We've received a lot of suggestions to visit Lincoln and we are so glad it was recommended because it is a lovely city! We're spending 2 days exploring places like Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle along with lots of other stops in the city. We had an amazing time seeing things like the Magna Carta, taking a boat tour of one of the oldest canals in the UK, and having great meals at places like Brown's Pie Shop. It's one of our favorite places we've visited and we think you need to visit Lincoln too!
We'd definitely love to see more of Lincolnshire and the surrounding areas. Do you have any must visit spots for next time? Also, what cathedrals are in your top 5 list? (it's very important research for Cara lol).
Check out these other English cities with magnificent cathedrals:

I live in a small town outside Lincoln and love the whole area. The Lincolnshire Wolds are worth a visit they are a series of rolling chalk hills with glorious views, you can see Lincoln cathedral from the tops. There is a breed of interesting sheep, a deer herd and an old church on one section too.

Skegness aka Skegvegas, is the most popular seaside resort around here and has many smaller coastal villages a few miles either way: ingoldmells, chapel st leonards, Sutton on sea, mabelthorpe, and not far from Skegness (ie in Friskney) is the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. Belton House is a popular stately home and country park. You may also be interested to know that Lincoln is the birthplace of the tank, popular for its ww2 Lancaster plane (one of only two in the world that still flies), and is the home of the Red Arrows aircraft display team

My daughter went to Lincoln University and the size of the city means you have everything you need and more in a small area. Her graduation was incredible, with the reception in the Castle grounds and the awards in the Cathedral, so proud and great day. Lincoln and Lincolnshire have a lot to offer.

I went to university in Lincoln and once heard it referred to as a 'poor man's York' - I always thought this was rather sad as I have nothing but good memories of the place. Granted that was over a decade ago now and it appears a lot has changed, but thanks for bringing it all back for me! I really must make the trip, as it looks like the city has had a pretty substantial revamp; it looks great!

Lincoln is a beautiful city and seems to be unfamiliar to many international tourists, unlike York and Chester. Thank you for visiting and raising its profile. If you're into military aircraft, you'll see lots of them! Not for nothing is the county known as "RAF Lincolnshire". Just outside Lincoln is the International Bomber Command Centre which is a memorial to all the bomber aircrew who flew in World War II. Many, many bombers were based in Lincolnshire. A few miles away at RAF Coningsby (which is an active military airfield) is the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with its working Spitfires, Hurricanes and one of only two airworthy Lancaster bombers in the whole world.

I'm just in the process of buying a narrowboat, and have spent a couple of months on a narrowboat before. A few things to note - the main one being that this is a very very leisurely way of life. You move at walking pace, and locks will add into your time, its also fairly physical - you have to operate locks and climb up and down ladders etc, so all in all, people generally do about 10-15 miles a day, so you don't get to see a lot of different places, and often you won't be moored up in a town at night, but if you enjoy travelling slowly and peacefully through countryside it's perfect.

Lots of towns and cities are losing their high streets to shopping centres (and the internet), but Lincoln has somehow lost its shopping centre, St Marks, and the centre is still thriving (apart from BHS and Debenhams closing).

I would certainly recommend a narrow boat holiday. I’ve don3 it several times. It’s great fun and it’s a great mix of relaxing travelling with energetic periods going through locks. If you do it in the West Midlands you will find many places where you can tie up next to a foodie pub.

If you don’t fancy having to deal with locks on the canal system, a good alternative is the Norfolk Broads. It’s a system of rivers in the east of England. The boats you can hire there aren’t narrowboats, so easier to handle, and there’s a huge variety of styles of boats. My husband and I didn’t visit The Broads until 2015 and fell in love with it so much that we have bought a share in a boat. Actually, we have an American couple who own a share and travel over every year to spend time on The Broads.

Great video almost 25 years since we took the kids t Lincoln with friends. My brother goes on canal holiday every year with his wife. They visit art galleries and .country houses along the way and even take their golf clubs with them. They go on circular trips. Do your planning and choose a route without too many locks. There are often great pubs along the canal.

Thanks for another great Vlog - we were last in Lincoln in 1977 and you have convinced us that we need to go back! Nice to see you exploring some of eastern England. Talking of the the east, is East Anglia on your list, often referred to as the 'hidden gem of England'? It has some lovely seaside towns such as Cromer, Cley, Blakeney and Southwold plus hundreds of beautiful medieval churches and of course the City of Norwich with its beautiful Cathedral. If you fancy trying out cruising, rent a boat in Wroxham and drift around the Norfolk Broads for a day stopping off at various waterside pubs - a delightful unique experience! I would put Wells in the top 5 of my favourite cathedral. Quite small but an architectural gem.

Nice of you to come to my home town, Lincoln. Everybody goes to York, but Lincoln is lovely too. The Cathedral was indeed the tallest building in the World for around 250 years, having taken the title from the Great Pyramid of Giza. If the spire had not fallen, it would have kept the title until 1884. Lincolnshire is known for its Plum Bread and Lincolnshire Sausages. It's also known as bomber county because of all the RAF bases.

