Why should you use blending modes? Well, because they are an extremely powerful tool in Procreate. Layers and blending modes can be used to add paper texture to your work, create custom filters for contrast/ color/ saturation, or even be used as a way to experiment with new styles and workflows.

I've watched loads of vids on blending modes (because few made much sense), and your explanation is about the best I've seen. Thanks! We're stuck with Procreate's strange choice of the word 'multiply', alas. It seems to mean mix/blend.

Hi, can you made a video explaining how to merge layers with blend modes on, in the middle of other layers? Or how to merge two layers with their own blend modes?

A lot of times blending modes will be disturbed when combining layers with different blending modes... The only way it will stay looking the same visually is if the bottom layer of your merge is a solid layer without a blending mode. Then, it should flatten appropriately. Sometimes you might find a workaround by exporting the image as it looks, then reimporting and using that layer as a flattened edit of your layers.
