The only issue is your new eye actually looks like the eye he gives you so if you have the tifling eyes and he does this now you have one normal looking eye

After i let volo give me the new eye there was a part (no spoilers) where him being a bit annoying makes people mad again and yet again needs to be saved and i accidentally let him die and used speak to the dead on him and asked him "what did you want in life?" And bro i swear i almost cried when he said in the saddest voice ever "i just wanted to be heard" after that i took a quicksave that was 20 minutes old just to go back and save my man volo so everyone will hear how my boys eye helped me save the world

I let him take my eye and the amount of invisible creatures I've thwarted in this game because of it is absurd

The magic eye is pretty nice, it’s come in handy on a few occasions. Always hilarious when enemies try to turn themselves invisible during a fight now.

I had no idea what I was getting into with Volo. My friend and I were doing a playthrough and when he laid me down on the table and started playing with my eye. I was like "this man's is going to lobotomize me." Next dialogue answer and he pulls out an ice pick. We both start uncontrollably cackling

You rescue volo because of the magical eye, I rescue Volo because I cannot do a evil playtrought without feeling bad.

Volo gives me cicero vibes (jester from brotherhood guild in skyrim, that you also end up killing or saving from a cave).

So that's what happens.. I always refuse, I ain't getting lobotomized.

you can also get a rlly good ring from volo buy trading or stealing from him. if the healer wesrs it, anyone they heal will also receive the bless status

I stopped him from doing that because i literally thought it would kill my character and say game over.

He's such a nice guy. He goes out of his way to help with your ailment, and despite failing he doesnt just ditch you, he immediatly begs for forgiveness with a peace offering that's literally better than the original.

Volo being shady af for over 30 years

That eye single handely made fighting the shadows in act 2 so easy.

I've gotten him without trying to save him by just genociding the whole goblin camp.

This is the kind of healthcare we never knew we needed.

This game even made the goblins somewhat attractive.

he is also the only person that you can let attempt to remove it and not be royally screwed by it forever. so it's a win-win

The only time I'll let Volo operate of me is if I am role playing a completely insane malkavian-level character or if I am not roleplaying at all

You rescue him because he’s the OG bard that’s been in every Baldurs Gate.

I accidentally did all of this and being able to see invisible mobs is quite handy.

If you do this and dont let him try to operate you can have a trader in your camp who restocks gold. He only has 500 and some spell scrolls but it’s very convenient.

I came across this in my first run-through, and had no idea what to expect, but it was so ridiculous I just had to let him keep on going. I laughed my ass off the whole time and was shocked when I got an awesome item from it. My tip for BG3: MAKE BAD DECISIONS. They're often very funny.

If you visit the room where his cage is in the Goblin Camp, you can find an extremely long letter he wrote, which starts with the words "I must be brief for my life is at stake" I like him

My character was a fighter, he’s been stabbed, jabbed, bitten, beaten, smashed by ogres, hit by every spell imaginable. but man did he look like he was in a lot of pain during the operation.

You'd think the man who wrote a guide to monsters would understand Goblin humor better.

Did this on my first playthrough as a rogue, it's been extremely helpful with sneaking up on invisible would be ambushers

I personally discovered this entirely by accident as I was playing with multiplayer friendos. Ever since I watched *THE* scene in the movie White Zombie, and later reinforced by a certain moment in Dead Space 2, I am queasy and easily disturbed by anything related to eyeball trauma. I was screaming, hyperventilating the whole time as my friends encouraged me to go on. I do love my glass eye tho

Honestly I saved Volo because my bard character dunked on him hard with charisma and performance checks during his performance for gibbo and i felt terrible. It also has one of the funniest npc reactions ive seen in ages from Gibbo.

In most TTRPG incarnations his class is listed as a wizard and not a bard although lore wise he would be technically considered something else.

Volo is the truest representation of a bard. You KNOW his 'study period' consisted of pre-writing a song about how successful the surgery was, ripping a fat one, and wacking it to goblin nudes. Then out comes the ice pick.

I saved and talked to him right after the dream visitor said trying to remove the tadpole in the magic stasis would kill me so I immediately didn’t try when he was gonna surgically remove it 😅 The nice mind flayer down in the underdark only reaffirmed that feeling lol

I roleplayed a very naive character and just let volo continue. When he ripped my eye out I was like HELL NO! but then this blessing revealed and I was like HELL YEAH 😂

That eye is goated it revealed so much in act two and three like invisible chests and doors

I just found out about this recently. Permanently being able to see invisibility is suuuuper strong. Since there are so many enemies that use invisibility (especially in act 3) it's really good and saves you from needing to use scrolls, potions or spell slots.

I discovered this when I just decided to let him keep trying, out of curiosity, but I then reverted to my previous save. Given that I'd already gone around convincing everyone in camp to put _more_ tadpoles in their heads, it seemed a bit out of character to be desperate enough to have an unqualified bard remove mine with an icepick.

Didn't even know it gave a bonus, i just thought it was a horrendous idea and wanted to see how far it went. Was not disappointed!

The funniest part is that after this he tries to go invisible and run away. Since you can see him now, if you're able to keep him in your line of sight he will run back and forth gradually accelerating to ridiculous speeds until he gets somewhere you can't see him 😂

TECHNICALLY it forces the invisible one to make a saving throw every turn when you are 9 meters or closer. If they fail then they can now be seen. But yes, still very good.

As soon as I saw the pick, I thought "This man is an idiot... oh well. Let's see where this goes."

The only downside was that literally everyone in your camp disapproves of the operation. That and having your brains scrambled.

He’s more useful if you don't talk to him. You can pickpocket him every day until the end of Act 2. Free camp supplies, scrolls, potions, and tools.
