't need to prepare healing spells. I'd also say that some druids are bonus action heavy. Mostly, you're going to be using your bonus action for healing word, healing spirit, or the occasional Shillelagh. But Balm imo covers a lot of BA territory. So let's say at 10th level, you have a BA heal with 120ft range, where you don't need to see your target, cannot be counterspelled, heals 23 hit points on average, gives temporary hp so you can over heal, doesn't consume a spell slot, and allows you to prepare more spells innately. On face value, I think that's a powerful ability. HOWEVER, it is not the strongest Druid feature. Wildfire's features are ALL stronger. But Wildfire is the top of the tier list, it is the apex predator of Druids. Only Stars (another power creep druid) can even compare along with Moon (maybe). Thank you for your comments. You bring up a lot of great questions! Hopefully this helps. And for some players and groups, Balm just might not be good. While there is theoretical power, players also dictate the power of a subclass. If a feature isn't intuitive or the player doesn't believe in it, then I'd say that feature is by its nature less powerful than one that a player fully embraces.
