Seeing this up close is just one reason why you should visit Monument Valley by taking the self-guided tour. We did the scenic loop drive in a sedan, which I do NOT recommend. Despite the minimal damage under the car (I got lucky) it was an incredible experience.
Monument Valley scenic loop drive is 15 miles (according to the visitors' guide map) and you are on an unpaved dirt/gravel road beginning on the north end of the visitors' lot. You will start on a two-way road then take the one-way loop around the massive Rain God Mesa.
The entire drive takes 1.5 to 2 hours but we took our time, marveling at the beautiful sandstone monuments, and finished it in 3 hours.
Come with us on this drive as I candidly share the experience, pointing out the individual monuments (numbered according to the map you receive at the gate).
We were there in early May 2022 in the afternoon. The winds were pretty fierce so be careful when getting in and out of your vehicle and if you decide to walk across the John Ford Point. (In the thumbnail you can see how I had to sit down at one point). Afterward, we headed to Forrest Gump Point and got a breathtaking late sunset view of Monument Valley!

There are 11 Monuments to see. I did not capture #9 and #10 on this journey but I will link another video here from the @throughmylens channel to view Code Talkers Outpost and North Window - go to the 6:57 min mark: • Monument Valley 17 Mil...

This is my candid capture of this fun experience in the whipping dust winds and hot sun! What is your favorite monument on this scenic loop? I am pasting another video here from @throughmylens that captures #9 and #10 which I missed on this tour. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n62pi8eHsMDYf2w.html