Loved this video, I am from Lincolnshire and I love all the medieval architecture that has been preserved in Lincoln, not only the beautiful cathedral and adjacent castle, but up and around steep hill are many smaller preserved medieval buildings which in a bigger city may not have survived. Jews House and Aaron’s House are particularly interesting as they were houses owned by medieval Lincoln’s Jewish population, which is rare thing to see preserved. Aaron of Lincoln was one of the richest men in England during his time, the Church had to borrow money from him to build the cathedral, and other religious buildings such as monasteries, they owed him massive debts and he amassed a great personal wealth. As he was Jewish, his fortune was inherited by the king after he died. It’s so interesting to walk past his house on steep hill and know it belonged to the richest man in England.

I discovered last weekend that St Alban’s cathedral is dog friendly too. I didn’t have our dogs with me as I was singing in a choir that was covering the Saturday and Sunday services as the choir boys and girls are on their summer holiday. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to sing in such special places. Years ago we also did a weekend of services at Lincoln Cathedral. I ended up so exhausted though, as our B&B and most of the restaurants we had lunch at were at the bottom or at least part way down Steep Hill. It’s not called Steep Hill for nothing! Lol.

An interesting video and well researched. I grew up in and around Lincoln in the late 1970s and early 1980s while I was at primary and secondary school. I had a friend who rented a flat in the Deans house opposite the west front of the cathedral (where the entrance door is). It was quite surreal at night lying in the bath looking straight at the huge west front of the cathedral - all floodlit and magnificent - enjoying the fantastic view while twiddling the hot tap on an off with your toes... 😀 Lincoln is a nice city. Not too big and very relaxed. My Portuguese wife and I got married there and returned to live there for four years before coming back to Portugal. Roman artefacts and walls are everywhere in uphill Lincoln. The bottom of some walls are roman, while the tops are early English and gothic, with other eras in between. You can see 1000 years of building styles in in a 12 foot wall that had bits added time after time. I hadn't really noticed this but when in Lincoln one day and while taking a break in a quiet spot near that wall to have a sandwich, I met an American student who was backpacking around England and he pointed this out to me. I studied ecclesiastic architecture at school but Lincoln has so many of these little details that you often just walk past without noticing and it takes a visitor to bring them to your attention. The Jews House at the bottom of Steep Hill was built in 1150 and is one of the oldest domestic dwellings in England. But locals just walk past it without a second thought as they huff and puff up the hill or plod down it. Your video captured both of the first two places where I worked in the mid-80s.

It's so refreshing to hear people talk good things about places in my country. Most foreigners I have come across have a complete dislike of all things English. I have met many nationalities and most seem to hate us. It doesn't help that I've been working and living in London for 18 years now. I grew up in Lincolnshire and have fond memories as a child in the long summer holidays playing around the fields and cycling between villages. Lincoln I think is a wonderful place. Very nice video, thankyou.

i’m a foreigner and i love england. the rich and powerful history and beautiful monuments that are well preserved till this day. i’ve visited tons of cathedrals in the u.k. and towns to get feel, and never traveled outside england for holiday, just around england to soak in all its glorious beauty and will never get tired of doing so.

I have often thought of doing a day trip to Lincoln from my home in West Yorkshire. Your video has just closed the deal for me. Next days off - I'm there!

The Paschal vigil on Easter Saturday is spectacular. I have been twice. It starts at 8pm and is conducted by candlelight in its first part. It is like time traveling.

I live only 15 mins away from Lincoln (in fact, I’ll be at the Brayford later when I take my daughter and her friend to the cinema there). I love the Bailgate area and steep hill. Great for exploring. We’ve only lived here 7 years and they have developed the Cornhill area in that time. It’s so much nicer now than before! Cosy club is a good chain as chains go. Their Moroccan lamb is delicious. Narrowboats - my dad has a cruiser these days but used to own a wide bean boat, which is a big version of a narrow boat. His is on the Avon-Sharpness canal in Gloucestershire and he goes on the River Severn from there. You can easily book a narrow boat holiday in various areas of the country. Btw you can get plum bread from the co-op in Lincolnshire or Curtis’s bakery chain.

After Lincoln in Lincolnshire, there are seaside towns that are really good. Mablethorpe, chapel St leonard's, ingoldmels, and Skegness.

At 4 miles per hour on a narrowboat you would take over a year to traverse the 2,000+ miles of navigable waterways in England and Wales alone! But it is a lovely way to see A BIT of the country from the water and I would highly recommend you sample at least a week hiring a narrowboat and enjoy the wildlife and the peaceful pace of life! Your dog would probably lovevit too ❤

I lived on a narrowboat for nearly 20 years until about a year ago. It was a fabulous life for Molly, my dog, and I. I also got to work on a marina for 15 years, so I pretty well know all there is to know. I’ve toured the country from London to Lancaster a couple of times.

You should come to Norfolk and visit the Norfolk Broads. You can hire a boat to explore. Loved the Lincoln video. One of our favourite places.

Canal boats are likely the best way to see the country, the canal network is extensive and largely very attractive, it is however slow but that adds to the relaxation. The canals are a destination in themselves.
